I have a question and possible solution to the 4K dilemma most people have with this setup, could you use an HDMI splitter with one input and two outputs that output the same video at the same time and have one go into your tv and one going into the capture card? That way the capture card is still receiving the video data and the tv would still get full quality, there would just be no output cable from the capture card to the tv, it would go from the splitter to the tv, would this work?
I'm currently making a DIY Plex voice integrated "smart screen" Aperture Radio alarm clock. I'm using this exact method to output 1080p, but the idea should work just as well with 4k. It's pretty hard finding a 4k splitter to fit into the form factor, but doable. If anyone would be interested in a tutorial, let me know and I'll speed up production.
