Unless if you live in isolation, your peers, surroundings, family, work culture and so on, can really affect how you carry yourself. I haven't bought any designer bags in the last 3 years. If you asked me last year, I might say to you, a bit of discipline is all you need for a successful low buy. Well, maybe that really isn't the case. Maybe it really isn't your fault that you can't stop shopping xx

Eileen this is such a good point. I have worked part-time at a store in a wealthy area for the last year and seeing the clients put their Dior and Louis Vuitton bags on the counter when they pay over and over again, day in and day out, made me start to feel like I was severely lacking. But now I also work full-time as a liaison for homeless students at an elementary school. Talk about a change in perspective. Now it is all about balance - having a safety net and occasionally treating myself to things that I truly want and not what is trendy.

Hey Anna, thank you so much for sharing! It’s so true our surroundings can really make a difference in the way we feel and do. Sometimes it’s hard to create the perfect, conducive social environment in daily life, so I find a lot of inspirations from reading books and watching inspiring videos xx

Nowadays, luxury for me is freedom, options, time and health. Thank you for your kind reminder. Its been a year now that I have stopped buying luxury goods. I just admire them from afar and like you I learned to be grateful and content.

It is difficult especially now with all the sales. I had to unsubscribe from all my website, magazines etc.
Take a day go into your wardrobe and make new outfits with what you have, include jewelry, shoes, etc. Take photos so you remember. I’m saving to purchase a home, so I had to stay focused.
When you see something you are tempted to buy, take that money and put it into savings.

Willpower only does so much for us, as the power of marketing and algorithm is so hard to resist. Actively choosing to opt out of being exposed to marketing and ads is one of the best things you can do to reduce spending 👍

As a younger person I was never taken with luxury or the idea of rewarding myself with material possessions. I’m so happy that my husband and I were on the same page when it came to our finances. Our biggest thrill was paying off debt, saving for our future and knowing we were financially secure. It’s only been in the last five to ten years that we’ve rewarded ourselves with some of the luxuries that we love. If it came down to having to make a decision between material possessions or experiences in life we would always choose time, travel and experiences with family and friends.

Have you watched "Living Lux with Meredith". She's a collector of luxury bags. She just spent $70,000 AUD on an LV croc bag. I watch, not by envy, but by entertainment and shock how anyone can spend ridiculous amounts of money. She's obviously super wealthy. I prefer minimalism. Having too many things around me stresses and overwhelms me.

I so agree with you regarding some of these collections. I love my luxury bags and have a small collection and a very small channel compared to most of these RUclipsrs. I don’t want to have a crazy amount of bags. It wouldn’t matter how much money I had I could never justify spending 70k on one bag. Of course to each their own but it’s just not for me.

At least compared to other “luxury” spectrum like watch and cars, bags price is not that outrageous when we compared the top of the line selection

    • @AnUrbanGypsy
      @AnUrbanGypsy Год назад +18

To be fair, Meredith isn’t a RUclipsr, she earns her money away from this platform but chooses to share her collection on RUclips for others to see - like a bag museum in video form. This bag is a one-off, spectacular bag. Many share collections of watches or cars that run into millions of dollars. These people know what they have isn’t normal and as most of us wouldn’t get to see these bags/cars/memorabilia, they share them with people who also enjoy them but prefer to have less. I don’t find it ridiculous, I find it fascinating.

the more I watch luxury contents, the more it makes me not wanting them 😅 not only I cannot afford, but also can't imagine how reckless I would be spending on those things like Aileen said, buying them like a toothbrush 😆 I watch luxury contents simply for entertainment & knowledge (a useless one that nobody ask). but i do enjoy watching them unboxing. at some point it makes me overwhelmed of how ridiculous it is to spend that much money. I don't feel envy at all but rather learn from them if I could make a better purchase in life

No one scoffs at people who collect vintage or expensive sports cars, art, coins, jewelry, the list goes on and on. People choose to collect many different things. I wonder why bagcollectirs get so many negative comments u like some of these other collectors. It is not overwhelming to them and those things are not daily use, daily life objects. Maybe minimalists aren’t collectors of anything. I don’t know as I dont know any minimalists personally. But bags like the ones Meredith has are truly works of art and rare in many instances. If I was overwhelmed by it I simply wouldn’t watch. I think her bags are amazing.

minimalism is SO helpful, I think everyone can reap the benefits of aspects of minimalism these days. Your story about the young girl dropping 7k on something so easily, I totally relate to the feeling, and then I step back and I think to myself, but I don't even WANT things that are that expensive, so that kinda helps me snap out the comparison guilt trip.

I used to work with the elderly in healthcare and I never thought of owning luxury items. Then I changed jobs and now I work as a Sales Professional in a jewelry store. I sell beautiful jewelry to customers such as diamonds and gold. The only problem is I find I get tempted and wishing I could own some of these pieces. I have to try to switch off. Perhaps one day I can own one of these luxury pieces but for now my main goal is to invest my money into paying off my house mortgage which is the most important thing to me.

Honestly, If you really can afford it and like the item so much, you can get it. It is ok for as long as it isn’t a debt. I think what you are describing is not minimalism. Minimalism is when you only spend to meet the bare minimum amount of items to meet your minimum needs. Thank you for sharing! ❤

i completely agree with how your surroundings and what you think is the norm can really affect you. my dad always tells me that it's the people that you surround yourself with that makes you feel things are the norm. i have friends that love luxury and others that don't, and i feel like this balance really helps me to stay grounded

  • @olgaanisimova6916

It is an interesting perspective especially coming from someone who enjoyed, valued and experienced having luxury items.
Having high quality, beautifully crafted clothes and accessories that most of the time come with a high price tag not only addicting but makes perfect sense. It is normal to want the best quality available.
If one had to start from scratch would one spend thousands of dollars on Hermès purses and jewelry, etc. Or does “less is more” imply that you would no longer make these purchases?

Thank you for this video. I often get drawn into comparisons about possessions and sometimes then comparisons about 'why am I not someone who can be a minimalist and not compare myself' - either way I can't win! But I found your words really grounding and I'm grateful you took the time to share this :)

Beautiful artwork!!! The very simple things in life.... so important to do. To be honest, I've always enjoyed listening and learning from others and appreciating their success at the same time but lately, don't know if it's because I've matured, I'm bored or simply a light bulb came on; I'm needing Intent included somewhere in the mix. I remember Luxury YTbers were helpful willing to share so others could learn. I don't see this as much anymore. Is it just me or is it all a trap? TFS&I Eileen. 🧡
