Sampling On The OP-1 Field + TE Drum Utility - ALL DAWLESS JAM #cm15 #op1field #songwriting
NO DAW used in the making of the jam at the end! All done within the OP-1 Field. I did, however, use a DAW to make the sample pack.
Making a sample pack is one of the most fun things to do. In this video, I'll take you through a little bit of what my experience is with sampling on the OP1F. You can get the "Pencils" Sample pack FREE on my website.
There's also a music video at the end. Hope you enjoy it!

      @@NovakTheEnjoyer Geez man, I don’t know how in the F**k you get no pops or clicks when cutting or editing. I’m so used to a DAW, to make songs on the OP1 you definitely have to have some performance skills. By the way in your recent video you said your favorite way to sample drums or percussion is to record directly onto tape and lift that then drop inside Op1 drum sampler to then edit each key? Or what do you mean exactly?

    • @NovakTheEnjoyer
      @NovakTheEnjoyer 12 дней назад

      @@NealCaen you definitely have to allow for imperfections to guide the music. I stopped listening for the clicks and pops and just wrote through it. Just finishing music became the priority, so the production takes a hit, but when it’s heard by someone who had nothing to do with it, they don’t necessarily hear any of the bad stuff because they assume it was meant to be in there, lol. That’s how I see it anyway. Putting drums straight to the tape was how I made the sample pack. That’s how I got all the sounds I needed. From there I edited all the silence and then dropped the sounds into the drum sampler. I usually don’t do that when I’m making a drum beat. I usually rip some sounds off of an Instagram post of a solo drum beat or something straight into the drum sampler. Once I chop them up, I go to town with the endless sequencer.

    FYI if you turn off all master effects (eq, fx, drive) and max out input volume, you can internally resample tracks and it will come out to exactly the same volume as whatever you put in. This can let you bake effects on top of existing recordings. Or if you wanna get really creative you can try recording master effects on to tracks in reverse (shift+record then shift+play). Using the OP-1 reminds me of the time I used to make complex music using a cassette 4-track and a bunch of stuff that wasn't supposed to be used, like shoes in a dryer for drums. That is, it forces me to engage the part of my brain that spawns creativity and looks for interesting ways to solve artistic problems, and that's why I love it. It made me fall in love with making music again, and that's why, after being into synths and music since the late 80s, it's still the best instrument I've ever owned.

    Hey Novak, I love your videos on RUclips and find it the best op1 field content I can find. I am seriously considering getting one to try and write songs. I play guitar and use pedals. I also have the chroma console and microcosm and love them. Making songs on a looper isn’t the best lol. I hate computers and the idea of using a DAW is a big turn off. I like the physical aspect of the op1. I can’t find any real information on recording electric guitar into the op1 like you and a guy called Indian runner do. Are you using the output jack of the amp into the op1 ? Thanks would love to know how you get such clean recordings with pedals

    • @NovakTheEnjoyer
      @NovakTheEnjoyer 28 дней назад

      @@Skiptothebeat007 hey, thanks so much for watching! We’re in the same boat! 😃 As far as the guitar is concerned, I don’t plug the output of an amplifier in to the OP1. I go straight in from the guitar for a clean tone, or I take whatever effect pedals I’m using and go straight into the line in off the OP1 from those. If I use an amplifier with either the base or guitar, I mic it every time. Loopers are fun for about 30 seconds. That being said, the workflow of the OP1 is like having a looper where you can see everything you’re doing. This changes everything for me because expanding on a loop becomes possible and manageable. Put all this together with the immediacy that you are given access to every aspect of instrumentation and songwriting in a simplistic design makes it the only thing I need. From the sound of it, the OP one would probably be a good choice for you. You can always return it if you don’t like it, but if it changes your life half as much as it changed mine, it’s worth twice the price.

      How does the guitar get a electric get a loud enough sound with our an amp. Does the op1 have a built in preamp? Also some effects like the drive section on the chroma console can introduce pickup up noise from my telecaster single coils. Does that happen when straight plugged in or is there a gate pedal or something you use ? Ya not being able to see what’s going on in the loop is the hardest part but with a screen and with time points would be a game changer. Despite people saying the op1 has so many limitations the options look endless to me lol coming from someone who has never used a daw.

    I can so relate to what you said about the magic moment of creating the song for the first time. There is nothing like that exact authentic arrangement of notes from emotions. • @NovakTheEnjoyer
      @NovakTheEnjoyer 28 дней назад

      Yeah, there's nothing like it. There's also nothing like the feeling of not recording the idea right away and saying you'll remember it, and realizing an hour later that the idea now lives on the other side of Pluto and you'll never be hearing that idea in your head ever again, lol! I don't have any experience with the TP7, but I hear it's great for the example above. Quick recordings. However, it doesn't have a condenser mic (CM15) built into it. I can't imagine the TP7 having a different mic than the OP1F in it in which case, it's a great mic, but not for professional recordings. That little trailing off lead thing is dope. Using the Lfo as an envelope there?

      Dude! Yes, but that's actually it's just a preset called Haunted on the OP1F in the DSYNTH. I just added a little reverb but it definitely utilizes the LFO. Amazing how far the sounds they've designed will go. Right tool for the right job :)

      @@NovakTheEnjoyer yeah some of the presets are great. I don’t usually purchase packs but the rephazer OP-1F stuff is incredible. There’s a preset somewhere that uses a reverse envelope to give a really unique ducking swell to the mother reverb wet parameter. Such a cool idea. If you’ve ever played through a synth with a paraphonic filter behavior, it feels a bit like that.

      @@ShawnBrandon888 hey Shawn, thanks for watching! I just bounced out of the OP1F and put it into Davinci Resolve. There was no processing after the OP1. All the compression was done with the master compressor in the OP1, and then bounced to the record. Then there’s whatever RUclips does in terms of compression. I did try to clean up the talking head dialogue with a Desser and an LA2A Compressor, but as far as the music goes, I don’t touch it with anything outside of the OP1. Performing the mix onto the record makes it possible to ride the mixer in case there are some loud spots in the mix. With a few practice passes you can really dial it in although in this particular case, I was lucky in the mixing department as everything felt pretty comfy in its place.

    Hey Novak, I hope you don’t get tired of hearing how inspiring you are. While I’m grateful for the “content” that is created by all the tenacious RUclipsrs out there, and have benefited and learned from their offerings, your channel is different. I wouldn’t feel right about calling you a “content creator “. You’re a true artist in my mind. Every bit is creative. Dude, you have my respect, admiration, and best wishes, always. Cheers!
