Before this Keaton was known for roles like "Mr. Mom". Nobody really gave him credit for being able to act. So when he was announced as playing Batman, everyone was really skeptical. And then this movie came out. He so owned the role. I love when he describes his qualifications.
It wasn't that no one thought he could act, it is that he was thought of as a comedian and not an action star. Same thing with Bruce Willis, he started out as a comedian and it was jarring seeing him in action roles, but over time that is what he became most known for.
I really love how his career has developed over time. I first saw him in the comedy Night Shift, his breakout role. Then he eventually became Batman, convincingly so. But one of my favorite performances of his is in the 2015 Best Picture Oscar winning Spotlight, where he is the leader of a team of investigative journalists. He completely disappears into that role.
"It's Showtime!" Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) owned this role and the thing I always forget is how little he's in the movie. What scenes he does have he dominates. Also, the main thing is that the movie makes you smile, laugh and no matter how crazy everything gets, you always feel sympathy for Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis), the married couple and Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder).
Most spiders, when falling to fast, will release some strands of silk that increase surface tension and slow their fall. I'm sure the little bugger was fine :) Also, the Beetlejuice cartoon from the 90s was amazing.
Indeed, the spider is fine. They release themselves from trees & fly in the wind all the time. Spiders are seen on weather balloons @ 17,000ft. We die above 10,000ft from lack of oxygen. We're far weaker & more fragile than they are, we kid ourselves & think the reverse, only because we're bigger.
I love the waiting room in the afterlife. The costumes are so imaginative and unique to each dead person. Beetlejuice changed Otho’s clothes into a tacky leisure suit, which was once popular, and signifies bad fashion.
I love when Delia tells Beetlejuice she wants to get into the dead world, and he gives the simplest yet most sincere response he gives in the entire movie, "...why?" its the only time he isn't being a showy character, he's genuinely caught off guard and expands his character just that little bit.

That’s because the movie came out before but i have no idea why they decided to make them friends in the cartoons. I’m also an 80s baby but i don’t think i watched the animated version that i recall but maybe they made them friends because girls like Wyona rider’s character tend to like jokers like Michael Keaton character in real life. The movie came first, then the animated series came and was loosely based on it. For the show they couldn't have the title character be a gross, perverted, womanizing, groping, psychopath palling around with an underage schoolgirl (in the movie I think she was supposed to be 15, but in the show she was supposed to be like 12-13). So, for the show they kept the ostentatious personality, dialed down the gross out factor, and got rid of the CP traits entirely, making him into a gross, but lovable jerk, and NOT the creepy jailbird of the movie. They also couldn't use the Maitlands, because they were kind of boring compared to the rest of the characters, and they already had the Deetz parents to fill the parental roles (nuclear family mania at the time) making the Maitlands redundant.
14:04 Prince Valium is actually a reference to the movie Spaceballs as well as a fun joke. The actor who plays the dad in this movie also played the principal in ferris bueller's day off and is a criminal and the worst kind of criminal he is a sex offender who is like Jared from subway going after children and has been charged a few times.
The music that you commented about was created by the brilliant Danny Elfman! He wrote the theme song to the "Simpsons" as well as about 100 other great films such as "Nightmare Before Christmas" & "Edward Scissorhands". He tends to focus on "goth themed" movies. Thanks for another great reaction.

my cousins' first full sentence spoken was "nice fuckin' material." we all (my 2 brothers and his 2 sisters) found this hilarious, as we were all between 5-10 years older than he. we had taped the movie when it came out on HBO back in the day, and we wore out that tape. we all must have watched it 100 times, easily. multiple times a day at some points.
Remember watching the VHS so much I literally wore out the tape 😂 was like trying to watch a movie in a snow globe. Felt weird when we finally got the DVD lol
Love this movie... such a classic! Michael Keaton said that playing Beetlejuice is one of his favorite roles in his career which just makes this even 10x better. You guys are great, love watching your reactions!!
When I was a kid my dads friend lives in the house across the street where they filmed this and we went over and ran around. I think I was about 10. We still have all the rocks and other shit we took from the set. It’s pretty cool to think back when I watch this now
I am so glad you guys love this movie so much, and Edward Scissorhands. Two of my all-time favorite movies. I adore Tim Burton's mind and the way he expresses it.
If they ever ever EVER put it up on streaming somewhere, you guys would like Beetlejuice: The Musical. I saw it twice on Broadway before it closed and went on tour last year. Beetlejuice is in it WAY more and the songs are banging.
Agree with everything you guys said, but I'll add that Tim Burton's style is heavily inspired by German expressionism, like The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.... and I think they've already finished filming the sequel! Can't wait to see what that's like.
Yeah, they did mention that they recognised him from that movie, with one of them saying ‘I love him’.. just hope they were talking about the characters he was playing and not the actor himself, Jeffery Jones, who is now a registered sex offender for trying to pay a 14 year old to pose nude in a cowboy hat as well as having pictures of kids
Love this movie. I was Beetlejuice for Halloween last year and I was finally able to go see the musical this summer. One of the best highlights of my year

It's really a story about this dead couple trying to defend their house. Beetlejuice is so extreme that I would get sick of him if he was on too much more. He is the seasoning in the movie.
I remember when I was little, back in fuckin' 1992, there used to be a Beetlejuice action figure (With Real Spinning Head). Legit just rotated when you turned a dial in his back. God, that was a fun time to be a kid.
Abstract art (I think you mean as modern art would be like Andy Warhol with his Marilyn Monroe pictures) is not my favorite either, but the theory behind it is that different people project their own interpretation onto it/it's meaning. As a teacher (not of art, just regular), I can tell you in learning theory, we all use our past experiences to project meaning onto everything. In other words, the "point" abstract artists are trying to make, we all already do all the time to all other art. Traditional artists can be cr*p at their art as can abstract artists.
The modern art rant was rough guys. I used to feel the same way until I had to study it in school and learned that if a piece of art evokes any kind of emotion, even if it's anger or disgust, then it's done its job. Delia's art is purposefully supposed to be terrible because she's kind of terrible.
I'm writing that my name is Josh and i've been reading online that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will have an official 4K HD digital release on Tuesday October 8, 2024. the digital release will also include special features including a second version of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with an audio commentary by Tim Burton. that means that everybody at home can do first time watching videos for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice beginning on Tuesday October 8, 2024. I can confirm that there won't be deleted and extended scenes included the 4K Bluray and DVD release on Tuesday November 19, 2024. that might be the exact same day the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice becomes available to stream on MAX.
Could you imagine if you lived in a haunted house and the Ghosts wakes you up all hours of the night forcing you to do a musical and all throughout the day lmfao.
So glad you have chose this, love Juno I,m not your coach he survived.Yes they are making Beetlejuice 2 so gutted that Tim Burton was here in Blackpool and I have missed him.Happy Halloween.
2:25 I'm almost a year late... but insects like spiders could fall out of a plane and land safely... if they didn't freeze to death cause of the altitude and windchill. At a certain point, animals get so small they're immune to fall damage cause terminal velocity for them is 5 feet.
You guys would have SO much fun watching Gina Davis in Cutthroat Island. She the daughter of a pirate and a pirate herself. It’s a fun adventure a little campy at times but really fun, great action.
The balance of gravity, atmosphere, and the surface area to volume ratio. Makes it so that any animal smaller than a cat can fall from any height and survive the impact. Animals smaller than rats will not break bones. Spiders will not bruise. The bigger they are the harder they fall.
The thing with Otho wasn't that the outfit was blue, its the fact that it was polyester. Otho was all about style, so to put him in such a cheap outfit was a nightmare for him.

Well, it’s originally a takeoff on Prince Valiant, an old timey cartoon strip about a medieval prince.

that tapir onesie with the chest hair kills me LOL. Where do you even begin to find a tapir onesie smh Hahha
I remember when I was little, back in fuckin' 1992, there used to be a Beetlejuice action figure (With Real Spinning Head). Legit just rotated when you turned a dial in his back. God, that was a fun time to be a kid.
Love your reaction to this classic! You may wanna switch the 1998 in your title to 1988 tho lol
Nice, this is one of my all time favs.
When I was a kid I had a ton of the Beetlejuice toys from this movie and I LOVED the cartoon.
They’re reacting as if what they’re seeing is real. 😂
This is by far my favorite Michael Keaton role.
“NICE FUCKING MODEL!”
HONK HONK
Honk honk!
Michael Keaton did such a great job for only appearing 17 minutes in this movie.
"Oh that's kinda cool. They did die!" 😂
(I know that's not what you meant, but still funny)
love your guys energy man, keep doing what your doing. Because in some way or another your saving someone's life :)
Battlejuice 2 is in pre-production. :)
The mother is the great Catherine O'Hara. She and Jim's dad from American Pie worked together for years. They recently started in Schitt's Creek.
Guys, Beetlejuice is from 1988, not 1998. Great video as always. Greetings from Argentina.
If you guys liked this movie you guys should really see the Beetlejuice cartoons. They're twice as funny!
They just finished filming Beetlejuice 2!!
One of the greatest movies ever. Thanks for tackling this one, love your channel guys.
The balance of gravity, atmosphere, and the surface area to volume ratio. Makes it so that any animal smaller than a cat can fall from any height and survive the impact. Animals smaller than rats will not break bones. Spiders will not bruise.
The bigger they are the harder they fall.
they are currently filiming a number 2 after all these years, with todays tech it will be epic., the double scream during the kiss was great lol
I can’t believe I barely just realized that the girl, who played as Lydia now played in stranger things as Joyce
