Fwiw, i sold my F900XR to buy a new Transalp. I found the BMW very top heavy, incredibly slow steering even compared to the 21" front on the honda. The BMW has a 29.5° degree steering head angle. It's dead slow. The stock seat is a device of torture and the stock Honda seat is still better than the $700aud BMW comfort seat. The fairing/screen on the honda is way better than the taller BMW option screen and even after fitting an even taller wunderlich touring screen, the Honda is smoother and quiter. The BMW has a little more torque under 4k, but the honda motor from there on is a match. But the Honda motor is mechanically quieter and has a better exhaust note. A match to the BMW even with the $1800 SCproject exhaust I fitted to the BMW. Not much in it suspension wise. The BMW is plusher initially, but then firms up and becomes harsh. The honda doesn't absorb small pimples as well, but is nicer through the middle of the stroke. The BMW brakes are better. The Honda uses 1 litre per hundred less fuel at highway speeds, but when upping it, the Honda uses way less. There's only two things I miss that the BMW had. 1. Cruise control....but I'm going to fit a Veridian ($299USD) which is plug and play. 2. An ambient temp gauge, but again I'm getting one that plugs into the accessory power socket. I also had a few issues with the BMW... Fuel gauge sender failed, clutch noise which was never resolved, two BMW dealer errors that were dangerous and the fork seals and bushes wore out in 15,000klms. Hopefully this offers those comparing an owners perspective.
Nope, comparing a Grom with a Goldwing is a tad “remote” but even they have two wheels to counter-steer, an engine that consumes petrol and both equally serve as an escape from whatever is being escaped.
Footpeg position, like windshield height, are totally dependant on how tall a person is. I'm 5 foot 7 and the slightly forward pegs on the Honda are perfectly out of the way for me. The "normal" peg position of other bikes are positioned exactly where I place my feet. I enjoy comparisons between bikes, but I have to agree with other comments that these bikes are not designed as competitors, although power and size may be similar.
Good comparison, I'm looking at charging my Versys 650, the fashion seems to be for more adventure bike styling from the manufacturers. Ive been wondering about going old school, looking at a sports tourer as I'm getting older the height of the bike os becoming quite an issue. Im probably going to save myself £5k and look at either a Triumph 1050 Sprint ST or a Honda VFR800. Either of the bikes tested seem more of the same.
I rode both bikes. The test ride of the Transalp will be ready still in October. In my opinion both bikes are good, but both have also some downsides. To be honest, both seats were quite good for me. :) Great video mate. Enjoyed it. I agree about the power difference. The main difference is also in the front wheel... :) Drop by to check my BMW F900xr test ride. :)
had the 900 xr a sort while; a road bike only. full features. Nice. too nice for our local traffic but the passenger seat is NOT comfy; options to add another would be nice.
@@averagebiker they have just kept it and paid off the PCP at the end of 3 years as they still love it, didn’t think worth paying to upgrade to the V2, so saved money in the longer term.
What about gsxs1000 gt suspension travel for bumpy paved roads? How much travel? Turns out to be a big deal as I have heard from regular travelers. Need at least 10 inches or close to it for paved roads.
@@averagebiker I said 10 inches meant 7 inches of travel. There are a lot of rough paved roads. Gets tiring after a while if suspension is not appropriate. Also good to have cruise control.
If Honda XL750 Transalp receives suspension improvement, would the ride be much more acceptable? I live in Thailand, and will inquire with YSS_SUSPENSION Thailand if they have plan to introduce improvement kits. The price of XL750 Transalp is more acceptable, and I don't need more power. It's the handling on rutted roads that I'm more concerned with.

The BMW and Transalp are not remotely comparable.
He didn’t say they were. He was weighing up two bikes he was interested in buying and comparing the value each offered to him.
I would consider either of them myself. I would prefer the transalp with 19/17 or 17/17 the bmw is around £10k the power is very similar.

@@UncleWally3 I really don't like the GOLDWING or the grom. 2 wheels and an engine are the only thing they do share
@@chrishart8548 Did you ride the Transalp ? You don't feel the 21" frontwheel. All testers were really surprised about the handling. ;-)

Excellent production, easy viewing ❤
You compare apples and oranges...Different bikes for different purpose
Yep, but they're both about 10k and both good at distance riding which is why I tested them 🙂
Is it a "orange anf apple", or rather a "crap and quality" comparison, thouhh?

Which bike has good quiet wind protection?
Friend went with the Ducati 950 after trying the 900 XR and the Multistrada was more sporty, did pick the low seat option.
Yeah, I tested one a couple of weeks ago - excellent bike, just a bit too expensive

Good review, very informative.
can it be lowered for seat 800mm ? smallerfront tire ?
Nice Bike you got.
What does the BMW cost? It looks really nice.
depends on country
What about the Suzuki gsxs1000 gt?
It is a lot different. The engine is a 4 cyl... just to mention. :) Drop by mate, you may like my content.
passenger foot pegs can be lowered 5 cm easily Why put them hi for passenger ????

The Transalp went over speed bumps really easily if that helps

I ve read reviews that this bmw has a heavy feeling in the front in the twisties.did you feel that?
No, but that sounds like the sort of thing more sophisticated riders than me notice. I found the handing really good, particularly for a heavy bike
Put a 500x seat on the 750gs, for comfort
Nice video ❤
just heard about this channel on the live stream with prestige reef
how many more channel do you have ??

900xr has it all for on-road rides. Seating could be better

Not for my tastes - it's an adventure bike at the end of the day so it'll always be a compromise on the road.
First time I've heard someone recommend ear plugs when riding a particular bike o_0
Thanks, no honda for me😅
Uncomparable. Thx anyway

You should have a look at the Suzuki VSTROM 800DE. I reckon it might kick both of these into touch.
I tested the V-Strom 1050 and really Didn't like it and by that point I was tired of test rides!
