My God, Every aspect of Matthias's and the others' playing astounds me every time....and what a wonderful arrangement for this ensemble to play. This is one of those groups that I feel like won't hear about much because they don't hype themselves very much...but they're about as legendary and "legit" as you can get. They seem the German variant of the Philip Jones Brass to me....
It's so comforting to know that at the beginning of the 2nd mvt. the horns are actually human beings. I thought they were robots for a little while. Still the best brass ensemble in the world, by far.
Can't believe how lucky I was stumbling upon this fantastic video. Trumpet playing is of course great with beautifully played valve trombone solo with gorgeous tone.
Never get tired of listening to this performance, And at the end of each viewing, I kept asking myself, "Why does the audience react like they've just heard a mediocre school band perform."
Thank you for your comment. Myself and sveral people had the same feeling as you about the audience. This church --St. Thomas--is where Bach served as Cantor(Music Director, as it were) It seems they're just neibor people with little knowledge about J.S.Bach and brass instruments.
Interesting, Never knew works like these existed. I only knew the transcriptions for orgue. Well, Bach was a composer, who never had problems to appreciate other composers work. And he had taste of course. The second movement is of exceptional beauty!
straordinario! intonazione perfetta, suono magnifico, rotondo, pieno, musicalità strepitosa, carattere ed esperienza!
Thank you for your comment I think the horn you mentioned "piccolo french horn " is “Corno da caccia." Valves are controled with players' right hand. As you know French Horns have valves for left hands. Once I read principal trumpet player Matthias Höfs plays 17 different instruments!
I am truly mystified with the 27 Dislikes! How can you not whole-heartedly adore this display of brass playing at its very finest!?? It just doesn't make sense!
Too true. Even though this is not my preferred arrangement (so who cares?), actually "disliking" it is utterly absurd and an uncouth, incompetent and bigoted reaction to outstanding, stellar musicianship, sadly common for today's infantile narcissism frighteningly resembling the Stalinist USSR we're now too like, especially higher (evidently on crack) education (e.g. those mindless hypocritically demanding repeal of the 1st Amendment, of course only for those who disagree, as it was with deranged '60s Berkely bigotry that likewise didn't really riot for true free speech (i.e. for everyone), only their own, but it it's not free for EVERYONE it's not truly free for ANYONE.
Absolutely... if you're minded to listen to this music in the first instance, how can you possibly dislike this mastery? Incredible playing and musicianship.
Thank you for leaveing lovely comeent. Enrique Crespo is a very skillful. He plays the slide trombone, the euphonium as well. The right side trumpet player is Matthias Höfs. For further details, pleas searcha "German Brass" in Google. Sorry for incovenicece but it is inhibited by RUclips to show URL here.
@hockeywarrior Thank you. This is really amazing performance. 1st trumpet player arranged BWV 972 for this ensemble, but I feel as if this is the "original."
This song is awesome. Our Saint Louis de Montfort high school band played the second movement for graduation 2017. Thanks to Mr. Gregory Escaro, our amazing band teacher!
@sosome57 Thank you. Those instruments are ones in different keys, as you say,and strictly speaking, not only trumpets. One player uses different instruments, such as Flugelhorn,Corno da caccia, etc.
This is amazing, the first mov. sounds like the opening or the tittle music of a fantasy game like Fire Emblem, Final fantasy or Dragon quest. when the title is shown.
Are the horns you're playing baroque instruments? I noticed that there were a lot of horns on the floor. Are those for different keys or something? I like the film of Bach's resting place. For music enthusiasts, for Bach enthusiasts, that has to be a very reverant, solemn place. There lies Bach, a musical genius the likes of which the world will never see again. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful.
What a lovely version of some lovely music! Thank you. The acoustics don't make the most of the excellent playing, it feels as though more microphones were needed in strategic places.
Who are these excellent brass players -- does their group have a name? Excuse me if I missed it--I'm tired after a long day of saving brass items to my youtube list
I think Enrique Crespo is the valve trombone player, but what is the name of the trumpet players on the right and left. They have probably the most beautiful trumpet sound for this music and a perfect embouchure.
What a lovely version of some lovely music! Thank you. The acoustics don't make the most of the excellent playing, it feels as though more microphones were needed in strategic places. Are they period instruments? There is a softness to the sounds of some which suggests they are. I agree the applause is tame, I would also have been much more enthusiastic. Does this ensemble have recordings out? It would be interesting to hear the quality of the recordings because the playing is so good.
If anyone was wondering, the amazing piccolo player's name is Matthias Höfs.
They are "The finest performing ensemble on this earth".
Incredible skill by all of the brass group but especially the lead piccolo......."exceptional technique". As a trumpet player I'm completely in awe!!
UNBELIEVABLE PLAYING! I can't believe how tame the clapping is at the end! I would be standing up, screaming after a performance like this.
Magnificent! As an ensemble, brilliant; but Höfs is from another planet!!!
Oh, I like your feeling! "Höfs is from another planet!!!" Nice words!
Their sound and musicality is perfect. I find no flaws in their presentation of the music. It is divine!
This is just unbelievable! I've watched this many, many times and it never gets old. Amazing!
Valve trombone?! Did not expect that.
Third movement is AMAZING.
Trumpeter on the left has quite a collection on the floor with him!
It's so comforting to know that at the beginning of the 2nd mvt. the horns are actually human beings. I thought they were robots for a little while. Still the best brass ensemble in the world, by far.
My absolute all-time favourite on all of RUclips (return to this every few years).
Perfect joy from start to finish, a most precious piece of Art.
German Brass - live ein absolutes Highlight! Blech in höchster Perfektion. Wunderschön!
what an incredible depth of talent in this group. perfection in brass form
The moment at 5:41 brings tears. So lovely.

I appreciate your impressive comment.
Can't believe how lucky I was stumbling upon this fantastic video. Trumpet playing is of course great with beautifully played valve trombone solo with gorgeous tone.
I have listened to this dozens of times and get goosebumps EVERY time! Such magnificent playing! BRAVO!!
Thank you. I feel as if this arrangement for brass ensemble is ORIGINAL. It looks like Vivaldi's RV 230 was givn another life by Bach.
Bravo, Wonderful Music! Matthias Hofs can really lay it out on the piccolo trumpet; incredible playing!!! Super!!!
Never get tired of listening to this performance,

Maravilloso Enique Crespo y Mattias Hofs y los German Brass.
VIVA VIVALDI
VIVA BACH
Interesting, Never knew works like these existed. I only knew the transcriptions for orgue. Well, Bach was a composer, who never had problems to appreciate other composers work. And he had taste of course. The second movement is of exceptional beauty!
Un pur moment de plaisir !
Quel régal !!!
Hofs' playing always knocks me out, but the whole ensemble is exceptional. Is that Einstein on horn?
Wow!... The piccolo trumpets sounds purely amazing !
+Valkyry5
Yes yes. He (Mr Matthias Hofs)is one of the most skillful trumpeters in the world.
I really appreciate your beautiful comment "Vivaldi is a devotional father and his music is for God." Excellent! It is me who must say "Thank you."
Vi ascolto con una gioia incredibile...strepitosi.
straordinario! intonazione perfetta, suono magnifico, rotondo, pieno, musicalità strepitosa, carattere ed esperienza!
A really clever arrangement, and really superb playing.
Whoa, these guys are beasts!
Glorious music. Thank you composers and players !

Unfathomably Beautious. The Light fills my Soul.

@sosome57 Thank you. Those instruments are ones in different keys, as you say,and strictly speaking, not only trumpets. One player uses different instruments, such as Flugelhorn,Corno da caccia, etc.
Brillantissime interprétaion ! On en redemande !...
This is amazing, the first mov. sounds like the opening or the tittle music of a fantasy game like Fire Emblem, Final fantasy or Dragon quest. when the title is shown.
A score for A piccolo Trumpet is available at Maurice Andre's website.
Great musicians !! congratulations, amazing performance

MARAVILLOSO PERFECT
Love the tight semiquavers at 7:01!
I think Enrique Crespo is the valve trombone player, but what is the name of the trumpet players on the right and left. They have probably the most beautiful trumpet sound for this music and a perfect embouchure.
Magnificently Beautiful!! :)
Wonderful Playing! Also, does anyone know what kind of french horn is shown at 1:07?
wow!!!! Bravo!!!
This brass ensemble is German Brass. They all used to have been important position of German major orchestras.
What a lovely version of some lovely music! Thank you. The acoustics don't make the most of the excellent playing, it feels as though more microphones were needed in strategic places. Da paura..... Grandi #germanbrass ricordo ancora l'esibizione a Friburg nel 2015
excelente
I think the valve trombone, in this case, is in E not Eflat, it was made especially for crespo himself
Oh,really, thanks informative.
