The CM-15 Pop Filter is real! #teenageengineering #cm15 #op1field
Here's a demo of the new CM-15 Pop Filter by yours truly. This pop filter was first seen in my "Magic Mic" video, and after a year of trying to figure it out, I've finally finished it. It's shipping now from novaktheenjoyer.com in small batches, it's a process and I'm running everything solo, so thanks for your patience.
I would love to start a patreon but I don't think I can keep up with the content demand. Instead, I've spent a whole year bringing you a way to support me that supports your music and field recordings as well. The song in the video will soon be its own Song/Breakdown video. Stay tuned for that!

I don’t even own a CM15 and I knew the video was gonna be fire. Amazing content, beautiful sounds, beautiful visuals, honestly this is my favorite channel on youtube right now. GIVE ME MOAARRRR🔥🔥
@@MidlifeSynthesist daaaayyuuuuum! 🙂↔️ 🙏🏼I’m speechless🙏🏼
🙌🏼 fair play!
Whew! I do NOT have a CM-15 BUT I am super glad you're doin alright in whatever part of LA you're in!! Good luck with turning yourself into a factory ;)
@@xairvideo thanks man, we’re by downtown. We’ve been seeing it, but fortunately from a distance. Yeah, the factory thing… I thought about that. I have to be careful or it won’t be about the jams anymore because there won’t be any.
Well, if I had the CM-15 I’d be all over this. Cool video as usual though!

Holy shit, that's a lot of people. I'll try to make more faster than I said in the video. Thanks for your patience!!
Damn! Sold out already!
Yo, what’s up dude! If you’re looking for one, I added a notify me button to the shop so you know when the next batch gets released. Thanks for watching!
@@NovakTheEnjoyerty!! Have needed this desperately 🙏

Noooo, I woke up too late and tried buying before I even finished the video and were sold out. Would you do a bundle with the Field and CM?
Yo, thanks for watching! I added a notify me button to the shop if you want to get on the list for the next release ✌🏻
Damn already sold out. Hoping the next batches aren't too limited
Hey! I’m working on another batch, but I’ve added a notify me button to the shop if you want to know when the next batch gets released. Thanks for watching!
Quick question - I'd like to pick up a CM-15 within the next couple months, but I'm curious if there's a noticable difference in quality between the built-in phantom power vs. phantom power via an interface?
Not that I can tell.

omg! great color! great video!!!!!
Oh how i've been waiting for this thing brother!! Buying mine right now!
Ordered before I finished watching 🤣
🤩
Way to go, dude! Why TE didn't make this exact thing themselves is beyond me. Maybe they'll hire you, ha. Anyway, great design thinking for a mic that certainly deserves it. Had my CM-15 for a year now and it kills!
Thanks a lot! I'm still using mine regularly along with my OP1F. Yeah, I'm surprised something like this has been so hard to come by. Not anymore, I guess, lol. Thanks for hangin out!
dope stuff, song was really nice sounding as well. I was wondering if you were gonna be trying the OPXY?
Thanks so much for watching! I've definitely thought about the XY a lot. @midlifesynthesist and @sonwu have me drooling over them and I absolutely need more sequencing alternatives. If I do, it will definitely challenge my video making skills as I think that one would need the special sauce it deserves. Looking forward to trying one at some point.
Very cool…I want one…and I want a CM-15 😅

I also use the vocoder to record my voice. There is a way to have multiple effects. Once you've recorded whatever you like to record using the vocoder, you can record from one tract to another (by muting the onces you do not need) and use a master effect. So, if you have someting on track 1,2 and 3 and you want an additional effect on what you have on track 1. Mute track 2 and 3. Select in recording (shift microphone) OUT-IN. Go to track 4 on your tape, press the mixer button. Press shift-3 and select your effect (you can press play to hear the effect on what you have on track 1). One done, go to tape. Make sure (again) you're on track 4. Press the microphone again to enable OUT-IN (if not enabled yet) and start to record track one with an effect to track 4. After you can always lift track 4 and replace track 1 by dropping it. You can do this multiple time to stack multiple effects or mixer settings on the tape.
@@Giovanni1a I love this! Thanks for contributing!! This process is the part of the op1 that frustrates people the most. The instrument seems to be designed for more of an instinctive approach. Once you go beyond that, it gets pretty difficult to achieve things that you could do so easily on other machines. Because you have to jump through so many hoops with the risk of damaging or losing the original audio, gives it a certain character that no other process could give it. I think that’s where the magic is.
@@NovakTheEnjoyer Great video btw. To cope with the lack of undo, I always setup my "baseline" of a song in one tape (no overdubbing) and after clone this tape to get to work. Once I've made something I really need/like to keep. I lift it from the tape and drop it in my initial (backup) tape. This means that if I make a mistake I can always revert back to the original without the lack of having to startover again.
@ this is something I’ve never done. I’ve transferred stuff from tape to tape, but it never dawned on me to back things up this way. Excellent!
wow! all of this has been done entirely inside the OP1F????? no external mixing no nothing else?
@@mimodelorean the only thing happening outside of the op1f is whatever I recorded into it, but yeah…. Nothing else.
So good, bravo, big bravo 👏...(and i'm a mf hiphop head)
@@shaabaaz3083 damn, thanks man! I appreciate that very much 👊🏼
Looking back, I really enjoy this format 😄
@@TheDayZEnthusiasts do you mean the song/breakdown in the video? Or the op1 workflow?
Very nice set up, how do you like the Microcosm Hologram ? I had one , but I got a lot more use out of my Strymon Timeline, so I let hologram go to a friend.
I love the microcosm. Between that and the Chroma Console, I don’t really use any other effects except for what is already in the OP1F. I hope they add more.
Hey Does the OP-1 FIELD the 2nd OP-1 Have and "UNDO" Button????? please let me know!!!
@@AutismMusician it does not, unfortunately ☹️
@@NovakTheEnjoyer NOOOooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!! What the heck did they do then? lol They Had but 1 JOB !!!!!
very curious to hear why you use the built in op1f mic instead of the cm15? in what circumstances do you choose one over the other? thanks!!
I’m just thinking now, these feel more special than the way music is released these days.. here the depiction of the creation process becomes a part of the piece of art. Cool 👍😄
Could someone do this for a painting 😄?
Futuristic art distribution.
Cool intersection of mediums! That’s what’s so cool about RUclips..
Whoa! I remember the experience of buying a record or cassette as a kid and spending hours pouring over the lyrics and art. Reading through who wrote and produced what. What a beautiful experience. Maybe we’re onto something here 🧐
@Novak I miss those 🥲
How ya been, man? I dig the vibes. Still dreaming of upgrading to the field XD! Huh, I see you're sending the mix into the OP1f. That's cool. Would you purchase a TX6 again, having used it now? What are your thoughts on the TP7? (Why is the sky blue? What is the meaning of life? and more questions..)
Hey dude! The TP-7 and the OP-1 Field are the same price on Reverb, around $1500 each. This makes no sense to me. The TP-7 is a dictaphone, while the OP1F is a full fledged studio. I think the TP-7 is a shiny toy that doesn’t really do much. At least not for me, and not for that price. It beautiful! Just not functional. The TX-6…. If you’re not playing or recording more than one instrument at a time, I don’t understand why you would buy it. It does beat taking a big audio interface around with you if you’re a laptop musician, and it’s a beautiful object, but there are cheaper options out there. If the looper was actually functional, I’d say maybe. Currently, you can only play one loop at a time. I don’t understand why they didn’t make it capable to play a loop per track so that you could actually build out a song on it. I was hopeful for an update, but I don’t think TE is in the business of actively updating the software of its products, so I don’t even think about it. Just a paper weight at this point TBH. Neither of these pieces expand the capabilities of the OP1F in any meaningful way for me 🤷🏻♂️.

@@ixamer7 awe dude, that’s awesome! The nice thing is that you don’t have to throw your DAW out. You can always use it if you need it, but disconnecting is such a beautiful thing 👌🏼 Thanks for watching!
Dude, when you say you lift and drop/copy the main melody are you then copying it left and right in that stereo cream pie field you were talking about? What’s the point of the lift and drop of the main melody in this example? This (and all your videos) are amazing! I’m learning so much! And coping that pop filter 😄
@11:15 if you were unsure.
Thanks for the time code, and thanks for watching! I never copy/paste parts for splitting. I always perform the second take. When you copy/paste a part for stereo, it has a terrible phasing quality to it that just doesn't give you a nice stereo effect. In this situation I use a guitar as an example. 1. Record guitar part to one side (Tape Screen - SHIFT + Turn Red Knob before recording to pan Left or Right) and then record the part. 2. Lift (Copy) guitar part to have it in the buffer incase you screw up the second take. 3. Drop the drop that take back down so you have it on the tape. 4. Tape Screen - (SHIFT + Turn Red Knob to pan the opposite side) 5. Record (overdub) same part again to the other side creating a thick and creamy goodness If that second take doesn't go well and messes the whole thing up, you can always just re-drop the first take (because it's sitting in your buffer) and retry the second take. Otherwise, if you scrap everything you'll need to keep recording the first take over again too, and at that point I'm ready to blow my brains out. I hope that clears it up a bit for you! Otherwise you can just use a DAW and save yourself all the hassle and headaches, lol. Thanks again for hanging out!
@9:18 Stereo input!!! I needed this so much and my joy level just went way up!
Yeeaaah!!! ✌🏼
11:11 no way the voice recording was done that far away with the internal mic?! also: how'd you process the voice recording without the op1 having insert effects? theres clearly some reverb on the final audio
Hey, thanks for watching! When it comes to using the microphone, I never record straight to tape. Instead, I use the vocoder which gives you an effect that is separate from the master effects. In the vocoder settings, when you turn the mix (red) knob all the way up until you see the red dot, you'll hear the full dry signal of the microphone. As long as you're not pressing any keys you won't hear the vocoder. It's a nice little cheat code for getting an extra layer of effects just for the mic.
Probably said already, but just in case: SHIFT + LIFT a looped region to lift multiple tracks at once. Then SHIFT + DROP to drop it as one audio clip. Careful: the mixer volumes AND MUTES effect the lifted tracks.
I'm glad you mentioned this. At the time of recording this I don't believe that update happened yet, but I find myself using SHIFT + DROP now to lift the volume of a good take if it's too quiet in the mix. Otherwise, it always makes me nervous to use this just to consolidate tracks with no undo. One way the OP1F has changed my recording style is that it has simplified my writing. The fear of screwing everything up and the awareness of only getting 4 tracks and whatever you overdub (risky) keeps things refreshingly simple as opposed to the unlimited choices of a DAW where things can quickly and unnecessarily get convoluted and messy.
@NovakTheEnjoyer I always try to keep an "unmerged version" at the back of the track somewhere
@ yes! This is the way 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
sickkkk
