The Devils performing our winning set at BOSS [Boston Sings] on April 8th, 2016. We had an amazing weekend performing at BOSS, and felt so honored to be awarded Best Arrangement for “Blood I Bled” (Matt Goldstein and Hannah Tobias), Best Spoken Word (Michaela Coplen), Most Nuanced Performance (Hannah Tobias), and First Place!!!
The BOSS prompt this year was to create a set based on a classic grade-school subject, so we chose the subject of history and crafted a set about modern warfare and those it affects. The music and words of this set are incredibly important to us, and we hope you that they move you as they have moved us.

Thank you SO MUCH to our friends at The Vocal Company for putting together this incredible video! We feel so lucky to get to put our music in your hands!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History counts its skeletons in round numbers
A thousand and three becomes a thousand
As if the three never existed
A trio left to sing their own lament
Left to sing with earth caught in their mouths
History draws its war accounts in black and white and red
And history only counts the dead
It forgets the ones who live
The ones who see in the mirror what they struggle to forgive
The ones who hide in solitude the fact that pieces of them didn’t make it back
The ones who ran, or hid, or fled, and died within themselves instead
- - -
At night the soldier wonders what she’s fighting for
Is this a just war, or just another war?
It’s never just a war anymore
- - -
The most dangerous part of modern warfare is that it makes itself invisible
That we can forget, because from here it feels like peace
Since it’s not our blood, not our city streets
My country, we all need to stand at attention
Remember that war is a human invention
It’s ours to unmake
- Michaela Coplen

HERE IN 2024. STILL AMAZING!!
CONFIRMED Matt Goldstein and Hannah Tobias are wizards.
This is not only the best I've ever heard acappella sound and look, but may be one of the most moving pieces of music I've encountered. Sheer genius, bravo bravo bravo.
Wow - thank you so much for these seriously kind words
Still haven't seen or heard a set that was this well thought out. Big props to Hannah Tobias and Matt Goldstein who arranged the music, and to all of the performers. Everyone had such great stage presence. I felt like I was right in the middle of a musical battlefield.
Also HUGE props to that blonde singer in the black dress. Their energy was electric the entire time!
The arrangement of Privacy BLOWS MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Reese!! :D
The Vassar Devils are y'all ever gonna do a professional recording of it?
We actually just finished recording our first album (which will feature all of the songs from this set, as well as a bunch of others!) and will be releasing it in March!
You bet!
When??? I checked today :( I'm obsessed!
The arrangement of Privacy was ethereal, especially with how well Matt's voice fit into the arrangement.
I can't get over that final chord! I've watched this video at least 100 times and I get goosebumps every single time!!!
I'm aliiiiiive.................................until now.
I fell out of my chair. The first line of their set from last year. Genius.
College a capella is a field populated with tons of groups of decent singers who get together and sing pop music because it sounds good. And then... there are groups like this. This set was thoughtful, emotive, and deeply passionate. Very well done.
That #11 in the last chord though... absolutely insane pulling that off live!
Matt Goldstein 😍😍😍😘
Matt and Hannah - these are some of the best arrangements I've ever heard done for a cappella. Major props to the two of you. Keep up the incredible work. I especially loved the constant use of major 7ths, add 2, and add 4 chords. Not overdone, but used to perfection. The subtle moving lines that occur throughout "Blood I Bled" really speak out and are genius. It's so hard for me to focus on one or two specific things - I have a list of dozens of things that I loved about the arrangements, but I don't want to drone on and on.
The rest of the group - you guys did an amazing job. Being able to keep an audience engaged is so crucial to success in the music industry, and you did it incredibly well. Your harmonies are tight and movements are sharp. Incredible performance.
Are you kidding me? This is the best thing I've ever heard.
THE CHORDS AT 12:04-12:16 I AM SHOOK!!!!
The homages to your 2015 Finals set were brilliant and nostalgic. Fantastic work, Devils.
Thought I was the only one who noticed!!
the last little "until now" made my entire week😂
We're so glad that you noticed the little easter egg! We thought no one would even notice! 😂
Not going to lie, I was watching sing it on and looked the Vassar Devils up because I thought the guy in the beanie is cute as heck but now I'm so I'm love with the whole group. I wish I could have the incredible talent and dedication that all these wonderful individuals have. thank you for showing me that even though pentatonix is shit a capella can be insanely amazing.
Privacy was absolutely flawless.
Hannah Tobias is a phenom!!!!!
the chords at 12:04 are the warmest sound i've ever heard
Oh my god, my heart skipped a beat at the beginning of Alive. Wow.
ahh! love the throwbacks to their ICCA set from last year
You guys are insane holy CRAP
The arrangements the sound the solos the VP like ru KIDDING?!
I'm struggling to fathom an a cappella competition this set wouldn't win.
Do I listen to this everyday? Maybe.
Max Palmer lol same
Same. No joke.
THIS IS STILL AMAZING IN 2020
THIS IS STILL AMAZING IN 2021

Powerful - angels of A Capella
You guys completely blow my mind.
Dani Dones reminds me of Daveed Diggs from "Hamilton" (they even have the same initials). This performance gave me chills AND moved me to tears during these 15 minutes - you guys are aca-mazing! 😍🎤
I remember this like it was yesterday!! this blew me away!!! Knew you would win from the minute you started!!! A highlight of BOSS 2016 for me!!!
I just keep coming back to this set. It's SO good.
MY HEART. This is the most INCREDIBLE Acapella group I've ever seen in my entire life. I need to sing with them omg 😭. Goosebumps and tears in my eyes .
This is so incredible. I rewatch this video nearly weekly. The harmony and blend that you achieve is phenomenal.
What a brilliant way of moving people, spreading emotions. Just using your passion, talent on arranging and last but not least.... all your unbeliavable voices! You surely are the new medium for transferring emotions! You can make anyone cry or laugh on the snap of your fingers. Absolutely amazing! MY biggest respect to you guys. Please keep this running and share it to the people. Continue!
Whoops. Nearly forgot something. Huge regards to the sound guy who mixed the sound for you on this one! You should handcuff this guy and hump him with you! Thanks man! Phantastic job!
This never gets old, gives me chills every time
I come back to this every now and then to remind myself of the pure talent and creativity behind this set! Unlike anything I've heard before or since! Wow🙏🏾🙌🏾💕
This was so good! I first heard of you guys in the show "Sing it On" and I just decided to actually listen to you guys and im blown away by the talent. I'm glad we can have talented people like you guys in the world!
Perhaps my favorite set of all time
Just discovered you guys via another show. This is just...beauty, artistry, music. Everything. Thank you.
I'm not gonna lie, I spoke this to my class as a poem for a competition. I won. I still listen to it every ten minutes. Amazing!
this is absolutely incredible. i'm floored by the level of sheer talent, paired with incredible arrangements and backed with stunning musicianship. thank you for this performance.
I keep coming back to this, and I'm ok with that.
This deserves so many more views than it has, such a talented group!! Mind blown.
Holy crap!! That was pretty spectacular! I feel this shall become a daily watch!
constant goosebumps!!!!
I always come back to this amazing video 😍
Awesome job guys. It was awesome to perform on the same stage that night, and you crushed it. I don't listen to my own group's recordings as much as I listen to this!
I love this and even more the two at 9:20 your voices ensnared my heart
13:13 putting the same melodies as your cover of Iscariot is rly cool!
AHHH that was awesome!!!
sooo amazing! im in love with this😍
I came here looking for the beanie guy but I'm amazed omg.
so professional....so touched.....
this is amazing
Love the arrangement!! :)
Amazing.
Wow amazing!!!
Really fantastic set! I always give bonus points to videos with good audio quality as well :)
It’s divine that some people appear like angels to have been put on this earth for the express purpose to entertain us with their other worldly talents and abilities. Such splendor in their ability to captivate and mesmerize all who watch. These angels are god’s gift to the world.
This still hits so fucking hard.
Nice job guys!
Werk. So moved by this performance- love your work!
Thank you so much Lizzie! We are so excited that Gestalt is going to be singing some of our music - can't wait to hear!
I can see why. Not JUST beautifully sung.....but moving.
Great!!
wow !!
oh my
holy god
I swear! Holy shit!!!
♥️♥️♥️
I loved Alive
that's just perfekt ... i don't know what to say
wow
god.
damn
Just showed this to one of my best a cappella friends and watched it for the hundredth time and I'm wondering what planet those 8 dislikers are on... fix yourselves.
omg
The alive soloist kinda sounds like Scott from pentatonix 😭😍
Interesting to see the strong male participation in this group at an historically female college!
someone please tell me the name of the singer at 11:40?! his voice gave me pure goosebumps. the soul in his voice is ethereal!
The rising tenor line in the background? That would be Joseph Szymanski!
Who let their father on stage to beat box
Loved your performance. Brilliant arrangements. Although the Alive soloist could have been someone else. He didn't fit in with his throaty voice. I'd rather see him in a metal or rock song.
As an alum of the school, you might want tell some of the ladies they forgot most of their outfits in their dorm rooms. Nice performance though.
Amazing.
