- Trying something a bit different with this review - a real world test and not just a spec read off. Hopefully this video demonstrates the quality of what I assume to be 7Artisans budget 50mm f/1.8 lens!

Thank you for the honest review and thank you for providing the unedited raws. I was kind of excited about this lens because I thought it would contain the same vintage look of their manual lenses. I am looking at the samples and I dont think this lens has the vintage look that made their glass unique. I already own a lot of fancy glass and wanted a fun lens with af that still retains the film look and this is not it. They should have figured out how to retain the non clinical look. Oh well.
That said though this is a fantastic option for a 50mm, besides the few quirks. Vintage/manual feel can be achieved quite easily with some editing tricks. Thing is, that "look" you're speaking of isn't because of fancy glass or clever build, it's just low quality and creates more fringing, softness, weird bokeh etc. And for the most part those lenses just end up being used for "special" occasions where you need that kind of shot. Whereas this is actually kinda good.
@@JackWoodhams well respectfully, I dont think this is a fantastic option as the sony 50mm 1.8 is VERY close to this lens in pricing, has consistent AF after the firmware update and produces better raws sooc. If they wanted to be unique, they should have stuck with what they did best which is keep the "vintage" glass look but combine it with AF. The lens has so so autofocus, non lockable aperture ring, and a easy button to shift into MF by accident. The images are flat and lack the unique 7artisans look and it is priced too close to higher performing native glass. I fail to see the benefit here. The market already has a lot of starter 50 glass with similar performance even at a lower price point. They missed the mark on this one sadly (in my humble opinion). I still appreciate you offering the raws. It helped save me from having to return a lens.
@@mnaz5628 Sony 50mm 1.8 is a terrible lens, slow clunky autofocus, entirely plastic, no focus switch, no aperture ring. I did a review comparing it to the 55mm, the 50mm would make you miss 50% of shots due to the slow focusing. And saying the photos are flat, this is a dark, dim day in London, so lighting plays a bit factor here. In a proper studio setting I'm sure the photos would be much higher quality.
Are you shooting with a picture profile or just RAW?
Raw 😎 the video shows the before and after using my preset. And there's a download link in the description of all the raw files.
Do you use Zebra lines to not overexpose? Or what method do you prefer to make sure you’re not overexposed?
@switzmoto my eyes 😂
Thank you, great real world review! I’m waiting for it to come to Z-mount so I can pick it up.
Thanks for watching and commenting! It's a great little lens!
@@JackWoodhams would you say it's better than the Viltrox 50mm alternative?
@@timdokter3893 Unfortunately I've not tried it
@@JackWoodhams too bad, but tnx for your swift replies :)
nice job. thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video and thanks for the raw files!
Where can I buy this lense?
I don't think it's available just yet. Hopefully 7artisans will release it soon!
