First grandchild coming in September and want to make some crib sheets for her bedroom to match and came across ur video 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 simple enuff for me 🤞 TYFS!
Oh wow, thus will be perfect to make B's bed really special for her when she is older & moves out of our bed. For some reason I thought that this would be so much harder. Thank you so much for taking the fear away x
This looks super easy! I'm making these for a friend and don't want to waste the fabric she picked out. She's going with a Wonder Woman theme! I think I've got this. Thanks again!!
Wow! I really anjoy all of your videos! I feel that even if i don't have a sewing machine or even if i wont do this project in a near future, i've learn something that i won't forget.... It's such a very important knowledge that is not teached as much as it was before! (Hope i'm maling sense, i'm french!)
so my mattress was 52 x 27 x 6... so if you add 52 + 6 (length plus depth) then add 9-10 inches to allow for the casing and wrapping under the mattress. So your length + depth and add 9-10 inches and do the same for width + depth - does that make sense?
I've never been a 'member' of RUclips. Took me 25 mins to work out how to join just to be able to comment & say I love this tutorial & all of your tutorials! Im a beginner & i totally appreciate them! Laura from Australia :)
Anything larger than a crib sheet would be tricky, because you don't want to have a seam on your sheet. The width of fabric is just not wide enough for those mattress sizes and sheeting like that may be hard to find. I would buy a simple sheet set and make some customized blankets, quilts and pillow cases for you daughters. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! Yes, that's Ikea for ya, Euro measurements. Its a cute bed and mattress that starts as a toddler bed then can extend into a Twin bed. I have sheets but they're plain white, :( nothing fancy and girlie for sure. And yes, it made sense. So, I need to find some fabric at least 58 inches wide. On the quest again. Thank you, thank you, thank you again!
Was thinking that if the square on the corners were not so big, then maybe to save on elastic I could just add it to the corners and hem the straight edges. My crib matress is a standard size so no extra fabric would be wasted. I just needed the basic idea and this helped. Thanks.
I love your video. Very easy to understand. I need to make a bassinet sheet. Could you tell me how to figure how much fabric to use based on the size of my mattress and what size square I should cut out of the corners. Thanks so much!
I love the video. Very helpful. I'm fairly new to sewing want to make a flannel crib sheet. Some projects call for prewashing flannel to preshrink it. Should I prewash it before sewing the crib sheet? I don't want it to Frey
Melanie, your tutorial is great. I need to make a custom sized fitted sheet. The crib mattress is 39 x 20 x 3". I'm not sure what formula you use to determine cut sizes and how large to make the cut at the corners. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Would you please consider posting a twin fitted sheet video. I'm having a hard time finding cute sheets for my daughter! Thanks! Love love LOVE your sewing tutorials!! Thanks for all of your help, i really do appreciate you sharing your talent. -Meredith
thank you for the tutorial! I have a 38 long X 17.5 wide inch crib mattress. How much material will I need to make a fitted sheet? And what length of elastic do you get? thanks again
Great video, thanks for sharing your talent with us. I'm sure that I have missed the answer but how much elastic did you use? I tried finding the answer in the replies but I am missing it. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give. I have cut my fabric and sewn the four corners. I'm preparing to sew the hem all around now. This is my first sheet; I normally only quilt.
Im going to try this! Ill need to make a deep pocket sheet to accommodate a foam roll (in place of using a large bed rail) for my son's toddler bed. Would I just increase the squares that are cut from the corners?
HI I'm new to sewing and I'm using an old Singer sewing machine that was passed down by my grandma .. anyhow this machine does not have any types of stitching only a straight stitch .. my question is will a straight stitch work or will I have to forget about making this project? Also I loved this tutorial ... you really are great at teaching thank you for posting it...
I'm in the same situation. I made 4 crib sheets and just ran a second row of stitching close to the edge. I googled different ways to finish seams without a serging machine. the options are time consuming. I'm going to try the french seam.
Just found your tutorial which is very helpful, however! I have cut the material without adding the extra 9-10 inches. What do you think my best fix will be? I left a little extra but forgot about tucking the sheet under the mattress :( I have extra material~wonder if I should sew the extra back on? Who would've thought making a fitted sheet would be so difficult?? Thank you
then add another strip of fabric to both sides that is equal to the depth of your mattress plus 1'' for seam allowances (using 1/2'' seam allowances) then cut a square out of the corner that is equal to the depth of your mattress plus 1/2" - hopefully this helps
I have been watching this and trying to practice on littler pieces of fabric so I don't use the fabric I bought to use and then mess it up.. Are you folding around the whole piece of fabric including the corners that you sewed? Or are you doing the sides and not the corners? Please help me before I lose my mind lol 😊 TIA
a twin would require the depth of the mattress plus the casing allowance plus the width of your mattress - that said most home decor fabric is 60" wide - you can get some home dec fabric in 120" wide but they won't e as soft as quilters cotton which is usually around 45'' wide. a twin is usually 39" wide x 75'' long. so you'd have to piece fabric together. you wouldn't like seam in the middle so you want to cut 39" plus seam allowance (40" with 1/2" seam allowance on both sides
Melanie, when making the crib sheet how do you measure to customize for different size mattresses? I have a small vintage bed my daughter is using for newborn pictures. I cut 2 pieces of foam to fit the bed measuring 21 x 16 x 4 (deep). Using ur standard crib measurements I guessed & came up with 36 x 34 x 6 inch corner squares. I just completed steps to the corners & about to make the seam allowance for the elastic. Am I correct with my measurements or do you have a better way to measure?
Hi Love the video.. But I am wondering about the Elastic that goes around the Fabric.. of the Crib sheet..How much yardage did you buy? Thank You... :-)
How do we calculate the fabric size to cut based on the size of the mattress. I bought a customised mattress (25.5 inch by 37 inch & Thickness: 3.5 inch) from Sea Horse for my son's playpen. Would really love your help. Thank you.
Hi Melanie I hope you can help me figure out the measurements I would need for my sponge that is (L-192cm W-98cm & D-10cm). I think that a 4or5” square would be that amount I would need to cut. Am I close? And one more question. How much fabric should be under the mattress? I hope you can help me but if not is there anyone else that could tell me?
I thought we had a standard size crib mattress but these measurements are way too small and the sheet I made does not fit. I made a new one using starting measurements of 68"x45" and it fit wonderfully. (I've never seen a different size crib mattress in any stores so I'm not sure how I messed that up.) but still thank you for the easy instructions! So useful with any size sheet:) blessings!
Hi, I love your tutorial! So I am determined to make crib sheets for my baby boy due in Sept. I bought fabric, I made the mistake of not measuring it before, and after I washed and dried it it measures 38 inches wide. It is plenty long. I'm wondering fi there is any way that I can make it work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
hmmm, you might be able to make it work! Use as small amount as possible for the elastic casing... and you won't have as much going down under the mattress. You could try it though!
alex garza i would measure your mattress first and then adjust my measurements accordingly... for example 10 inches less from this side, 6 inches from that. Does that make sense?
lalathestylist it really needs to be wider ;( I would suggest using that fabric in other ways like curtains, changing pad cover, pillows, quilt/blankets... etc
My sister bought to short of fabric, only 1.5 yards. I.m just gonna cut it down on the ends minus the 7.5 inches on the ends and add and 8.5 inch piece on both ends to make up the difference and not waste the fabric. You could do the same on the long ends. You just need to do a little calculating depending on how big of seams you use.
you can add a border along the sides, equal width on both sides to obtain the needed width. So if you use a print for the actual top of the mattress try using a print to create the look of a border. in that case..I would do it to all 4 sides. Simply cut your 41" fabric to fit the top of the mattress plus seam allowance... 1/4 to 1 half inch... then for your borders, cut strips wide enough to allow for the thickness of your mattress plus about 2 1/4 to 3 1/4 inch to allow for seam allowance, coverage and elastic casing. after you sew your border to all 4 sides, trim your squares in the corners like in the video and complete like in the video. Really simple...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I got my daughter's toddler bed and mattress from Ikea. I brought fabric and I don't think its wide enough to cut the corners. The mattress measurements are 38in Wide, 47.5in Long and 7.5in Depth. My fabric is 45 inches wide, I don't know if I should even wash the fabric and attempt to sew it or should I just exchange it. Thank you in advance! #fingerscrossed
mrsrowland0505 Wow, those are strange crib measurements! 45 inches wide won't be wide enough ;( Do they sell crib sheets to fit that? You might need to buy one, because even if you got a width of 54... 38 + 7.5 +7.5 and enough to go under the mattress and the casing for the elastic is more like 58. Does that make sense how I did that math?
mrsrowland0505 Just add strips of matching, or color coordinating, fabric to each side. Measure the top of the mattress + add 1" to the length & 1" to the width. The extra inch will leave you enough room for a half inch seam allowance on each side. Cut your main fabric to this size. Then measure the depth of the mattress + however much room you need for the casing + 1/2" , for the seam allowance. Cut your matching, or coordinating fabric this size, for the sides.
I'm having the hardest time finding fabric. I have home decor fabric in the style I want but I can't find any linen fabric. Is that what its called? I'm looking for an elephant as well as a chevron print fabric. Any suggestions?
iheartstitching Thank you. I'm just going to use a solid color for my crib sheet. Your videos have really helped me in just about making everything for my son's nursery.
What's the process for round bedding? My sister went and got a round crib for her baby but the round bedding is very expensive. Was thinking maybe I can make her some instead
The thing about round bedding is finding fabric that has the width you need... easy to find cotton fabric is usually 42-45 inches wide. I know you can get decorating weight fabric and knits in a wider width, but that is the challenge for that type of project!
OH good, glad you got the measurement! Thanks for watching!
Great tutorial. Since fitted sheets are easily soiled by lil ones, making a few that will match your existing set is a great idea. Thank you
First grandchild coming in September and want to make some crib sheets for her bedroom to match and came across ur video 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 simple enuff for me 🤞 TYFS!

Best tutorial ever!!!...I finally made my daughter a fitted sheet for her crib and I love it!!!
GREAT Tutorial!!! Thank you for posting. I can't wait to make my little man new sheets for his toddler bed. Absolutely perfect!
i did a 1/2 inch seam on the corners. Thanks!!

Laura Sam Hi Laura! Welcome to RUclips!!
Used this method and made really nice crib sheets fast... Thanks

Hi Sonya! All the measurements are always in the description box. I used 78 inches. Happy Sewing!
Thanks for sharing- I'm going to be a grandmother and hope to make some goodies for the little one.
I love your video. Very easy to understand. I need to make a bassinet sheet. Could you tell me how to figure how much fabric to use based on the size of my mattress and what size square I should cut out of the corners. Thanks so much!

It's best to wash fabrics before sewing to prevent shrinkage. Good luck!
I was going todo this for my little sister but didn't know how so thank you! :D
Make it the same size! A 2 inch difference in the mattress thickness won't mess anything up ;)
Lol well it.
Looks so easy. Not so nervous on trying it now!
Hola preciosa

Thanks so much! Your help is truly appreciated.
very nice video, very clear tutorial! Thank you very much!!
Incredible !! love this !! thank you for sharing !!!
Hi,
Great Video i was wondering if the process would be the same for a round crib?
Thanks
Oh thank you!
Nice I'm going to make an extra one for my grandson tomorrow!

Great tutorial and thank you! Did you use a standard seam allowance of 5/8 inch?
Thank you! I just made a crib sheet using your tutorial.
String the Elastic was so time consuming! But the crib sheet
Looks awesome!
Thanks! Very helpful. :) I want to try this tonight.
Angela Hudler happy sewing!
Im going to try this! Ill need to make a deep pocket sheet to accommodate a foam roll (in place of using a large bed rail) for my son's toddler bed. Would I just increase the squares that are cut from the corners?
Mary Pecbot yes exactly, I would make one out of muslin, 2nd choice fabric or old top sheet just in case you need to make any adjustments!
Hi. If my crib is 52x27x4. What is the size of the fabric that i have to cut? Thanks.

ok, so I have a Babee Tenda Crib and it takes a special size crib sheet of 25x55. What would be the material size I need to buy for one sheet?
Great! And very simple to do! Thank you.

Hi Love the video.. But I am wondering about the Elastic that goes around the Fabric.. of the Crib sheet..How much yardage did you buy? Thank You... :-)
You folded the ends and sewed them, after you just added the elastic and it's done?
Is this technique the same for twin, full, and king size beds as well? I want to make my daughters some custom bedding & curtins.
Love this tutorial Thanks!!

Hi there what size seam allowance are you using when sewing the corners? 5/8 1/4?

Hey what is the name of your sewing machine ?. I am currently looking for one. Please reply :-)
Is there a way this can be modified? The fabric that I really like for my two girls only comes 42" wide. Thanks
You are sweet! Perfect sense! xoxo
I did not hear how long the elastic needs to be
Amazing! Thanks
pretty much! shockingly easy right?!
How much fabric do you need to make twin, XL twin, full, and queen sheets?
Hello,
I just wanted to ask you. My fabric is just 44 inches wide. Do you think is not going to work for this project?
I was wondering I bought a mini crib so obviously sizes will be different but will 8 inch squares still work for the corners or should I go smaller?
alex garza i would measure your mattress first and then adjust my measurements accordingly... for example 10 inches less from this side, 6 inches from that. Does that make sense?
Yes that does make sense. Thank u!
Did you use fabric that wad 44 or 45"? Just curious.
hy!
if my mattress is 8 cm thick , how big has to be the al 4 squares?
thank you
Can you advise when buying fabric if you should purchase two yards???
yes! You want to have 2 yards at least 44 inches wide. Happy sewing!
love love love your videos!!!
for a "mini" crib mattress - how do you recommend I measure for fabric buying?
+L. Statt 38 in. L x 24 in. W x 3 in. H are the mattress dimensions
The fabric I've found that I like only comes in 41 inch wide fabric. Ah what do you suggest?? My crib mattress is a standard size one like yours
lalathestylist it really needs to be wider ;( I would suggest using that fabric in other ways like curtains, changing pad cover, pillows, quilt/blankets... etc

Thank you.
do you do a standard 5/8 inch seam allowance on the corners?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I got my daughter's toddler bed and mattress from Ikea. I brought fabric and I don't think its wide enough to cut the corners. The mattress measurements are 38in Wide, 47.5in Long and 7.5in Depth. My fabric is 45 inches wide, I don't know if I should even wash the fabric and attempt to sew it or should I just exchange it. I'm having the hardest time finding fabric. I have home decor fabric in the style I want but I can't find any linen fabric. Is that what its called? I'm looking for an elephant as well as a chevron print fabric. Any suggestions?
PRETTYNPINK2270 you will probably be able to find 100% cotton fabric easier, especially in the designs you are looking for.
iheartstitching Thank you. I'm just going to use a solid color for my crib sheet. Your videos have really helped me in just about making everything for my son's nursery.
I want to use some good material that is a twin or double bed .
What if it 43' wide will this work..?
How much elastic do you need
What sewing machine do you use?
What's the process for round bedding? My sister went and got a round crib for her baby but the round bedding is very expensive. Was thinking maybe I can make her some instead
The thing about round bedding is finding fabric that has the width you need... easy to find cotton fabric is usually 42-45 inches wide. I know you can get decorating weight fabric and knits in a wider width, but that is the challenge for that type of project!
Search for quilt backing fabric. That usually comes in 108". Probably won't find many cutsie prints though as backing fabric tends to be pretty basic.
You could piece together two widths, using a French seam even t make it strong. Then cut out your circle.
very nice
Hi what material is best to use
Would you know whats the measurements for a mini crib mattress
How long was your piece of elastic?
Kelly Rosner
How to you configure your measurements? I am sewing a fitted sheet for a mini matress.
can you make a video about how to make a handbag please?
when i stitch the other side thread is bunched u in spots, why?
There is no discription box how's much elastic is used for the crib sheet
Can I use 43' fabric
Can This Be Split?
