Hey Des, have you guys run into many D40's with out of spec valve clearances. Just did mine and the worst were 18,17,16,15,15,8 thou. My ute has done 110,000km. Definitely doesn't look like it's ever had a head job or any work etc. I'm surprised how bad the clearances are from factory. It's Thai built. I swapped shims around and managed to correct the worst of it but there was only so much I could do with what I had, it's still not perfect. Seems quieter and running better. I rang Nissan and they had no shims in stock (order from Japan only)
We set our's at 12/14 thou I can get new shimms

Workshop manual says from 9 to13 thou for intake and 10-13 thou for exhaust.
My D40's clearances are quite poor for only having done 100,000km. Exhaust clearances as much as 18thou and intake as low as 8 thou, with all sorts inbetween. If the top end is that bad it really makes me question the bottom end.
What type of YD25 Head is that? I bought a new head for my YD25 exactly like the one you have there but it's different from my old damaged one, the old one has 4 hole and the new one like yours has 8, will it still fit.

hello .cylinder head was skimmed.
there is 6 types of head gasket. do I need same as was before skimming or I need to find something else . there is some cuts on a corner mine have 3 in cuts.

And i have an other question when you replacing engine seal (all of it) should you remove the engine or can you remove the engine head And take it from there????????

How to say you
The manual says you need to put engine at tdc and check valve clearance not the way you showed. You check valve clearance on row 1,2,3 and 6 (first cam lobes turned sideways not upward). Then rotate crankshaft clockwise by one turn to set the No. 4 piston
to TDC on the compression stroke. And check valve clearance on row 4, 5, 7 and 8. This video just proved that you are not a proffesional engine rebuild specialist. You only put cam up when you replace the shims with a specialised tool, not for checking the valve clearance.
How the guy who works on this engines for 20 years can't properly do valve clearance is beyond me.

the manual might say do it X way. but if you are a reputable enough business willing to post their vids on youtube, you would think that maybe that they had done it before
