  • George Turner grew up on the west side of Wilmington. Although he lived within eyesight of A.I. DuPont Elementary School, he had to walk several miles to the Colored elementary school near 8th and Scott Street to attend school. For this reason, his situation was considered by Louis Redding to be included as one of the Delaware Segregation cases that eventually became part of the landmark 1954 Supreme Court "Brown v. Board of Education" case.
