    The biggest issue I am facing is finding an affordable capture card that supports CEC passthrough. Nothing I've seen supports this feature, so get ready to revert to using 2 remote controls again for your TV. If not having CEC is a deal breaker you may as well go get a Phillips hue HDMI sync box for the cost of what you end up spending on all these extra peripherals. All sounds and looks great in theory but the cost savings forequivalent features using Hyperion and raspberry pi seems negligible to me.

    • @KPeyanski

    Great video! I don't seem to have a "Jumper wire" - are these something needed separately? For now I've just wrapped it around GPIO Pin 18 instead. Nothing seems to be happening when i plug it all in, though.
    EDIT: Run Hyperion as root to solve some of the problems. I have lights but all it does is flash random colours very fast across the first half of the strip. It doesn't seem to matter what effect I activate, I get a chaotic flashing of all different colours that seems to be working its way up the strip further each time it starts again but never makes the end.Three random LEDs are always on in the middle of the strip. One red, one blue, one green.
    Edit 2: After significant trial and error, I've managed to make the back half of the LEDs light up a constant green, and the rest are still flashing manicly. This is still the effect no matter what I do. Not sure how I made it go green given that I asked it to strobe red.

      @@KPeyanski I am sorry, my question wasn't clear, I understand the LEDs and Pi will require an external power supply. I was more thinking about using the video signal to feed the Pi to take advantage of the TV applications (most of what I watch) and not just the external video sources (only DVD player in my case). I have seen this might be possible on "5 great uses of your TV's USB port by Dignited": "The USB port on the TV also allows you to connect accessories to beautify the TV and its surrounding environment and enhance the user’s viewing experience. Also, 8K TVs from manufacturers such as Samsung (this is what I have) and LG have a sports ambient light function, and you can also purchase third-party TV lights that can be connected to the TV via a USB port".
      Thank you for your response and your excellent videos.

      Not sure about that. Probably there is some way to configure everything upfront, but don’t know how to do that exactly.

      If you have Home Assistant you can add the Hyperion from the configuration > Integrations and it will be available as a switch. Then you can create a simple Home Assistant automation for that. Maybe I should do a video in the future about this topic ;-)

    Shouldn't raspberry be tied up with hdmi?

    • @KPeyanski
      @KPeyanski  3 года назад +1

      No, the Raspberry should be connected to the HDMI capture card via usb cable. Exactly as shown in the video and in my written article - peyanski.com/tv-ambient-light-with-raspberry-pi-and-hyperion/#Attach_the_LED_strip_on_the_TV

    Hello, I can't make it work, the settings are fine. I did it as it appears in your video. The LEDs do not change color according to the video. If you want to send you a video to tell me what I'm doing wrong, thank you for your attention.

    • @KPeyanski

      Is that mean that your LEDs are showing the boot effect, but they are not in sync with the TV image afterwards? If so double check your Hyperion settings or try with another HDMI capturing card.

      that means you have connected the led strip and PSU correctly, double check the HDMI capture, and if the the RPI GPIO 18 connection is correct

      @@KPeyanski The problem was, it didn't saved my settings (default settings is 1led on top) . But still it doesn't work through the hdmi grabber with loop which gives no signal to the raspberry. If my play with settings won't work, I will buy a splitter and grabber as a separate devices.

      @@KPeyanski Unfortunately, I can't make it work. The LEDs are all ok, the idle effects works, but the HDMI grabber isn't detected. In the capture settings, I have only "bcm2835-isp-capture" to select. Now I used hdmi to av and av to usb but still wrong. The only thing I missed from video was adding a SSH.

      @@DudasDudek In the capture settings you need to select "camera 1". If this option does not show up, make sure you have the capture device is powered up before starting the Pi which needs to find a connected device.
