As a Security professional, it makes zero sense that the security company banned him from the Lowe's parking lot when he had an agreement with Lowe's to be there. As a security company, you follow the client's lead in enforcing policy. In this case, Lowe's. The client is the one paying the security company. The confrontation never should have happened. That's one. Two, most jurisdictions require security personnel to get an Armed Guard license if they plan to carry a weapon. Also, you need to clear that with the client. For most, they don't want armed guards on the property for liability reasons. You can't just carry a weapon when on the job. Three, obviously the deceased man isn't a completely harmless/innocent victim. Realistically there was an angry/violent confrontation between the two men that got far out of hand.

I'm a armed security officer too, FDACS.gov . Since 2000. I can tell you, since 2015 or so, more officers, firms use dash mounted 📹 or body cams. People often lie, make threats or distort things. Police 🚔 or sheriffs show up & then talk to random crowds, by standers. Never the 911 ☎️ callers or security. If you work armed, train & know the laws, lethal force standards. Avoid places that serve alcohol 🍷🍸🍺. Avoid hotels, apts 🏘 or HOAs. Everything you say or do is wrong. The guests or residents will nitpick any problem. Lie to mgrs.

The other is not carrying a firearm on duty if you do not have an armed security license and have not been hired as an armed security officer.
This idiot should have let them leave, and if they refused to leave, back away and inform them that you are calling law enforcement to have them removed. He put himself in a position that escalated this entire encounter into what it turned into.

Car almost killed him first. Did you catch that? BUT... BOTH were at fault! One tried to murder with a car (and his wifes door open even) and others were not allowed a gun and provoked because he fired pepper spray first. So, the guard instigated by bringing firearm and spraying, thus the charge of 2nd not first. It would be first if he had not been almost run over first. And the other guy wasn't in his right to try to drive over him. Had he lived, he would have faced attempted murder & assault with deadly weapon (car) or if succeded he would have had murder 1st. He should have waited for his wife to call cops. And guard should have just called the cops and not accosted. BOTH at fault. But they had tresspassed many times and ultimately paid for it with his life. Foolish to go back, foolish to spray and not have permit to carry. Society is nuts.

Here's a copy & paste from Oregon DPSST: "Person in charge means a person, representative or employee of the person who has lawful control of premises by ownership, tenancy, official position or other legal relationship. It includes but is not limited to, the person, or holder of a position, designated as the person or

I knew the Security Guard who is the subject of this story. My girlfriend, who works nights at a hotel just feet away from where this incident occurred. The company which held contracts with many businesses in that area to provide security, is responsible for the guy carrying a firearm, because they promised an armed response ny their guards. I observed numerous guards who had sidearms on the utility belts, in a holster, just like uniformed Portland Police officers carry on their hips. I immediately heard about this incident from other guards who would congregate at the hotel, where my girl would summon security to check on people who'd been involved in whatever misconduct (drug use, prostitution, etc) and been required to leave the premises, every time they rolled up in at least two cars, which appeared identicle to Portland police unmarked cars, their uniforms looked identicle to the former PPB uniforms, and they were each armed with sidearms, which I can only say could have been real firearms but also could have been airsoft pistols as well. I'm certain that the company chose the vehicles and the appearance of their employees to appear as closely to Portland police officers as possible. They should be held responsible for the death and sued for everything they've got.

The murderer obviously takes the most responsibility and I'm glad he got the maximum sentence. But the victim's family should at the very least sue the security company for being so lax that they never noticed the murderer was carrying a real firearm for years. But they could be criminally liable too. But yeah they at least deserve a big payout, the victim's family. It won't do anything for the pain they feel, but they still deserve some compensation. that security guard messed up big time.
nelson went forward with truck, backed up in reverse. all the while the security guard had his gun drawn and aimed at nelson. then nelson gives him the middle finger and turned his wheel to the right he accelerated slowly and then this frigging guy fired like three shots straight through the windshield. and the misses who was with him was on the passenger side of the vehicle outside standing watching the whole thing up close.
this guy is gonna be in his mid fifties when he gets out maybe sooner than that. hes gonna get to live and enjoy life. nelson isnt. its messed up. no humor here.

The only instance where force may be permissible is when the guard's life or the lives of another person might be in danger. Otherwise, the local police should be called to handle any situation.
