Gigabyte's OC RTX 4070 Super is DIFFERENT.... in a good way!

- Reviewing the RTX 4070 Super Gigabyte Windforce OC shows that it has an OC, however it does so without raising the power consumption, it also has the windforce OC edition that comes in the same price point as MSRP ($599), Today we have the Gaming OC and we test it, vs the RX 7800 XT and Super FE edition.

It's a great day for a new tech video!
Great vid! I usually shy away from OC models because as you said they just crank up the power consumption for a couple frames. By the way, you do a great job in discussing current financial situations, def have a knack for it and always watch those.
I've got this card in the Eagle white trim on its way. Excited to start my new build!
Nice! Im gonna order mine tomorrow from Amazon. Where did you order yours from?
Me to $599.00 I was going to get 7900gre $549.00 . I'll pay $50 and get 4 years warranty. Protect my $$$.
Love your videos! I just had a question, why doesn't anyone include the 3080 in the charts anymore? It would be helpful to see how it compares to the gpu I have.
Great vid m8! Would like to have seen it against the 470ti super only because the non 4070ti super has stopped being made. I might be wrong about that but that's how I understand it as of now. No shade m8.
Back in 2015 or so I used a guide of yours to build an amazing 1440p gaming pc. It has been going strong with zero problems, but now the 970 graphics card is having a hard time keeping up with the new games. This may be a dumb question, but when upgrading graphics cards, do cpu/motherboards generally need to be upgraded as well?
From my understanding you may need to. Usually it's best to check what motherboards and CPU's run together with the 4070 super and you'll find info on it.
I'm on the fence if to order all the new parts to build one from scratch with a i5 12600k and RTX 4079 super or order one built by one of a couple of trusted companies.
Worked out my build would cost about £147 more getting it built for me. (£47 if you don't include windows) So I'm tempted tog et it built for me. Lol
Hey,
If your PC is from 2015, chances are you have a CPU and motherboard from around that period. So, if you're thinking about upgrading to the 40 series, I'd suggest building a new PC. You'll likely need to replace most of the parts anyway.
Just getting an RTX 4070 Super and using it with your 2015 components might not give you the best performance. It could end up being bottlenecked and not work as effectively.
I still have a 4070 from last year. I'm think I'm going to wait until the 5000 series.
As an itx builder I’d love to see an itx single fan model of the regular RTX 4070 even if it had ~70c temps under load!
Why single fan cards suck? The regular 4070 sucks also it’s slower than a 3080 10gb. It also has memory bandwidth problems due to its small bus size and not enough L2 cache to feed it for 1440p gaming.
@@ZackSNetworkHe’s an ITX builder so that’s why he wants an ITX card hope that helps
IF the coldplates were compatible you could get a single fan 4060Ti and swap the coolers with a 4070. It should run around 70C load, just loud fan
I know someone that installed a 4070FE cooler on a 4080FE. Ran a bit warm and loud, but ran.
Watercooling GPU better for itx
Hey Brian, love your economics videos. Could you also go over Euro inflation numbers in your upcoming video, for your EU audience?
Weirdly the card you are recommending looks like the Gaming OC and not the Windforce OC based on images on Newegg and Amazon.
It’s is, according to the boost clock numbers. Pic means nothing except typo. There’s 3 OC models so mistakes can be made regarding images shown for YT purposes.
Gaming oc is much better than the windforce, runs very cool.
how would 4070 super overclocked stack up against 7900 gre overclocked after latest driver update !!!??
I actually "pre-ordered" this card because I found it at €640 (it's now €680). Was very happy with that - cheapest 4070S card in my buying region! Looking forward to comparing this to the 3070 and 4070 at iso-clocks to see how the SMs and other functionality scales!
It's also a bonus for me that there's no RGB. I hate that stuff!
PNY Verto can be quite hot.
Probably within acceptable parameters, but reviewers typically have above or well above average airflow configurations.
I fear that it might go A LOT higher with users ignorant of the importance of good airflow configuration.
How's it going with the a overclock the gigabyte 3070 oc did well as
are you talking about the Windforce model ?
Are you using the gaming oc model in the benchmarks? That is not an msrp model, the windforce oc is, it uses a different cooling solution that is worse than the gaming oc model.
Would be even better of it had the standard 8pin power connectors with proper safety margins. Especially considering that it's undervolted.
Just bought this gpu today, waiting on Monday to arrive :D
how did it go?
@@rpg4264 you would not believe it. Ordered it...the package was lost by Amazon. I waited 20 days, then I could not wait anymore, no gpu no money ,so I have purchased used 3060ti for 210 euros. 10 days later I got my refund. And now I am really happy with 3060ti plus left 400 eur in my pocket.
Let's hope its mounting notch not cracking anymore lol
difference between this windforce oc and the gaming oc?
Gaming OC has higher clocks, bigger fan fins, and RGB on the Gigabyte Logo and Halo RGB on the fans. It's also chunkier so the heat dissipation is better
Gaming oc is much better, windforce is the budget version
It'd be cool to understand how good/bad the dual fan 4070 super/super ti cards are
~80 C degree hotspot and worse noise than any 3-fan variants. I have not seen any review to consider a dual fan from any of these. Check techpowerup reviews, quite detailed testing on noise and thermals.
Can you show how to make a safe undervolt from this manufacturer? Please
from a 3070ti how much of a perfomance increase is it? With being able to get 300 for my 3070ti. Paying an extra 300 for the super. Is it worth it? Esentially 300 for a 4070 super
Dont waste your money lol, why would you upgrade just 1 gen? W8 atleast for 5 series
@@savitarr1162wait for the 6XXX series.
Second generations are always better
Just wait for the 7 series at this point bro
You are showing the gaming OC model not the windforce at MSRP.
I'm curious. How many FPS difference between Gaming and Windforce?
Make sure you keep your receipt to claim infamous gigashiet warranty.
Their most common issue, PCB cracking, is denied under warranty. I wouldn't worry about claiming their warranty...just see if you can still buy one new and return the defected one under the new receipt. (a fraud gigabyte deserves for denying warranty on their own design deficiency)
Great card, if only it costed slightly less!
Nice one Tech Yes, what a lovely gpu by Gigabyte, they winning 4sure.
need that 100 filp up lol
2 watt difference in total system power consumption is pretty negligible. This as a main aspect for this card vs the founders edition in particular does not persuade me.
I have this, i have a good case, and never goes higher than 60-65C... and it's dead silent...
Personally i went for a 4070s aorus master and can't be happier, it runs quiet and never seen the card go above 48c° (crazy i know), if overclocked can run like a 4070Ti and for how high these cards are going for over here it was a "good deal" (700€), never had problems with gigabyte, can't say the same about asus.
I didn't have an option to grab Gigabyte's example at the store but did snag a Asus Dual oc. An absolute banger of a GPU for 1440p ultra settings. I do like the Windforce oc version and my friend's RTX 2070 is still going strong since 2018. Thanks Brian for the review.
Just got an Asus Dual Super 4070 and the coil whine is terrible. Trying to return it and probably grab one of thee Gigabytes given their better rep for coil whine.
@@NeilAFawcettIt's unfortunate and saddens me to hear about your troubles. Sounds like you got a bad example. Just grab another? It's basically luck of the draw. If not available then get the Gigabyte version? The thing is about coil wine, is that no manufacturer is immune from it. Good luck on finding your happy medium. Peace!
@@Obie327Ordered a Gigabyte Gaming 4070 Super OC as a replacement. Fingers crossed no bad coil whine...
@@NeilAFawcetthi , i got an asus dual 4070 super and i have coil whine , what do u suggest me to do ?
The coil whine on mine was bad. When running Red Dead Redemption 2, even with vsync, I could hear it from the other side of the room. The pitch would change too according to the scene.
I returned it for a Gainwood. It makes an identical sound, only much much quieter. Ie: Can hardly hear it unless I put my ear towards the case.
i would buy it but it migth explode
perhaps buy asus but if you upgate bios you will end without warranty
what other options do we have? not many, it is so easy to be negative these days
Not buying a GPU because "it might explode" is kind of like not going into a car because "it might crash". Yet the vast majority of people would still pick the car and be willing to put their lives at risk.
@@Krenisphia you didnt got the joke, the fukin gigabyte exploding psus left gigabyte wity a bad reputation, perhaps you didnt heard about that but their psus literally exploded, your comment, well...
So how is it different now?
a generic cooler that exists like this for at least a decade on a generic reference PCB.
Well its a different kind of OC at MSRP, so nothing crazy different, but still a solid welcome from gigabyte.
Grasping at straws for views that's all basically
This is a gaming oc model from gigabyte and not the model With msrp Brian
Here that cost minimum 700€, so its stupid expensive. Best price for that card is like 450-500€.
I have a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 and I had a Gaming OC 4070Ti as well (sold it though) and both were great. They don't seem to sell as well as other brands and I am honestly not sure why and in fact the Gaming OC 4090 was pretty much the only one not sold out when the 4090 first came out so it was what I got instead of the MSI Gaming X version I was after. But I honestly cant understand why people seem to avoid Gigabyte RTX cards in general?!
Mi 3070 gigabyte has been doing great as well.
Read some other comments on this video that were talking about how bad Gigabyte’s customer service is bad
got this yesterday. easily hits 2890mhz boost clock without even overclocking manually.
It also uses the rtx 4070 ti Super PCB, so i can boost the power limit to 320watt to manually overclock even higher.
Memory clock can be overclocked to +1600 MHz easily
I keep getting crashes on some games. I've played through RE4, RDR2, helldivers. Etc.
Had a few crashes on dragons dogma but forbidden west is terrible for it. I get pure artifacts on the screen and full hard crash.
Are you not experiencing any crashes with the clock going that high.😊
@@thedarkriddler7318 YOU SHOULD GET A REFUND OR A REPLACEMENT. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG WITH YOUR CARD
Windforce ?
@@francisplourde2277 Gaming OC
After playing with the 4080 (non super) the 4070ti super and the 4070 super, I agree with you, the 4070 super was MUCH better then I could have guessed, and it has a TON of overclocking headroom. The 4070ti super was not BAD but it was kind of like meh, and as far as gaming the 4080 super wins the best "halo value" prop if that is even a thing... I have not actually used one per say but they are so close to a 4080 that if you have used a 4080, then you know what a 4080 super can do....which is kind of a letdown but at least they priced it correctly. The 4070ti super should have been 750 IMO
Gigabyte RTXs. Those are the ones with many, many instances of board breaking where the PCIe latches, and if sent to warranty it returns with a red arrow sticker pointing the crack, and a service denial for "misuse". No thanks!
Love the channel though, don´t get me wrong. The card can be good in numbers/performance/cost, but that brand warranty response has been notoriously bad diching their customers, and they have to be accountable. (as Asus with AM5 motherboards, not saying Gigabyte is the only one)
Where i live gpus should cost 40% less than they are just too much for import and tax garbage
Compared to zotac how is gigabyte?
have a nice day and a blessed tech hustle weekend fellow flippers, soon I will start my "flipping to get a new truck" journey.
does this card come with dual vbios 👀
no
does this have 2 HDMI ports?
yes
Why suddenly many techtuber upload 4070 super review at the same time , isn't this card a month old.
Oh i had this card for a few weeks, been meaning to review it earlier, just didn't get around to it.
Dude holds 4070 super with one hand like it's a book and not an expensive graphics card
undervolt magic and overclocking, this is the channel is all about
Where I live, it's close to $750.
too much
better then $830
$750 minimum.
I think Gigabyte is going on my personal blacklist for gpu's
The fact that my 3060 12gb ,, eagle oc " didnt have a proper cooling schedule and it was just ,, its 60'c lets go 100%! " is just criminal
They just dont care, do it yourself rhetoric is not a thing
eagle is cheap cooler use gaming OC or aero
@@robertdelacruz7920 thats not the point, the cooling is fine, just no cooling schedule thats just lazy and horrible for the cooling
I made a better schedule in 5 minutes using msi afterburner but i bet there are milions of users with this garbage schedule, it is loud and pointless.
At this point im thinking they did this on purpose to break the fans after warranty and get more $$$
It's sad that it only has 12gb
Vram
Lmao until the pcb cracks and they fuck you over on the warranty
Imagine if all cards had the same $ per fps 😂
7900 GRE is even better value than 7800 XT. It's even cheaper than 7800 XT where I live
Gigabyte has a 200mm 4070
why is the heatsink so huge... so pointless
its 930dls here.
Gigabyte is cooking with these generation GPU, the last gen tho 💀☠️. Btw Brian, can you ban some of those porn bot ?, it's getting annoying + they are everywhere ( they are in Instagram comment's+ story ) ☠️💀.
Will do.
Just 12GB, deal killer. Trouble is that the ti super is really bad value.
The entire 4000 series is DOA
12gb is more than enough for almost anything you could reasonably want to do with a 4070. You're just whining.
@@Wobbothe3rd Its fine until 1440p, but 4K its going to be a no go. 16GB is needed for 4K.
@@Wobbothe3rd your just intellectually challenged. Seriously.
Time and time again benchmarks keep proving that which model of GPU you get doesn't affect the performance at all and the OC tag is a joke, and yet people keep believing their markup on premium graphics card models are justified.
I am a little disappointed, really hoped that someone made these cards with the good old 8-pin power. But I guess Nvidia gotta Nvidia
baldur`s gate 3 4070 1440p 88 fps...????? i paly all game 100/115 and over. 88 fps 4070 to 114 fps 4070 super is 29,55% no sense
7800xt still better per buck $
just a reminder raytracing is a 5,5 y.o. technology and "modern' overpriced af cards still can't even run it on budget $200 1440p 165-180Hz monitors even with upscale and glitchy fake frames on.
Thank you for making "Brand video" instead of just saying 4070 super but not telling which model xD
Cause buyers are mostly looking for brand service and price based pick decisions too with performance.
2:00 you really tried hard to make those charts unreadable. You start with a flashing light so your eyes have to readjust. Then you have a moving blurry background to make it hard for eyes to see where to focus. Then you use black and white text which your eyes can't see at the same time so you have to adjust for each row to first read the graphics card and then the FPS counter. Then you use bright green and dim faded red to create another point where your eyes have to readjust to the bright green and then to the dim red. And you did this per game so you had maximum effect.
YES OC!
GIGABYTE is known for a shitty fans so they are usually louder, good price tho.
Tech YES City is different....in a good way!
Gigabyte has a bad name with pcb cracking!!!
Gigabyte you say,
Are you aware of the rumored higher numbers of gigabyte branded gpus having pcb related issues?
I've heard that mentioned by a dedicated gpu repair channel. Something along the lines of "Yet another Gigabyte having issues on the pcb".. or similar wording.
Personally, I wouldn't touch gigabyte 40 series gpu, even second hand "deals".
I just say no to Gigabyte.
I hear they reject RMAs because they feel liek it
I have owned a number of their motherboards. No issues. Used to like Asus but too many NIC issues with 4 different models.
@farmeunit motherboards are often fine, GPU's and PSU's are not though
@@hmmmyes6934 Every manufacturer has/had issues at some point. That's why I gave Asus 3 chances. For every person that has trouble, there are 5 where it went fine. Usually the ones that didn't, complain the loudest.
@farmeunit My cousin used to have a Gigabyte Windforce OC RTX 2080 Super, after being solid for quite a few years (though being obscenely loud and high temp), gave out with intermittent issues of being unable to handle 3D loads, gave it to me, and after a while of trying, fixed it. Though I'm mainly judging by the insurmountable amount of people complaining about RMA's, and their PSU scandal didn't help in providing assurance in their product quality, neither in their services
Never trust Gigabyte.. lol
At least is not a psu
Was about to say.. recommending a gigabyte card?!?!?!? 😂😮
@@ryn5302if it's good why not?
This is how i feel about MSI lol. Just a few bad experiences and burning through my money & time more than any other brand is enough to leave a long lasting taste. Gigabyte seemed pretty good value to me but i've not used a board or card from them since DDR3 motherboard days.
Gigabyte GPUs were starting to crack and die and you wanna know what Gigabyte did? Shut down their RMA site… god I miss EVGA.. the only one that cared about its consumers
I wouldn't buy a Gigabyte RTX GPU with the boards breaking...
Never buy garbage gigabyte ever in your life.
2ND Comment!
We forced to pay over 870usd for this hunka junk
That 4070 super GPU with only 12gb VRAM will be obsolete in 12 months.

Nah your mom does my man.
Gigabyte is a joke and its better to spend a little over MSRP to not have to deal with their awful warranty service.
Flairworks. I like it
