    Lyrics:
    Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired, she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
    Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
    He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house it has a crowd
    There's always something happening
    And it's usually quite loud
    Our mum, she's so house-proud
    Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, in the middle of our street
    Our house (Something tells you)
(That you've got to move away from it) In the middle of our
Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss (Ah, ah, ah, ah)
She's the one they're going to miss
    In lots of ways
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
    I remember way back then
When everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time
Such a fine time, such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play
    Simply waste the day away
Then we'd say nothing would come between us
    Two dreamers
    Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
    Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
    He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street

One of those records that will always raise a smile. The fact the world can never throw up another Madness just shows how sterile we've become.

The U.K. is so privileged with some of the best music in the world and Madness just hugely emphasis this fact.
I first liked this song when I heard it play on Not going out on BBC, with lee Mack 😂

Bad teeth, worse weather, sausage of unknown origin, sunday roast, British leyland, tea and scones, punks, sewage pipes on the outside of the wall, Rik Mayall, Madness.. Yup, got my dose of englishness.

Not English or someone English who wants to be ...other... and is apologising? I love being English...and I love the way the NHS has cared for us during lockdown....without charging terrified, seriously ill people a single penny... My friend's brother spent 4 months in ICU with Covid and is home and recovering. His treatment didn't cost him anything because, in England, the land of Sunday roasts; scones and Madness, we look after each other. As for the rest...why bother commenting...just rude and ridiculous. You should feel ashamed of yourself for posting your comment which is offensive to all of us in England who have lost someone during the past few months. Grow up and stop showing off.

Those of us who live in the 80s, this music is not just music. This is the religion of the 80's. One can go to the past with a single click. All the memories come back in the first second of music. God created at 80. Sacred those who live that time. Listening to this music, I'm a teenager now. I am 55 years old.

I'm 57 and I was at boarding school and Madness were a huge part of the music of the times for us. We were all cast-offs from local councils. Music was our way to survive.

This song is honestly so wholesome, I love it! The only sliver of irony in the lyrics, is the acknowledgment that the house you grew up in won't always be there for you, which only adds to the sentiment of the song. It's nothing cynical, very sweet!
