I confess that I had no idea a brass ensemble could make music of such a sublime quality - my ignorance entirely of course. And I have only recently discovered the composer and every new piece surprises and delights. After 60 years of listening still so much to discover.
Astor Piazzola is pretty unique. He took some things from the Tango we had here in Argentina at that time and he made something unique. His style and aproach to the bandoneon instrument and his interpretation of Tango is one of a kind, a musician that stands alone in the unique music genre he created.
Welcome to an amazing world of professionalism and joy. These amazing musicians have worked as hard as any player in a string Quartet, and cover a gammet of styles that is quite appealing and extremely challenging. Please continue to enjoy!

BRAVO! IST DAS EIN UMWERFENDES ENSEMBLE!!!
Probably the best option to reproduce the music of Astor piazzolla through the immense talent of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with an instrumental color perfectly adapted to that argentinian repertoire. Refined, precise and just beautiful!
honest to god, it looks like the people behind the ensemble had something bad for dinner - not a happy looking crowd. I love how Martin Schippers plays, and how Verhelst (in this case) arranges.
@@leoarrabi8927 I disagree. If you are enjoy the music, especially Piazzolla, you are allowed to move your whole body if you feel like. That’s what it’s all about. Even musician are movin while playin
I listen to this performance regularly, but what makes me upset sometimes is that the cameras don't even focus at the tuba player as they do with the other players. Besides that, it's a outstanding performance. I love the movement "fuga y misterio"
The tuba player is the most maligned of musicians. They're perpetually stigmatized as the fat kid in the back row. The bass is the foundation upon which is built the sound of the entire ensemble, and yet the tubist is always taken for granted. Cosmic injustice if you ask me...
Wonderful in every way. With an ensemble like this, for me it’s the perfect intonation that really stands out. And special mention to the Schippers brothers! Very unusual to have siblings seated next to each other in such a highly regarded orchestra, but you guys are really great!
at first i assumed the trumpetists are the brothers but then i read the video description., realized the trombonists are the brothers. but the trumpetists look very brotherly to me too..🤣

It's one of those outstanding performances that either makes you want to immediately go practice, or quit playing altogether. Just a ridiculous sound from everyone involved; may as well just leave it on repeat for the day I suppose.
Yep, and that is the reason after practicing 6 hrs a day for yrs on end I finally saw the light and realized I was simply treading water. No mater what any one says, I believe music is a gift and no amount of practice can make a person into a master. Sorry, but I wasted all my younger years trying to prove otherwise.
@@monkeyman41333 you have to practice with a purpose playing a lot of exercises and fundamentals without any purpose on what you need to fix, improve and what you want is useless
Beautifully played. Not only great technique and musicianship, but playing really well together as an ensemble which takes a lot of listening by the musicians to each other. If you like Piazzolla's music played by brass, the Canadian Brass album "Magic Horn" has four different pieces. They include "Libertango" (which has been arranged for every sort of group from Symphony orchestras down to kazoos I think) and also "Oblivion" which has a stunning haunting melody. Piazzolla's instrument, by the way, was the bandoneon (a type of concertina). I think Piazzolla's work should be played more often than it is.
