Damn, for some reason, in my head I always thought the Ford Explorer seen in the movie was the 2nd gen Ford Explorer. I guess since it was '93 that wouldn't make sense. I do remember Jurassic Park help fueling the SUV boom of the 90's. In high school, I was in the love with the Explorer, 4runner, and Pathfinder. 4 Runner was always my favorite, and I still think the '95-'99 4 Runners stills holds up when it comes to exterior aesthetics today. I would argue that it looks much nicer than the designs that followed it.
It's fine for a movie and this is in no way a knock against the work done for the movie props, but if these were being built for a real park I don't feel it's unreasonable to assume more R&D would have been done. I've been taking a bit of license with my build as well, changing things to look or work better under scrutiny.
