How on earth are you teaching this for free? Especially in this world everyone seems to charge for smile, We really don’t need another angel other than you
She has a heart of gold💛 I can't even afford one of these instruments, let alone lessons. Once I'm able to get a hand pan, I will be forever grateful to the hand panner with a heart of gold who offered lessons for free on RUclips. I just subscribed🎉
I watched 4 different beginner guides before i finally came across yours, which was the only guide that talked about posture and position, thank you so much for this thorough guide!
Just received my hadpan today. I was lost and, at my age (75 years), it was not easy. Frankly, your video is precious and so complete, including body training. Thank you ever so much, Amy, you're a great teacher. And a very nice girl. Take care. Love from Paris.
I have been playing guitar for 45 years and drums for 43 years (in three bands with almost exclusively self-composed songs). Now I wanted to take a new musical path and initially thought of playing the harp again, as I did 20 years ago for 4 years. While watching the harp videos, I discovered the handpan, played by Malte Marten, for the first time in the recommendations for other videos. "Bloody hell", I thought to myself. Why only now, when I'm already 62 years old. But after all, you're never too old to learn something new. Everything looked so easy on the videos of handpan players. As a drummer, I shouldn't have any problems, I thought. When I got my Sela 220 Melody Handpan D Kurd a few days ago and started playing, or rather trying to play, I was extremely frustrated and thought this purchase was probably a mistake. So I started looking for videos that offered hanpan tutorials on RUclips. At first I watched the tutorials in my native German, which were quite good, but the spark just wouldn't quite ignite. Then I discovered Amy by chance. Her absolutely authentic, relaxed and likeable manner rekindled my hopes of becoming a handpan player after all. And after what I've seen in her videos so far, I'll probably book her masterclass course too. Thank you so much, Amy, without you I would certainly have sent the pan back!
You Sir have inspired me to look for a hand pan. I’ve played percussion on and off since I was 11, now 62, and I’m falling in love with the sound of this instrument. My favorite instruments are the Güiro and the bongos, but I have also played Conga, Cow bell, Cleves, Cabassa and other Latin music instruments. I agree, this young lady is an excellent teacher. Best wishes in your journey into the hand pan.
I did not intend on really watching this, i just clicked it, i play manny instraments, and for manny years, but i tell you what, this is a top level guide, you presented this sooo well, how you space your words, and take breaf brakes, real easy to listen to you, keep up the great work, top marks, propper tutorial, every comment is so posative, your doing SO well, thank you for shareing your art, just wow..
My boyfriend bought me a hand plan for christmas which only arrived 2 sleeps ago. It is beautiful, and i was so keen to get playing. I watched some other youtuber teachers, which taught me some imprtant things but i found them to be more rushed and very overwhelming for my adhd self. Usually the warm up/get prepared parts of any video gets skipped because i am either too eager or cant focus enough. However, the posture and stretching in this video left me feeling incredibly limber and with a quiet mind. I will be putting on meditation music and practicing this each time. The scales and patterens you taught in this video left me feeling aconplished, while making it simple for me to pinpoint exacly what i need to work on. Thanks to you, i will be practicing every day and hopefully i will soon develop my skills enough to invest in your masterclass. Thank you from australia!
I love your wholistic approach to teaching! It's not just about striking the instrument and making sounds. You have a way of teaching people to connect their body with the instrument - to be in tune with it (no pun intended!). Thank you for this ❤
nice vid. just gave in and bought a handpan last night. been watching these types of vids for last 3 years. love the sound. im not a musician, i just wanna try something new in life.
This is absolutely superb teaching … clear, concise but incredibly detailed. I can’t wait to learn from these videos when I have saved up enough to get my first Meridian hand pan
You are such a delight! You speak so clearly and your teaching skills are marvelous! I just bought a used handpan ( and yes, one note is a bit off, but.... used...) and you are already helping me a lot!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you Amyyyy!!! I just don´t believe it! I followed your instructions throughout the video, and doing things ever imaging to be doing. I am sooo grateful!! And liking even more such an amazing instrument!!
I just bought my first pan from Sweet Water. It's a Schlagwerk 8-note Dominant Handpan - D Kurd Minor. (Not quite sure what that is yet but note wise this little setup spoke to me) It'll be here Wednesday! I'm only 9 minutes in so far and have learned a ton already. THANK YOU a million times over for such a wonderful well thought out training session for a total newbie on a pan. :)
I just started to play handpan last week! Here in my country, (Japan) there are not enough handpan lesson videos, information, or classes. I watch your lesson videos every day and practice. Amy, you are so wunderful! When ever i look for videos for inspiration with my lovely handpan i rest and enjoy your channel with your lovely kind of playing and talking to us. In your videos you make us feel like be together with you an our pans. That's great; i feel a lot off inspiration. Thank you so much!
My first ever handpan arrived 2 days ago and today I was training with your videos. They are such an amazing resource and super helpful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for teaching us this for free. I will definitely check out more of your tutorials and also your patreon :) Take care and thanks a thousand
Amy, you are a Godsend, I just learned about this beautiful instrument and am considering picking one up. I’m perhaps old enough to be your grandpa but I’m happy to have found your video. I’ve played other instruments through my life, my favorite is the Güiro and the second is the bongos, your explanations for playing are easy to follow and your vocalization is very easy to understand, a perfect combination. I’ve subscribed and will return once I find a hand pan of my own. Thanks for a wonderful video.
Absolutely fantastic, thank you so very much. I am setting out to learn the Handpan because I would like to experience it in the jungle where I live and in the cenotes and caves by which we are surrounded. If you ever come to the Yucatan, I would be honored to show you around our Cenotes well off the beaten path.
Ms. Naylor........good job.....very very excellent handpan beginners instructional video provided quality concepts an approach...your unbelievably generous thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for the tutorial I think those fingering, taping and being delicate from left to right techniques will come in handy later tonight when my handpan arrives. I am so excited!
Thank you Amy, this is so amazing, you are a natural teacher!!! Such a nice way. My pan will be arriving Monday, but ime practicing with you on a lid of a cooking pan, to get some techniques before it arrives. Thank you so much!!!
Amy, thank you for your videos I love how clear your teaching is. I've just ordered my first pan and can not wait to open the box, get comfy and replay this video..... I pray I can get mine to sound as beautiful as yours lol. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for doing this video and covering so much fundamental information! How to stretch and take care of your body---stuff I need to learn and do even outside of playing the handpan! I've had a handpan for a year but never could figure out how to make it sound any good. Other videos I think assume that we know the basics, which I don't. I have a keyboard and wind instrument background so percussion is a whole new world. Look forward to practicing with your videos and making my handpan sing like you can!
Thank you for putting out your wisdom on this beautiful instrument the handpan. In your opinion what would be the best way to purchase a handpan online?
Thank you for this! Interesting tip about the angle downwards. How does it not tend to slip/shift further down though? Seems like a pretty smooth material without a lot of grip, no? Or are you squeezing it with your legs perhaps?
Thanks so much! I’m getting ready to get my first pan! Never played anything in my life but guitar briefly and I’m so excited! Loved your info! Now I’m singing “strike it like it’s hot” instead of drop it like it’s hot! 🔥 ha! 🤣
