One of best rock song in rock in roll history...
Acdc?
you are completely correct, I know I got to see the boys over several years, they were the very best
Not one of the best Thee Best. Saw them 3 times. They were amazing. Hope to see them in Townsville
a few years ago but they pulled out at the last minute.

Still listening to Thin Lizzy in 2021 !

*The boys will always come back*
One of the most under appreciated songs of all time.
The thing I loved about Lizzy, other than their great musicianship, was that the lyrics were crystal clear and there's no ambiguity about what he's saying. That's unusual for a rock band...
He knew his lyrics were GOOD.
I don't know what rock bands are you talking about, probably not the ones I'm listening to but, yeah, Phil's lyricism is way above everyone else in rock 'n' roll.
You can hear their hits in a row... from how many bands you can say that?
If you think that's unusual you're deaf.
@@exxie1 what about Bon Scott and Downpayment blues
The best lyrics of all time. Rip Phil Lynott
And Gary Moore R.I.P.
00:28 it's chord changes like that that creates a certain tension which pretty much devides the average songs from the great ones, very smart and musical. +In Thin Lizzy's case the dual guitar solos are a similar factor as well, those 2 qualities are what made them one of the greats.
now every song had those kinds of chord changes. kinda sad how overused it is now
The singer-songwriter on the bass is a genious - I didn't need the two guys with "good hair" IMHO
the song has one jazz-fusion verse, and an hard rock verse with 3 sharp chord changes. The studio version is a bit sedated, late live version are explosive.
@@nugraha7463not really I don't hear stuff like this at all anymore. No one is experimentative with sound they just use the same chords from canon in d
@@nugraha7463 I don't think so. It's borrowed from jazz, it's really rare to hear chords like that in pop/rock anymore. Modern music is dead boring, basic chord progressions, autotune and shitty rapping
Saw Lizzy a few times in the early 80's...a fantastic live band. RIP Phil.
The Boys Are Back In Town, My 6 brothers and I were very lucky to get to see Thin Lizzy play live gigs and concerts all over the lands from the early day up to the end, they were the best rocking band, they had class, style, lead by a master wordsmith, poet, historian and total rocked, each and every man in this band, total master musicians. The boys never left my town, I can easily recall each and every one of the Thin Lizzy gigs that we attended as young men, now a little older, the music and memories still remains the same quality, I still miss Phil & Gary
One of the best songs I heard in Arnhem, the Netherlands. I am Irish and my son and daughter were born in Arnhem. I hoped that 'The boys are back in town' a wonderful tribute to Thin Lizzy was played there, would be played there again. Irish rock is the best and our beloved Phil song that.
Indeed this song is truly an amazing song, Thin Lizzy is such a talented artist and this is one of my best song of her. Can we be friends hope you don't mind ?
This song gives me shivers in a positive way after so many years.
This song is definitely top 5 for life.
But they have so much GOOD songs.
this is my favourite song about the boys being back in town
i believe its about Jimmy the weed and the quality street firm coming back from where ever and asking the landlords son at the Whalley pub about the whereabouts of his mum
At precisely this time, the best band on planet earth
fully, totally, completely agree with you, I know that is true because with my 6 brothers we got to see the greatest rocking band of all time play live many times but not enough times. Phil and Thin Lizzy music and stories will last forevermore
one of the best rock songs of all time rip phil

RIP Phil, a true LEGEND that was too good, too talented and just too god like to be down here on Earth. Instead, he keeps the music in heaven banging! I just listened to Jeff Wayne's War Of The World's and Phil is just SO bloody good as the preacher. What an incredible voice he had, both singing and speaking. His portrayal of a shell-shocked preacher shows just how incredibly multi talented Phil truly was. That's real acting, a very, very convincing portrayal that really stands out as the best on that incredible album. He might not have lived very long (poor guy was only 36 when he passed, truly heartbreaking) but those years he lived left such an indelible mark on British music, with him still influencing untold numbers of musicians around the world!
🎶 Very well stated sir. 🎵
🤔 _BTW I have always felt that he influenced Prince greatly with his LOOK during Prince's Purple Rain, reign... The hair style is a dead ringer!_ #JustSayin 🤷🏽♂️
*Cheers from **#CancúnMéxico* 🍻🤘🏽🥁🎤🇲🇽
16 here, and my dad introduced me to ‘whiskey in the jar.’ I really liked it so I started listening to all their other songs and I was actually surprised when I found out that they made this song too as I’ve heard it on a commercial.
Now I’m literally obsessed with them and can’t stop listening to all of their songs!
My favourites are mostly ‘whiskey in the jar’, ‘it’s only money’ and ‘jailbreak,’ and they’re probably in my most favourite top 10 songs of all time so far.
I wish more young people like me would learn more about these underrated(?) bands and how much talent they had compared to now (no shade lol)!
Good thing Bands like queen and Beatles are being more recognised among the younger generations though, and I hope it stays like that.
Anyways, Thin Lizzy is awesome!!
You do know Whiskey in a Jar isn't theirs though? it is an old Irish folk song. Personally think Metallica does it the best.
@@garrymcdonald5456 I know. I've heard The Dubliners one as-well as Metallica's, but I prefer Thin Lizzy's version over anything else!
15 here and I wish more people around our age would listen to stuff like this
I agree
@@garrymcdonald5456 I am a "Metallica" guy, but once I got the change to hear Lizzy's version, I fell in love with that one. I also dislike all the Garage Inc video clips, lol.

I remember a time about 1980/81. Several of our family had come to celebrate Christmas with our mam in Birmingham. I was living in Manchester with a brother, 2 came down from Preston & 1 was in Brum. We made a fine sight striding through the village where we were known. This song was going through my head , when we were recognised, I just said 'The boys are back in town'.
Such great song, lyrics, guitar solos , everything!!!
1969! Timeless!
Edit: 1976, but still timeless!

@@freewheelman68 OK fair enough, I misread the description, still before my time (90's) but yet somehow it feels like it wasn't! :-)
Love Phils voice & the guts in this song.
If only he were still here.
Imagine what he may have done with Thin Lizzy ...
RIP Phil Lynott (August 20, 1949 - January 4, 1986), aged 36
You will be remembered as a legend.
the ultimate rock song played by the ultimate rock band, RIP Phil
What a belter Phil Lynott is!!!! Came from Crumlin in Dublin like my Dad too!! He is tons more talented that my old man though. The Charisma is electric.

Best line up ever, Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson and Brian Downey.. class!
Such great song, lyrics, guitar solos , everything!!!
Grande Philip Lynott 🖤
Another great rock song. Saw them in 1980 at Bingley Hall with my friend and had a great night. Wish I had Scott Gorham`s hair.
I've seen Thin Lizzy, wow loads of times but sadly, I just missed Mr. Lynott. As he played in Chester, that is in England a place called Quaintways. A friend of mine Terry saw them several times and got on with Phil Lynott. So on these occasions, sat at the bar drinking Guiness with Mr. Lynott and talking about music, his very own words ' What a genuinley great bloke, we talked about music and bands until he had to go on' Maybe it's because of the Celtic connection as we both have rellies in Eire. Don't now. But what I've been told by a friend, Phil Lynott was a real top bloke. Sadly taken away from us, Keep on Rockin'.
When the X-Men join the MCU, they better play this song in the trailer.
Yea
One of the best sounding Gipson ever!
Brilliant song Brilliant voice
This music only gets better with age.
the smile of the daces tell how amazing that decade was
This was pure class.

Lyrics
Guess who just got back today
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed that much to say
But man, I still think them cats are crazy
They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
Told 'em you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town again)
You know that chick that used to dance a lot
Every night she'd be on the floor, shakin' what she got
When I say she was cool she was red hot
I mean, she was steamin'
And that time over at Johnny's place,
Well, this chick got up and she slapped Johnny's face
Man, we just fell about the place
If that chick don't want to know, forget her
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town again)
Spread the word around
Guess who's back in town
Just spread the word around
Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's Bar 'n' Grill
The drink will flow and the blood will spill
And if the boys want to fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting warmer, it won't be long
Won't be long till the summer comes
Now that the boys are here again
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town)
Spread the word around
The boys are back in town
(The boys are back in town again)
The boys are back in town again
Been hangin' down at Dino's
The boys are back in town again
With lyrics tense with a Springsteen-ish drama and multiple hooks - the legendary riff, the fist-punching chorus, the twin guitar solo from Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham to the chorus -fe with the smell of summer lawns and the memories of beach parties. No wonder the track was co-opted by Irish rugby teams, jeans companies and Bon Jovi.
Thin Lizzy is so great!
Lovely tune, one of those underrated song
One of the greatest songs ever.
What a legend of rock and roll shoutout from Australia rest in peace Philip
Thin Lizzy best band of all time. No argue
classy. i share this online everytime i am back in town.
I saw them live. The sound is permanently in my brain. Such dynamism 😊
This guy was so cool. The king of cool.
What a memorable song from an old soul
I was driving out on a job for work and then Philo came on the radio, vol up KPH became whatever. Man it made my day better.
As well as the legend Phil Lynott, John Sykes and Scott Gorham are one of the world's best guitarists and knew exactly how to put on an epic show..
Don't forget Brian Robertson and Gary Moore, as well as Eric Bell. Thin Lizzy always had that reputation for great guitarists.
Class tune

Que fera ...!!...!!
The thing I like is that is such a pure 'ol Irish song. (Boyz, Bar 'n Grill, Back in Town, Downtown, ) touching all the corner stones of Irish folklore and British history!
Those were still real artists.
Real guitar virtuosos, where nothing was artificial or generated via computer.
The guys were gods with their guitars.
I was allowed to experience that. Thank God!!!!
One of my favourite gaming memories is causing pure havoc with this on repeat on saints row 4 with the mixtape on my character flying around the map
