      Most of these AAA studios seem to be in a phase of trying to maximise shareholder value (i.e. pump their share price) by monetizing their beloved franchises as cheaply as possibly. They've recognised that us idiots keep buying and even pre-ordering regardless of how poor the end product is, as long as it has "Diablo" or "Command & Conquer" in the title.

      Command and Conquer died when EA pushed out CnC4 in 2010 or so. The spirit of CnC only ever remained alive through the any of the old greats that any given person would play and the fairly continued backing of most notably CnC3KW and RA3.

    • @Ianbus123
      @Ianbus123  Год назад +1

      I like the idea of "playing frontline" that's kinda funny where one person on each team tends to be nearest the enemy and has to deal with all the stuff that gets thrown at them :)
      The economy side really takes some practice...

    • @FiltyIncognito
      @FiltyIncognito Год назад +1

      @@Ianbus123 Aye, it's a neat division of labor. Especially when they actively collaborate as a team, giving units, buildings and resources to benefit the team as a whole.
      There's this really small map with practically no natural resources, so if a team wants to get anywhere it needs to divide tasks and resources strictly, with some players selflessly just making units for the frontliners. In turn the frontliners can't waste them at all, and have to put their micro skills on full display.
      lol yeah the economy side of things definitely ain't a pick-up-and-go kinda thing. Gotta figure out build orders. Helps to watch some of the better players do their thing. But anyway it's a good thing. It means that experience, skills and smarts will count. It gives you an active, evolving task that makes for some good player retention.

    TA was awesome, I wore the disc out. I spent days downloading 1mb units on the old dial up internet. Then Supreme Commander came out, which i loved also and the expansion. Nothing more satisfying than unleashing the experimental units and flattening everything. Homeworld 2 also, absolutely incredible longevity and beautiful to watch, especially with the Beghins Complex MOD. I really hope HW3 continues the legacy.

  • @barnmaddo
    @barnmaddo Год назад +9

    IMO one of HW2's worst features was how the game increased the difficulty based on how well you did on the previous level. It was just not fun or immersive gameplay. Turned into a slog and forced you to adopt some really anti-immersion tactics. Like not building up your fleet until after a mission starts (to avoid triggering an extreme difficulty level), or relying heavily on cheesing the AI just to survive the difficult battles.

    • @Ianbus123

    6:50 regarding Beyond all reason.
    I'm spotting at LEAST two turrets that are straight up ported over from Total Annihilation.
    Am happy that people still love good old TA though, especially with how it seems like Supreme Commander has been dying off while Planetary Annihilation just kinda... doesn't scratch the same itch? Don't get me wrong, I'm curious on the new Factory/Grand-RTS hybrid game they've got brewing now, but I do still miss the good old Total Annihilation days where my dad would spam out those annoying as heck gunships and just murder all my poor artillery.

    • @Ianbus123
      @Ianbus123  Год назад +3

      It is a "fork" of the Spring Engine by my understanding, which started life as an attempt to port TA to more modern technology, so there will be a lot of examples like that. They are (slowly) trying to branch out on their own though :)
      Haha, I used to play against my dad 1v1 using a network cable hanging out the window. I would fire nukes then run up the stairs to see his base get blown to bits from his perspective! Good times and a legendary game, especially at the time it released. It's hard to get people to understand its significance nowdays. A bit like The Matrix after every B-rate action move copied it for the last 20 years. At the time it was mindblowing

    I been playing Age of Cores since Beta I am the longest running player out side the developer 😅. I have to say, Tom is an amazing developer, he only wants people to enjoy a game and have fun. He ask everyone regularly if we found bugs or what we would like to see added to the game. Ive played other games hes been part of developing and he truely is on top of issues and is active in the game with other players. He encourages us to be vocal if we have ideas for the game. Its amazing when you send in a ticket saying hey i think this would be better if it was a certain way. Then couple days later you see your ideas been implemented in the game. You never find games where they make you feel important or fix bugs fast as he does.
    Ill be honest i started the game with the mentality im just going to check it out give some advice and here i am over a year later still daily playing and helping find issues and give ideas. I never intended to play this game more then just a few times. Ive seen it grow from an idea to something i can spend more then half the day playing on. I totally addicted to it.
    From building stations across the galaxy to building my motherships stats and fleet, or making things interesting and playing with so many mission modifiers you could never replicate a match 2 times. Even more so now that modifiers are found in missions allowing you up to 3 additional per match. You can choose to pve or pvp. Soon there will be options for clan wars and team pvp.
    This game is truely taking off and nows the time to join in. Be part of the ideas to generate content and watch how it evolves into your own individual play style. I see great things for this game. I cant wait to see what time will bring to it.
    If anyone needs help in game find me in the community chat my screen names XtremeEvolution ill happily help out. Hope you all enjoy it much as I do.

      If I can get in to some of them early (such as closed alphas/betas) then I would probably do full videos focusing on individual small games. Would love someone to bring back Starships Unlimited 3 and start modding it up.

      That's a game I haven't thought about in a while! I wonder what the dev team (Basically Andrew) are up to nowdays. I can't get the ApeZone website to load.

    The best RTS games are StarCraft like, Homeworld Like, and the old CnC like not the new once.

      There is a lot of room for innovating the genre though I think? We haven't explored story-driven RTS much.
