- Private security began to bike through downtown Long Beach this week, in an effort to provide an extra layer of security for businesses and residents in the area. Michele Gile reports.
Ha! I almost choked on my coffee. Yeah, crime will go way down with unarmed min. wage security and "ambassadors." Just look at downtown Santa Monica, and see how well that works, 👎

Not a bad start , hopefully it goes well.
what they can do is help enforce the soliciting laws. keep the sidewalks clear of people who think they can just hang out. generally police can't be everywhere, but security like these can be foots on the ground to be on front lines to help with the problems. basically assist police without being the police kind. like community watch, or watch dogs to help enforce and educate and warn about the rules and to help keep the place cleaner or people clogging things up.
They learned from Beverly Hills.
Hire at-will security guards, so you can hire and fire more or less guards depending on the crime in tourist areas.

Staffing shortage.
Paying overtime costs more than hiring a regular officer and paying them the base pay.
Don’t believe me, look at Walmart and all the big businesses that try their hardest to cut expenses. They refuse to have workers do overtime and will spend millions more on recruiting instead of 10 million in paying overtime.
