Greetings from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island! I discovered the handpan because of YOU! What a great resource you have provided. Music is my life. Started at the age of 12. Classically trained, multi-instrumentalist, and I've explored and collected world music instruments for several decades. Just ordered my first handpan from Marketa at Meridian. I plan on combining the handpan with kalimbas, amadinda, various ethnic flutes, djembes and talking drums, mouth harps, guitar, cittern...and so much more. The handpan will bring a whole new pallette of sounds to my work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Cheers, and big hugs from Canada!
.. l was so amazed when a my friend mine played his Handpan, but when i happened to watch your RUclips video for beginners, .. l realized that it is not so complicated to learn that ETHREAL sounding instrument, .. . thank you so much on your tutorial video & God bless
I only just recently got a Rav Vast G Pygmy. This series is the first like this that I have seen. I was mystified by the patterns I would see people play and not really completely be able to make sense of it. This is super helpful. I don't have a history in percussion other than my enjoyment in music. Thank you so much!
Love this !! Never played an instrument before and have no music theory background and have my first handpan! Really love these videos and appreciate you so much breaking them down 🧡💛
Hi Amy! Thank you so much for these videos! I'm a beginner, never played a percussion instrument before and this is super helpful! I will admit, I'm having a hard time working notes into the grooves..I'm not quite used to timing i guess? But I will keep practicing with you as I'm having such a good time!!
Thank you for this - I am awaiting my handpan and cannot wait to begin. Glad I have something to reference as I have no classical training what-so-ever!
It's a real cool one. Thank you so much Amy. I have my handpan for the second day and you made it very easy to follow, without being afraid not to make it. I love it. My back and hands are a little bit in pain😁😉, but for the rest it's a lot of fun😍
Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying your new handpan. Take care of your back though! Make sure you're playing in a comfortable position, whether with the instrument on your lap or on a stand, and try not to lean over it too much. I struggled with my shoulders in the early days because of bad posture. It's good to fix it early!
I love music that is "dance alongy to". 😏 Your teaching style is very engaging. For that reason, it makes so much sense that I found you through Omri. We don't have a handpan so I've glued some used yogurt and fruit cup containers to a cardboard box for my kids to practice with. ☺️
you are so amazing :) love your tutorials - so funny when you say: just giving you a few extra ideas and I have to rewind a zillion times to catch where you exactly change what notes - having a blast trying to track your fingers and attempting to play it on my own :))))
I just found you and I am soo thankful for your videos!! You are amazing! Thank you so much for your wonderful and easy explanations... You take the pressure of me and playing becomes so much more fun! Thank you!!!🙏💕
This is amazing and your style of explanation is so understandable! Just got mine and was wondering how long until to get to a full song and how many hours a day should I get to practice! How long took you to learn handpandrum?
Thank you! I'm glad it's helpful for you. Everyone learns at different paces and I would so to practice as often and for as long as you can without it ever feeling like a burden. If it ever stops being fun, take a break, play, explore, be curious, and then dive back in again. Take your time, enjoy where you're at now. You've got so much fun ahead of you!! 😁😁
I do not really understand how you create that slap sound. When I try to do it on my Handpan (beginner, have only had it 4 days) all the tones that are nearby also sound all around, but I can't get that dry sound effect you do so beautifully. Would appreciate good advice!
If your handpan is made with stainless steel, it is almost inevitable that other notes will ring when you slap. You can try knocking with your knuckle to a different more gentle effect, and slapping with two fingers, keeping your fingers down on the steel as close to the edge as you can
You can hold it in whichever direction you wish!! This is the "first position" and my personal favourite. Many people play with the first and second note in front of them equally, and some folks for certain songs will move the pan around completely - but its most common to stick with lower notes in front
Not at all, though the sound will likely be different... I've actually never played one!! As long as you aren't hitting hard, you can play however/wherever you like ☺️
@@AmyNaylorMusic awesome! Thank you so much for responding 😄 Im a beginner here, so gonna learn a few tricks from your channel 👍 thanks for taking time to share ✌️
Wow, Your teaching attract to learn 🤩 abcp: any body can play. i will start learning soon. Can you gift me the T-Shirt “Handpan Tshirt” if I learn something or many things 😍.

I have a handpan that looks identical it id an Isthmus Instruments E Sabye. Is that what this one is?
This is a D Kurd from Ariel Handpan. But they do look similar
I can't seem to groove and melody at the same time. I notice it's not a measure and a measure off. Can you help me break the divide?
Can I hold the hand pand differently? Or do the bigger circles always have to face me ??
You can hold it in whichever direction you wish!! This is the "first position" and my personal favourite. As you would hit on top in the middle of an apex ding. Would it be harming the handpan to hit inside the dimple in the inpex ding?
Not at all, though the sound will likely be different... I've actually never played one!! As long as you aren't hitting hard, you can play however/wherever you like ☺️

I think you should model the "abcp" t-shirt!! Love that sentiment 😊
