      @@CannedFishFiles at first I couldn't help myself and mock you and others for eating with antiquated chopsticks. Now after much reflection I feel that perhaps I'm doing a disservice to the life of the sprats by spearing them with four fork prongs. Perhaps I can honor the life of each Sprat by gently lifting it from its oil bath to my mouth with chopsticks owned by the comedian Buddy Hackett - or Paul Reubens? No doubt those will become available on eBay, it's just a matter of time.

    My favourite sardines are the tiny 'Sole Mare' wild brisling sardines, wood smoked with chilli: 120g for $3.50 Australian. I tip two cans on on a plate add a few drops of soy and a small side of sllced red onion soaked in lemon juice. I eat them whole, dipping fresh baguette chunks in the olive oil and sipping a nice Sauvignon Blanc. A true gourmet meal and so simple! Enjoy, David in Sydney.

    Quality video right there. Top production and music effects. I have to say I pretty much grew up on these small sardines as these are common in the adriatic sea. Different Croatian canneries have those with different recipes. Here they call them ‘delicatess sardines’. Either way they are nice for beginners, because skins, scales and bones are not really noticeable and the taste is quite nice and soft. They just melt in your mouth.💫

    One of my first experiences with sardines were the small "tiny tots" by KO I think, yes I know now since the ones I had recently were KO's! Brislings!! Nice! I had taken them with me back packing in Nor Cal when I was a much younger dude in the 1970's. We went to fish; so if skunked I still had some fish to eat,.... survival food, tasted damn good at 9,000 feet, like everything else does (even Ramen) in the mountains, camping,.... especially the fresh caught brook trout!! Yes, I'll try these too, like all your other canned fish recommendations with the possible exclusion of the geoducks!! And, as you so often say: "What are we even doing here?" Right,......and I don't think the answer is "42"!! ....So: "so long, and thanks for all the fish"...... (ideas to eat that is) LOL :D

    • @CannedFishFiles
      @CannedFishFiles  3 года назад +4

      Yeah, throw em in with the noodles is what I do some of the time. The salad works good with sardines in olive oil because, you know, the olive oil just becomes part of the salad dressing.

    • @ronschlorff7089
      @ronschlorff7089 3 года назад +1

      I just had some of my sardine pate on crackers for luncheon!! I like to eat the smaller deans whole from the can (Matt, the chop sticks work best for these, all really, genius idea!!) but I use some of the bigger ones for some kinda "Franken-dish"!! I put deans in a small food processor, some butter or olive oil ( you want it to sort of solidify into a pate in the fridge rather than be too pasty) and extras like olives, pickles, some mustard, spices etc. but not too soupy, then whiz it up into a pate or mousse (there's a visual for you all: a sardine moose (little bitty antlers, and all, on a tiny fishy). The sky's the limit for this sort of thing. Any way you like them; enjoy!! :D

    In Spain we have sardines (sardina pilchardus) and sardinilla, the small one. Sometimes the high end producers like this or the mentioned Ramon Peña use, or used in the past the baby sardina pilchardus, while the regular supermarket brands use the alacha (sardinella aurita). I have a can of Ramon Peña fron 2015 that said Sardinilla and below was written "sardina pilchardus". The can I got last month was the same except the "sardina pilchardus " has dissapeared. You know, according to law there is a minimun size for sardina pilchardus and these little fish obviously are under that minimun size, so maybe they have changed to the alacha fish to sell as sardinilla. Anyway, this is something I want to ask to the producers because there is some misunderstunding when it comes to the sardine and sardinilla names and when it's one species of fish or other. To carry more questions, there is a lot of studies in Spain that show that sometimes the producers sell one kind of fish and inside the can there's another fish. I hope I've give you some light and bring you more questions! Cheers.
    By the way, the fish do not come from Mediterranean sea, they are from Cantabric sea, the Atlantic ocean in the north of Spain from Galicia to Vasque Country (probably from the Galician part)

    What type of sardine can do you find more convenient to open?..the traditional one or the one with the pull tab located in the corner.

    • @CannedFishFiles
      @CannedFishFiles  3 года назад +1

      I think the corner ones are easier, right? Have you seen the ones with gold foil? Real easy.

    • @izidorsuc
      @izidorsuc 3 года назад +2

      I find the round ones (usually tuna) the easiest to open with a pull tab since the cover end gets smaller. Regular sardine cans are easier with a straight pull tab, but tragic events can still happen.
      The hardest to open and not to spill something are long cans (herring and sometimes mackerel cans).
      With that said the shape of the can and how much it’s filled is the deciding factor and not location of the pull tab.

    • @WolfMushroom369
      @WolfMushroom369 3 года назад

      @@CannedFishFiles Yes exactly, I find the ones with the pull tab in the corner more convenient to open. Thank you for answering my question, I thought it was only me that find this odd

    • @WolfMushroom369
      @WolfMushroom369 3 года назад

      @@izidorsuc I had such tragedies my self, several times the pull tab failed and I have to open the cans with a knife or my bare fingers if I don't have anything around.

    • @CannedFishFiles
      @CannedFishFiles  3 года назад

      @@izidorsuc Yeah now that you mention it, I think round should be easiest. Because the upward force is acting on the greatest portion of the can's circumference at any moment.

    Ok, I watched at half speed given at the end of the last video you mentioned it, and given your style I was banking on a hidden message in the following video given the intro. Then you end mentioning "if this video was your speed"...so I was even more convinced something was up. But that might be the legal weed talking. Either way funny stuff at half speed. Fits your cadence.

    Are they better than the Nuri sardines from Portugal?

    • @CannedFishFiles
      @CannedFishFiles  3 года назад +1

      I've only had the Nuri sardines that are quite large, only fitting 3/5 to a tin. So not really a fair comparison to these small sardines. In my experience so far, I would put these up against any similar fish.
