I have fine, high porosity curls & just wanted to say that the twist leave in conditioner you recommend is actually one of my favs! I also love the weather up lotion! It doesn't weigh my hair down at all
@@sa221 I'm a product junkie so I use several different gels lol. The AG liquid effects is really good, especially when I layer it on top of the AG curl fresh definer. Aveda's flaxseed & aloe gel is great too. They're both nice & runny so they're very lightweight, & they both have protein. Bounce curls gel works really well on my hair too. I love to use foams too.
@@VengefulAngeI have you found any mousse that you like? I'm also high porosity/fine but have waves and the mousse/gel/mousse technique always seems to work the best for me. I just bought the pantene curl mousse the other day and was nervous when I discovered it has 1 star reviews across the board since they apparently changed their formula at some point. I actually love the way my hair turned out with it though with the exception of the major frizz halo I got from it! It actually gave me great volume and definition aside from the frizz
This was very helpful!!! Just ordered the Twist hair gel!!!! My hairdresser said that my hair is fine, but it is damaged from straightening it with a blowdryer during the winter about a dozen times. Never doing that again!!!! Got 2 inches chopped off my length and I am trying to get my hair healthy again. Thank you for this video!!!
Thank you for all of the research that you put in with your videos! Looking at hair products at the store is OVERWHELMING! Labels can only explain so much. I enjoy hearing about the individual ingredients and what they do specifically for the hair. So much help!!! THANK YOU!
From best I can tell, I think I have fine normal porosity hair. I have never seen another curly RUclipsr go into depth the way you do about various hair porosities and best products to use. Great insight!
Love your shop page!! My hair is probably fine and more on the high porosity side. Currently, I'm using the Twist Leave In and Twist all weather gel, but I mix in just a bit of the Aussie Instant Freeze gel with it and it's the perfect combo for my hair! I also spray some of the Aussie Instant Volume hairspray while wet before diffusing and my waves/curls have never looked better! The hairspray trick was a game changer for me!
I have fine hair with very coarse grays, low to medium porosity. Finally, after a long, long search for a good shampoo and conditioner I found that Curlsmith Vivid Tones Shampoo and Glow Perfecting conditioner works the best for my hair. It's not too heavy for my fine hair and my grays love the conditioner. (I don't color my hair.) I then use the CS multi-tasking conditioner with the feather light protein cream. This seems to work best with frizz and taming the grays. I also tried the new Wave spray, which I liked, but it smells awful as the orange line in CS does (to me). Thank you, Gena, love your tips!!
Thanks very much for this. So helpful!! I had never heard of Curl Bounce and I thought Ouidad gel didn’t work because I tried the featherlight version. I have high porosity coarse textured hair so I could only get defined but dried-out hair or moisturized coils that totally frizzed out on day 2. The Ouidad gel in the red bottle you recommended worked beautifully. I actually got decent hold for several days! And a little tip for you dry hair girlies: try this gel with Curl Bounce defining butta. It’s a cream not a butter, but even more moisturizing than the clump and define cream.
Fine, low porosity hair so you got to me pretty quickly. However, I've no intention of buying such expensive hair products. I actually just bought Fructis Hyalauronic Moisture Repair for $6.97 and glad I did that instead of your suggestion because I'm not sure it's the right product for me. As a low porosity, my hair generally feels soft...my hair was much softer with this treatment BUT.... frizzy! My hair is rarely frizzy, even after 2-3 days. I can't do protein, I can't do aloe, and there's something in tgin that flash dries but not sure what it is. I've already bought more products than I can afford so may just have to come to terms with what I have, which isn't bad.
same here! still cannot find the right product for me. i like the kinky curly custard but it could be too heavy at times for me. the soufflé from CS i thought i totally was good but the aloe in it doesn’t do well in my hair in the long run and once dried. still hoping to find a good cream or better gel
This video blows my mind as I have low porosity hair, it might be the healthiest I’ve ever had it in my adult life, and my hair loves protein and just soaks it all up! I’m constantly trying to find products with more and more protein!
About the difference between a leave in and a curl cream is the density of the cream and how much more moisture it provides for your hair. If you style with a brush and coil style you can create longevity to definition with a gel, a strong hold does work best. You can add a mouse in the end to provide volume
Thanks for this video! I have medium fine hair with medium low porosity. I love being able to use your filters to determine what I need. I see that you have a 'no synthetic fragrances,' which is great. I'd love to have filters for the smell level - fragrance free, low fragrance, strong fragrance. I can't do a lot of smells, so this would help a lot. Even natural fragrances can bother me. For example, I can't do the strength line from Curlsmith because of the strong smell. Also, I would love to understand if I need protein or bond building care in my hair. My hair is dry, but it can get weighed down pretty quickly.
Thank you so much, Genia. This helped a lot. Maybe add some products, silicone free & dye free finishing products like oils or heat protectant sprays with spf. Also some products for platinum blonde hair. It has been a real chore to find them. After a while some turn my hair really brassy / orange. I’ve done violet masks however reading some of the ingredients are not that good to absorb in the body. Maybe down the road you could invent your own clean product that addresses these concerns. Again thank you so much. It takes a lot of time to do what you do. So I’m so appreciative of that. 💝
Thanks for the video Gena. Great video idea. I appreciate all the work you’ve put into this. My only suggestion would have to provide 2 options for each category at 2 different price points.
What products work for virgin, thick, coarse, low porosity hair? My daughter is a curly girl and I have straight hair, so I’m at a loss when using shampoos, conditioners, or any products on her hair. I’ve tried many different products and her hair always feels very dry, straw like.
My hair is moderately coarse, and curly and thick. It takes some time to get fully wet in the shower but after water is squeezed out it does not take very long to dry(so loses moisture).
I really need help to determine my hair. I do have fine hair and medium porosity due to a little bleaching for highlights. My hair is experiencing breakage. This was helpful.
Hi Gena … I have low porosity hair…it’s gray and wavy and course hair. What do I do? It frizzes easily and the waves come out in humidity. In winter the same happens. It gets dry after a day or two. It actually gets ver dry perhaps more than frizz
My hair doesn't get greasy often. I have to find stuff that won't weigh it down. Watching your videos has helped me look into the right things to try. Still finding things I like to use. I am really happy to be on the journey to better hair care.
I’m thick, coarse, high porosity at least on the half of my hair with old highlights. I’m growing my grey out it’s been a little over a year since I’ve had color. NotAfrican American hair. I have trouble finding anything that really holds & keeps frizz at bay. One of my go to’s is Kinky Curly curling custard. I definitely have different textures & porosities throughout. Question is Twist different because surprisingly Ouidad does nothing for my hair. I wondered if LUS would be for me or what other styling products would you recommend? You’re awesome and beautiful Gena☺️💖
3b, medium density, low porosity, fine texture. Any recommendations for an entire routine? I’m a minimal girl & my hair has a lot of definition with or without product
Hi Gena, thanks so much for this video. It’s very informative. I really appreciate you doing this about the products for which hair types. most products don’t really specify which particular hair types they are for. one thing I like to mention or ask, I did notice that in this video and some other ones you say that you have medium and coarse textured hair, but in some other videos I’ve seen you’ve mentioned that you’ve had very fine or fine hair. Does this change over time? was your hair more fine when it was not as healthy like from heat damage or color damage and then maybe changes as your hair gets healthy I’m just curious. Thanks so much again.
PLEASE HELP! I have low porosity hair and have like 2c/3b hair, The front of my hair is curly but the back back of my hair is wavy, My hair is also fine. Whenever my hair dried its kinda frizzy too… can anybody help me find the product for me… I’m struggling 🙏😭
This is such a helpful video! Thanks! I have a question about porosity... Does coloring your hair with a semi permanent hair color damage or change your hairs porosity?
Hello Genia. I am a chemo patient. I lost all my hair and it’s finally coming back in. It’s always been curly so this is not a new things for me. However, it does seem like the texture of my hair has changed. I have high porosity hair. I’ve gotten it cut a few times to cut off the high dose chemo hair. That helped. I don’t want a lot to do. I basically wash and go. The products I’ve always used no longer see to work. It seems to be straight in some places and excessively curly in others. Do you have any products that you might suggest for high porosity hair that won’t cost an arm and a leg? If something isn’t going to work I don’t want to pay a lot.
Thank you for all of the information! My biggest problem is HOLD and GRIT.. nothing gives real hold. I was using this ancient brand 3 in 1 Clairol condition mousse. They discontinued it. I have tried EVERYTHING! Nothing holds or if it holds, it holds for day 1 then that’s it. PLEASE, if you have any suggestions!
I have fine to normal hair strands and its high porosity long curly hair. Please let me know what products i should use from cleansing to gel and everything in between. I've had a lot of frizz problems!
Hello- which Bounce cream are you holding up for the Coarse- high porosity hair type? I can’t read it and the products in the description look different than what you’re holding up. Thanks!!
Hi Gena, Can you recommend a good hair spray that will help with adding some volume at the crown? I have high porosity hair and I think medium texture. Thank you so much!
Gena, would you recommend using a silicone free shampoo and conditioner or a water soluble silicone shampoo and conditioner for Low density, high porosity wavy hair?
I generally just recommend avoiding silicone in most products. For someone with high porosity hair or those dealing with humidity, it would be more useful in a sealing oil or in your gel as a finisher to help block humidity.
I have thin hair wavy and curly hair is just hard to find products my hair is dry and absorbs products so fast I style my hair by afternoon is Friezzi have to add more products
I have type 3 curly hair, low porosity, coarse hair, medium density, can you please recommend products for me,i would be very grateful if you could reply,i want something light weight strong hold and super definition
Hi! I’ve been trying to figure out my hair for so long and just was wondering if you could give me some advice. I have 2a-2b waves , I would say medium density , and thick hair. I don’t typically use heat on my hair, maybe once a month. Based off the strand of hair in a glass of water test, I have low porosity hair. my hair takes a long time to dry, water beads up on my hair, it’s easily tangled when it’s wet that it tangles even after I just brushed it. I’ve also noticed that my hair has been feeling “gummy” after washes , I don’t know if that makes any sense. However , I read that low porosity tends to have oily scalp, which is actually the exact opposite for me. It take forever for my hair to get oily. I could go a whole week without washing before I saw a glimpse of oil in my hair , so that’s was kind of confusing to me. Do you have any advice for me?
I have low porosity, curly, thin, letting it go gray, hair. I didn't know how different gray hair would be. Should I use a different product for gray hair? Thank you! 😊
I still need help my hair get wet easily it dries medium if I put gel and curling cream the next day it’s falls down I do the pineapple method when I go to sleep it still falls. I just want my curls to pop😢
I have low porosity hair, medium, and tried the LUS Sea Moss Gel, and can say it's the worst thing I've ever used! It left my hair straight and frizzy with big lumps! I had to wash it again, there was nothing I could do to save it.
I have coarse high porosity hair and and I think something to be aware of is humectants like glycerin. They open up the hair cuticle which is the opposite of what us high porosity curlies need. They leave my hair looked undefined, dry and fluffy. It’s so confusing ouidads ‘anti-humidity’ line has glycerin at the beginning of the ingredients list 🤦🏻♀️🙄 why would they do that????? I used the styling cream AND the gel though. Maybe using a glycerin free cream/leave in plus the ouidad gel would be okay but I’m hesitant
Same! I've never tried the red label Ouidad Anti Humidity gel for that reason. Their white label Anti Humidity gel is good 👍. The glycerin is further down the ingredients list.
We have to consider the entire product formulation and not just one ingredient. The gel also contains multiple polyquat ingredients which humidity proof the hair, even with glycerin present. If the gel just had glycerin and no humidity blocking ingredients, it wouldn’t work well. The glycerin is there for moisture. Whenever I use a gel that doesn’t contain glycerin, my hair gets dry by day 2. I also have high porosity hair and it’s the only one that works well in humidity and doesn’t leave my hair dry.
5 months ago I went to a hairdresser to go gray completely and stop coloring my hair. Lots of damage and my hair oxidized , so instead of staying gray it turned light brown. After spending 3 years of no heat and babying my hair to be healthy , I am back to square one😢. I have been using the k18 and it has helped, but have to wait for the damage to grow out. My hair used to suck up humidity quickly and got lots of frizz with very little tangles, now I have lots of mayor tangles, frizz and the top of my head gets wet quickly and where the damage is it takes longer to get wet, I’m guessing cause of the damage. I have been using the AG curl cream and Gel, I also use the Aveda botanicals rich mask once a week….do you think I need more protein?
What to use on hair that is dense I believe high porosity dry and dull and I want reduce my volume,I’m a senior 74 yrs old stopped dying my hair over three yrs ago so its mostly gray.Any help Thanks 😊
One thing you have wrong is that high porosity is essentially more damaged. Some people simply have high porosity hair naturally. My hair is completely healthy, virgin, never damaged and it will never be low porosity.
Can you share any literature that shows that virgin hair can be high porosity from genetics? I have researched this topic in the past and haven't found anything that explores if hair can naturally be high porosity. I have only found research on how healthy hair is level 1 porosity, and the more damage that's done to it, porosity increases. I would love to do a more in depth video on this topic. I'm curious if high porosity can be from genetics, or if it can grow out of your head high porosity from things such as diet, nutrient deficiencies, and absorbing chemicals through products, hair dye, etc. on the scalp.
@@GenaMarieNo idea about that but yes it’s 100 percent genetic. We have Nordic curls. Nordic curly hair is not like other peoples hair porosity and texture.
Nope it could also be medium porosity! Low porosity can be dry because it doesn’t let moisture in. I’ve also heard a how some people are “naturally” high porosity due to nutrient deficiencies or other internal factors. I’m doing more research on this at the moment though.

Nope, the only thing with gray hair is it can be a little bit more tangle and more dry. Lightweight oils can help
Would you consider grey hair high porosity due to lack of pigment?

I have low porosity hair, medium, and tried the LUS Sea Moss Gel, and can say it's the worst thing I've
ever used! It left my hair straight and frizzy with big lumps! I had to wash it again, there was nothing I could do to save it.
I have a very dry frizzy hair and now weak. Any styling product I use, it will end a oily scalp and dry end hair
Apparently the twist by ouidad line is being discontinued 😢
incredibly impressive.
It sounds like you’re probably getting enough protein. You’re also using K 18 which is great for restoring the hair
What to use on hair that is dense I believe high porosity dry and dull and I want reduce my volume,I’m a senior 74 yrs old stopped dying my hair over three yrs ago so its mostly gray.Any help Thanks 😊
😂😂😂 my low porosity hair LOVES PROTEIN!
I.have low Porosity thin hair what can l use it doesn't curl anymore and hard to moisturize
Wat are the best products for thick coarse dry curly hair
Is shea moisture manuka honey and yogurt shampoo and conditioner good for low porosity, fine hair?
Anything shea moisture is too heavy for this hair type in my opinion. Maybe their light blue label line which is a little lighter weight
@@GenaMarie can you mention the name of the light blue line shampoo and conditioner please..
I have type 3 C curls aka like cork screw. What to use?
I have no idea what my porosity is but since I don’t heat style or dye it , isn’t it safe to assume it’s just low porosity? Idk 🤷🏼
Nope it could also be medium porosity! Low porosity can be dry because it doesn’t let moisture in. I’ve also heard a how some people are “naturally” high porosity due to nutrient deficiencies or other internal factors. I’m doing more research on this at the moment though.
low porosity hair is very prone to frizz?
u r the best
No mousse?
For thin and low pos. A light leave in Guovani lightweight leave in and a gel or a mouse. That's mine
Hi!! I know you left this comment a while ago, but wondering which gel and which mousse you use? I also have fine and low porosity hair and struggling lol thank you!

I have super thick, corse, curly hair. It frizzes really easy
I have gray wavy low porosity hair that is course …I’m using kinky curly leave in conditioner with not your mothers curl cream and kinky curly custard gel . When humid it looses the wave and gets very dry after a few days
I have fine texture, low porosity hair . 3b, 3c just for reference 😊I love styling my fine curly hair with the as I am leave detangler, (sometimes I add a bit of the sheamoisture restorative leave in conditioner if my hair feels dry) Not your mother's combing curly cream and I top it off with a little bit of Not your mother's super hold gel mixed with water.
