I have both. I love my GR86 wouldn't trade it for the world, the power and comfort is so much better. But the rawness of the 1st gen BRZ feels amazing and the steering is also better.
Kevin, I love my FRS. I bought this car brand new in 2014 and it was a 2013 that had been on the Toyota lot for over a year. I love driving it to this day. 45k ish miles on it and its been super reliable. Can't wait to see more content from you.
5:00 here’s an idea, Matt Maran did this with his previous cars too. Talk about your past cars, but also if you still have the vin, you can look at where they are at now. Their history, and possible car accidents
100% agree with the AWE Touring exhaust, I love mine. Interesting fact, if you install it on a previous gen, there aren’t any pops/crackles on the downshift
From an aesthetics perspective, I prefer the FRS. I was kind of digging the GR86 when it was first announced (functional brake ducting, etc.) but when it got to the back of the car, BOOM. Camry. I just can't understand how a designer could think those taillights flow with the lines of the car.
I’m just looking forward to getting my GR86 for myself. 😍 I have a red one on order too and black bolts is exactly how nerdy and fussy I am with everything!
Ahh yes GR86 front end and Gazoo Racing are def strong/valid points! I feel like they spent way more marketing the GR86 vs the BRZ as well, making it the more desirable model
i agree with you on the bumper arguement, and theres a world rally blue brz with a gr86 bumper out there and its looks amazing. I myself own a facelift 2018 brz in blue like the one you showed and im still waiting on my neptune blue gr86 and trade it in
I know its not in same class, but building a Factory Five Mk4 had all kinds of issues and custom fabrication. But it was worth it, 425 hp, 400 torque, and weighs less than miata.
how come no one talks about the BRZ? There are three cars essentially the same and only the other two really ever get talked about. Just curious as to why that is. But glad that you mentioned it and the why :)
Great video! Can't say I'm a fan of the FRS since I have no experience with it. It looks good enough but just going off of photos and such I love the look of my GR86 much more than the FRS. Sounds cheesy but I'd have to say I like all the mods that I've done so far since they all lead to my ultimate goal of making the car "mine". Like you though I really do love my AWE Touring. I just can't say that my neighbors agree 🤣 As for the merch drop coming soon, well you know me I'm waiting on the shirts with an actual GR86 illustration for a design! But I'll still pick up one of the others dropping to hold me over until the GR ones arrive LOL
I prefer the BRZ front bumper especially because of the fake vents on the GR86. BRZ reminds me more of a Porsche, and GR86 reminds me more of the Camry/Corolla.
Really funny actually haha, When i was changing the parklight of my GV STi it became such a hassle, The old parklight fell into the headlight which was pain to get out
my worst install for my frs was the tomei uel headers bc the nut holding the stock header to overpipe was stripped so i had to use a sawzall to cut the nut😭
i'm sure you know, but for drift 350z seems like a better choice power/torque wise over the 86/brz, but the 350z also runs into power issues if you want more than FBO you basically have to go Forced Induction, or engine swap.
I have an frs and funny enough i also want to make it the ultimate track capable street car, but ive been wondering if it would be a better choice to upgrade to a gr86 and build that instead
@@spork8721 I may npt be speaking through experience but you're really better off with the FRS since there's already so many aftermarkets laid out for the car compared to 2nd gen. Like turbo kits from expensive to cheap ebay tubos. Though if you want, you can wait for more aftermarkets to be available for the GR86 (which they are but is quite pricey).
@@EnhancedTrashBin ive considered that the aftermarket isnt quite as strong, but the 2nd generation isnt massively different than the 1st and i wont be upgrading right away so there is time for more kits to develop

I own a 2023 BRZ and it way better than the gr86 stock for stock. Brz has a bigger front sway bar that’s hollow for weight reduction. Aluminum knuckles, tune and much more. Remember. It’s a subaru at the end of the day. 😉
They’re basically the exact same car. Way better is a huge stretch. Also, the gr86 has posted slightly better track times by major car publications like motor trend.
the front of the toyota reminds me of cars from the 80's, the gr 86 has a similar bumper to a regular corolla and the gr designation should be reserved for one of the models and not every toyota has a gr - weak :( subaru br is one unique :) 2 Subaru Brz is faster and lighter in tests conducted by professional Japanese drifters subaru has aluminum roof and knuckles bigger rivets which makes the car stiffer sound equipment is also different toyota has outdated

4:20 I definitely want to get into the drift scene as well. Got to complete my current builds to a certain point first though.
Both look great. The GR86 really looks spectacular.
100% agree with the AWE Touring exhaust, I love mine. Interesting fact, if you install it on a previous gen, there aren’t any pops/crackles on the downshift
I had an FRS- Series 1 as a daily and put hundreds of thousands of miles on it, which I enjoyed, but I'm not second-guessing my trade for a GR86.

I felt this way too but lately I’ve grown to like them more but feel like when it sits lower it doesn’t look so off or smashed inward

I have been looking for an FRS for months, not easy to find in my area. Should I consider salvaged titles? I have been avoiding them completely
350z drift build would be awesome. I always liked them.
I’m a fan of the first generation chassis
As am I!
Please make a video on programming TPMS sensors for this car!
I prefer the frs because parts are readily available and is more attainable. The gr86 is cool too though.

Was this the grey 97 Vspec? If so such a nice buy! That's like my dream car.

Be careful with that beautiful front lip. I done broke like 3 on my STI from either my driveway or at work lol.

Yeah, but I'd have even less power with the FRS haha
4.8 Final gear swap with LSD could resolve that issue
which one has more interior space ?
It's the same haha
if you or somebody could make some sort of front lip trim to cover the stupid molded-plate in plate mount on the new BRZ, I'd be all over that.
do you think you can fit a road racing bicycle in the trunk/backseat of a brz/gr86 with the front tire off? (not interested in the slambert rig)
yeah! on the first gen, i'd prefer the zc6 over the zn6. but the second gen, i prefer the zn8 over the zc8. hehe. we have good taste. lol
I have an frs and funny enough i also want to make it the ultimate track capable street car, but ive been wondering if it would be a better choice to upgrade to a gr86 and build that instead
If you have the money, the GR86 is a better platform to build, but if you're balling on a budget than the FRS will get you a lot of smiles per dollar.

Pros and cons of the aluminum knuckles you mentioned?
The BRZ has aluminum knuckles making it lighter and stronger for the suspension that the BRZ only has.
