Once again, Novak the Enjoyer creates a work of beauty. Bro, I love your music, your voice, and your commitment to share and inspire. Thanks for doing your thing. 🙏🏽
I haven’t listened to enough of Thom’s solo stuff but this immediately made me think if ok computer and kid a had a love child it would sound like this…
@@NovakTheEnjoyer yeah man you nailed the vibe. As a musician myself it’s hard to emulate an artist you love without sounding too much like you are just copying them. This is very well done! Very cool man.
This is so great to hear! The OP-1 pulled me out of a really long funk where I couldn’t find the will to write or record anything. For recording, it’s like riding a bull. Don’t let it throw you off. Thank you so much for the comment, it means a lot to know you’re energized. 😁
Picked up a new sub dude. As a guitarist, I’m just now trying to start incorporating the Field into what I do. There’s so much to learn, but watching you is an inspiration. Thanks and keep it up.
I love the vocoder! I use the built in mic a lot and for a number of different reasons, but when using the vocoder, I turn the mic input gain up in the input menu before going back to the vocoder. You also have your mix knob in the vocoder that you can mess with to allow for your voice to come through a little if you want. I’ve been messing around with using the vocoder as my personal harmonizer.
Oh man, I don’t know what to say to that. Just a neurotic super dork obsessed with the jams. I’m really glad you like it and appreciate you taking the time to listen. Thanks!!
Love all of this, man. All your OP-1 Drum Kits are the subtle and organic type I usually reach for but have a hard time finding. Do you build your own kits, or find good options somewhere?
Great song! To echo some things other said, it's well composed, performed, recorded, and knit together with the vocals, synths, guitar, and percussive element. Very nice melody, tones, and overall vibe. And it makes me feel motivated to record more with my OP-1 (OG, in my case), and play around with the endless sequencer more. Any tips on that would be appreciated! It looks like some of the things you're doing it are starting and stopping it midway through the sequence and also sometimes shifting the starting pitch in the middle of it playing through? Of course, feel free not to answer (a magician and his tricks and all that) - in any case, I look forward to seeing what else you come up with!
I love this! No hidden tricks here. The endless sequence is my go to for a touch of organized chaos. After I lay a simple beat down, I like to take a percussive kit, hold shift, and play in random sounds but with one or two chosen sounds as anchors. 16 steps for less random, 32 steps for more complex. Any other number is just more chances for happy accidents. Switching keys and playing the sequence adds a whole other layer. I usually jam that out until I find something that feels good before I commit to tape. This also works for synths, or lead sounds. Coming from Modular synthesizers, I have an affinity for random generators of any kind. They always keep things interesting. The endless sequencer gives you as much or as little control over the randomness as you choose to have. This is why it’s my go to. Thanks for watching and dropping a line!! ✌🏼😎
@@NovakTheEnjoyer Awesome, thank you for the response! I just tried it out a little (both with percussive and melodic sounds) and got some interesting, promising results - although I suspect this is one of those things where a lot of the skill comes down to not just figuring out the basic technique, but experimenting, generating material, and then being able to separate the wheat from the chaff, which requires a good ear. More or less organized chaos is a good way of putting it, especially compared to the tombola, which is the main OP-1 sequencer I'd used for randomness before now and feels more on the chaotic side (and can be great for ambient twinkly plinks and plonks and stuff like that, but less great for other things). Anyway, thanks again!
@@SonicCartography all of these tools have their strengths, for sure. Tombola is great for ambient stuff as it is uncontrollable. My inclination is to go into a light percussion preset and drop 5 or six balls in and record 4 bars. Then bend that into something musical and controlled. It’s a game of chance. My personal fav!
Everything was done within the OP-1 Field except for the Moog. The chord stabs are coming from the Moog Subharmonicon, but the sequencing is all drums and synth sounds from within the OP1. Guitar is mic’d through the OP1 mic, but there is no processing through a DAW whatsoever. ✌🏼😎
Everything you hear was recorded and mixed by the OP-1 Field with no help from a DAW. It’s possible! It’s not easy, but if you’re patient, you would be surprised with how much you can do on this thing. Thanks so much for watching! 🙏🏼
Nice song man. By the way, those HS5s don't do well on their side like some monitors can, their sonic profile is pretty much upright or bust, just FYI, peace.
Awe man, I appreciate that. I’m not on the platforms. I haven’t gotten my house in order yet when it comes to releases, but sometime in the near future. Thanks for listening!
I’m getting more comfortable with the singing so I should be putting more out. I appreciate the comment 😃 As for the OP1F mic… I’m determined to get good all around recordings out of it because I love the idea of being so mobile and concise with the equipment. Just a dumb little challenge I set for myself and I feel like I still have a LONG way to go. It’s fun! I hear you though. It ain’t know Neumann, that’s for sure.
This is giving me Radiohead TKoL vibes. Love it!
Too nice 🙏🏼
Amazing track and a stunning vocal man.
Ahh, thank you so much!! Thanks for listening!
I thought OP-1 is a toy. You've changed my mind. Just beautiful.

The music, video editing, and reading and watching your process is all so beautiful. Well done.
Thank you so much!

Thanks dude!
Wow, that song is absolutely gorgeous! It really evokes that feeling of beauty and gives me a tranquil feel. Great job!!

Such a sick tune you put together here. Blown away by the perfect pairing of the Moog, OP-1 and guitar. Keep it up! Absolutely killing it!

Damn I was just looking for some OP-1 Field Music and here I am enjoying the shit out of your voice man! Subbed!

very curious to hear why you use the built in op1f mic instead of the cm15? in what circumstances do you choose one over the other? thanks!!
