    I know you have much more followers on other platforms, but I primarily use RUclips and really appreciate your adding it here. This was a great episode for many reasons. I cannot stress how helpful it is to have you walk thru the details of how this recent injury was for you and the stress factor being so impactful.
    Also, random nugget I didn't know but totally makes serious and helps me a ton, that hypermobile folks also take longer to heal? That's great news as much as it's super disappointing, it helps me not be so hard on myself and go into what's wrong and will I ever heal mode.
    Thank you for your willingness to be authentic thru this. And here's to many years without anywhere near this level of injury again.

    I’m a single parent. L4L5 disc herniation. Back surgery in 2017 at 27 years old. Fast forward to now when I have a 2 and 1 year old. Realizing I probably have EDS. I have flare ups like you’re talking about. My neck seized up the other day. It was super hard because I’m used to back flare ups and spasms. I know that pain and I know it passes usually in 7 days and I wait it out and do small movements while I wait. But I was freaking out with the neck pain because I knew I had to somehow get my kids in the car in the morning for daycare and I didn’t know how to handle this pain. After I somehow got my kids in bed (which I was basically gasping and fainting with the pain), I literally laid on a heating pad and cried and did not move the rest of the night. But I did force myself early the next morning to watch a billion RUclips videos on neck spasms. I think the extra motivation of being a single parent did help because you just have to suck it up buttercup. But the panic of the situation could have also spiraled me mentally and a depressive episode was on call. I am so happy I was able to move thru it and now I know how to handle that pain moving forward. It sucked. But I’m learning more about myself. And I can do hard things. 👍🏽👍🏽

    Injury since 2009 as a kid, constant blowouts over the years what require a 7 day lay up to recover from. L4-L5
    The most benefitial recovery protocols involve the entire McKenzie Method of therapy (prioritize ergonomic function), and at home decompression/inversion.
    Those practices coupled with all the great mobility and strength protocols you guys work with, and the keys to prevent injury or relapse with this common form of mechanical injury.

    I had a L4/L5 central disc extrusion (full rupture) in 2006. It sucked, I wouldn't wish that discomfort on anyone. I was also advised surgery but managed to stick it out enough for my body to clean up the material and heal. since then I've discovered that I've been compensating ever since, pretty much locking up my lumbar as a built-in back brace of muscle. This led to muscle pain all the way up and the compensation propoaged up. If I stopped paying attention to how I moved I'd get (and still do) a very familiar screwdriver in the back stab sensation and jolts all the way down my legs just like you mention. An encounter with a wonderful DPT two years ago helped me recognize this and we worked on mobilizing my back again and using the muscles there to move from the lumbar instead of my knees and ankles. I learned the value of supine trunk rotations, open book, etc.. She was manipulating my back and said she could feel my vertibrae just move all around. Then she popped a rib back in, which I had no idea was a thing. We discovered I was using my muscles 'all wierd', using all my big muscles and not so much the small stabilizing ones. She kept marveling about the crazy range of motion I had, especially while being in pain, being a 45 year old male, and how that flexability might be part of something bigger that she sees other patients for. She gave me some information to read and research about hypermobility. So yeah... I was hEDS diagnosed a year ago.

      What a journey! Hopefully you have been able to look at it from a positive light? It sounds like you have been able to learn a lot about your body (and improve) as a result of everything you have gone through. Just so you know, you aren't alone in your experience. Also, ribs "subluxate" all the time for people! It can be very debilitating but is not usually something to be concerned with. Great work advocating for yourself and getting the help you need!

I did some decompression and that’s when my pain in lower back kicks in and sharp burning pain going down my leg. I do massages and chiropractic sessions which help a lot but sciatica comes back 30min after. Nice to hear your story. I’m just wondering if it gets worst before it heals. I feel like it’s super sensitive and nagging/ annoying pain right now. Currently doing back / leg exercises and mobility. I’ve been trying to find success stories from bulging/herniated disc. So I stopped doing it and I didn't have pain on daily basis but the pain is still there on certain movements when I was riding bike,while sitting in sofa,forward bending,sleeping on back etc.

    • @whealth_
      @whealth_  Год назад +1

      Glad to hear you have made improvements! What's fun about all of these "diagnoses" is that there are millions of people that have disc bulges/herniations/degeneration or arthritis and don't even know because they don't present with pain.
      I would argue that most movements are okay for the disc, however, too much of anything usually doesn't help. For instance, even drinking too much water can kill you! So, focusing solely on passive extension of the spine is not a suitable solution. You want to focus on controlled, slow flexion, extension, and lateral bending of the spine in various positions. You also want to strengthen the entire core (pelvis to shoulders) as well as the hips, feet, and shoulder blade positioning. Breath, and learning to breathe 360 degrees into your ribcage and lower back is also important. There is A LOT that can be done that you may not be aware of. This is the stuff that we help people figure out and apply to their daily lives via our programs.
