Yes, they do overheat. I think some advanced Warn winches have a setting that will shut them down when they get too hot, though you can override that with a setting. I think this winch has a continuous duty cycle of around 2 minutes. However, I just run it till it's too hot to touch. We have air temperatures of 50°C here in the summer, so it's pretty difficult not to exceed the equipment ratings. Basically, a winch is a consumable, I go through a winch every couple of years.
Nice rescue! Perhaps could have initial pull at ~~30 degrees, shovel sand to reduce acuity of the hump. I would have concerns about frame damage to the Ram with the straight over-the-hump pull. When the truck starts going over the hump, the heavier front end has a very long lever arm and stresses the frame severely. Greetings from the Great White North - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
@18:30 Now they accidentally put it into forward instead of reverse....... Oops. (Big smile)..... Hey, I was wondering why the people did not dig out the top of the slope a bit, to ease the winch tension when the truck neared the top. Prohibited or environmentally unsound? Something else? I have had a tow much like this and we did that before starting.
The angle of the truck to the cruiser makes the winch pull the truck down into the sand not up on top of it. Positioning the cruiser with its nose hanging off more would have helped lift it up out of the sand more, no?
It looks like a beautiful day. The colors of the water really pop with the sand color. Dodge Ram truck. You would never see this with a camel, even if the rider was drunk.
Before the point where the truck got high centered, you could have disconnected the snatch block from the rear of the truck and fed it under the truck all the way to a point on the very front of the frame. This would have allowed you to pull it up the rest of the way past the point of getting high centered without the need of a second winch/truck. The reason is because once the rear bumper was up in the air, you are pulling the truck down against the very sand that you’re trying to get past. By feeding the cable to the front of the truck, the cable gets lowered, it follows the terrain and angles down the slope to the front of the truck so it pulls the truck “UP” and back instead of “DOWN” and back. We tend to get stuck thinking that we have to pull from the nearest point of the vehicle, but in some instances, it makes sense to get connected to the other end, in this case, the front end.
I love all these comments from guys suggesting how you could have done a better job! You were the guys on the spot. You did a great job. By the way, where are the Land Rovers?

No tire tracks to the edge at all in the start. Or at the start if the down hill. It was like they launched and landed on one spot before the water but no idea how not slid into it. There was no sand piled in the front down hill side of the tires either like it heald it in place. Very strange.

To all those remarking about "WHY" would anyone put themselves in this situation. It's more common than one may think. When approaching a dune at a low angle, the other side, which is much steeper, is not visible until you are on the other side of the crest. This spot is particularly treacherous as the land on the other side of the waterbody has a raised terrain, which is visible much before you reach the crest. This causes the driver to falsely assume that there is no waterbody on the otherside. Low lighting may further increase the risk as the water isn't visible until it's too late. This spot has several instances of cars being stuck in this position. To prevent this reflective road markers have been positioned leading to crest. You can spot them in the video. However, this too doesn't suffice. The desert is a deceptive place, even for those with experience. I've seen several well experienced people do something seemingly stupid, until I was confronted with a similar situation. The desert has no place for complacency. Heading to the desert can be a humbling and learning experience provided one is up for it.

Once you had the truck at the top of the hill you should have run the winch cable under the truck to a front axel that way you wouldn't be pulling the truck into the sand as the back is upright also keep away from them cables well done.
There is a hole through the bumper that gives access to a tow point, directly through a chassis member, which sits inside the bumper. There was no load on the bumper.

No tire tracks to the edge at all in the start. Or at the start if the down hill. It was like they launched and landed on one spot before the water but no idea how not slid into it. There was no sand piled in the front down hill side of the tires either like it heald it in place. Very strange.
I’ve seen stock land cruisers out SUV lifted jeeps with monster tires and all sorts of “off road vehicles”. Those things are billy goats. Straight beasts in off road environments
Nice to be popular. Nice Bit of fish and coffee with the lads sounds great.
Great work! Triple winching might also be worth considering in such a situation.
They should have let the tyres down a bit on the bakkie.
Awesome, never seen anything like that. Driver , from now on, look where you are going!
The Qatar Sand Man does it again 👏👏👏
What a great recovery....from new york
Thank you
two beautiful pearl white land cruisers with livery, awesome
and always a good day when the local sheik shows up
also my gta5 character looks like your cameraman
why ? thats all i want to know is why anyone would go down that sand bank why ?
this seems to be like an impossible recovery gr8 job
They should have dug out a ramp at the top!
Curious to know, how does the RAM come into this situation….?
you will miss that LC when you go back to your country eventually.. i would love to ship mine back to Canada but ministry of transportation there will make it tough.., will enjoy it for now in Qatar
They really are great vehicles, my familys owned landcruisers for many many years here in australia. They are workhorses that with a little (oil filter and care) last generations. I wasnt a big fan until i had been through a few Fords, GMs and other euro trash, Now id never buy anything else. Toyota or lexus for me.
Buen contenido, saludos desde Ecuador. Manabi
Thank you
Videos and photos always make it seem less steep
Once you had the truck at the top of the hill you should have run the winch cable under the truck to a front axel that way you wouldn't be pulling the truck into the sand as the back is upright also keep away from them cables well done.
Thank you. We don't use cables.
Very surprised bumper didn't rip off
There is a hole through the bumper that gives access to a tow point, directly through a chassis member, which sits inside the bumper. There was no load on the bumper.
Good work boys, I think digging the top of the peak down could have helped thst problem at the end?
It's definitely a Darwin award candidate!
Giving it a little ingenuity goes along way
Great work everyone!
Can't help but think a pair of maxxtrax under the ram would've helped here, at least to pop it out of where it was stuck. Maybe I'm under thinking it...
once the truck was high centered its easier to hook up around the axle
Good job, everyone. That's a heck of a pull up
Because this is in Qatar ....and he's driving a Dodge .....he was tying to deep 6 it but it broke down
Floor mats under the tires work nicely!
13:35 Isn’t the Cruiser V8 ? Sounds like V6.
This one is a V8, there are V6's around.
I love when Big Sand touch water
Not sure how I got here but good work!
Thank you
Wow nice work ,, i didnt think it would come up that hill.
Thank you
Did he let the air out of the tires? That would help.
Nice recovery! Qatar looks like a great place to live….
Thank you, it gets some bad press, but generally it's good
I’m curious what type of winch he has installed on his Land Cruiser
Superwinch Talon 12.5 SR
Don't ever winch with out something with weight over the cable in case it breaks
We never use cable. We use synthetic Rope. It doesn't stretch and has little mass, therefore stores very little energy. Have snapped a few.
off roaders are always willing to help others who enjoy offroading
Holy ravioli, that winch must be smokin hot !!! It's also weird to see Cruisers with no bull bar, driving lights, antennas, tail gates, side steps etc. !!! 😮
Because the one in this video is not a mall crawler. People in the USA install all that crap to look "cool' and to "show off", "look what I got"....
Is this Matt's Off Road Recovery of Qatar?
That was probably one hell of a ride just dropping off the top of that but I'm surprised the truck even stopped before it hit the water 😲🤘🤙
What an amazing recovery
Is it safe to be so close to the line during the pull? If the line goes loose somehow then you might get seriously hurt if it hits you
Thank you for your concern. We use synthetic winch line. It's very light and does not stretch, therefore very little stored energy, doesn't behave like steel cable. We have snapped a few it doesn't whip.
@@QatarSandMan good to know, glad it's safe!
What winch are you running on tue Landcruiser?
@discoveringwa2204
Superwinch Talon 12.5 Si.
12,500 Ib, synthetic rope integrated solenoid bridge. 60 ft minute no load line speed. I think it is discontinued now, which is a shame, as I have abused it for a while and it just keeps going.
Did you miss your turn?
