bit.ly/sikhnet-... In the video SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa (Yogi Bhajan) starts by talking about just "being" a Sikh verses experiencing and living as a Sikh (He related this in the terms he called "Concept" and "Conception"). He then talks about how Sikhs have been betrayed by the so called "Sikh Leadership" and how youth should not rely on them and BECOME the leaders themselves. He shares inspiring experiences from his youth before the partition of India when he was part of creating the All India Sikh Student Federation. He explains how the youth worked together and formed a powerful force with Sikhi as a base and through trust, honesty, equality. He shares the ingredients of what made this work and how youth of today can do this as well.

A very powerful story from Yogi Bhajan which gives a nice historical background behind the motivation of his philosophical and spiritual drive to spread Sikh Dharma... Pretty eye-opening for Sikhs from the East, and the West.

i just want to add something to the comment about indian sikhs not wanting to mix with white sikhs. it is something i heard my dad mention once and what i have come to realise over the years. the only experience our parents had of the UK was of British colonialism and really awful discrimination when they first arrived here. to the british government we were a problem that had to be handled. they thought white people were police infiltrators.

Western sikhs (White Sikhs) are the key to the survival and future of SIKHI. Without them, .......there is only the "concept" of a sikh left.
Yogi Bhajan did an amazing job in training and creating the teachers (white sikhs) of tomorrow.
..........the youth NEEDS the white sikhs because they are on our LEVEL.

we must realize that in sikhism we don't need a priest to find god. it is our personal connection with god and we must not stray away from the basic principals. our goal in life is to meet god nothing else. sikh politics are corrupt right now. we can't trust sikh leadership only guru ji.

@FiveLovedOnes What you don't realize, actually, is that Simran, Bani, Bani is all a type of yoga... That's not belittling if you open your mind... Yoga just means "union". Union of what? Union of the mind and body with God. Everything is God, and everything that gets you closer to God is Yoga. So, yoga is just a practice to make you more able to sit with God, more clearly - what could be misconception about that?

He's right- weak SIkh leadership has let us down in the past, from betrayal in the 1st unified Khalsa Raj (under maharaja Ranjit Singh), to partition, to now. At least now (in the UK anyway) the youths are taking some charge +taking Sikhism from basics- without the baggage/superstitions/traditions from the elders... BUT, really- how many people, without worrying for power, really care about the wellbeing of Sikhi... ?

Waheguru ji, Just have a question from this video. SSS HS Yogi ji mentioned that Jarnail singh was cornered by sikh politicians. I am not a follower of Jarnail Singh but very intersted in knowing the politics and what happened at that time? The truth because what you hear is all stories that cannot be trusted. THanks.

@Dervi5h - I dont think that attitude exists that much today, at least as much as its mentioned here. Rather white Sikhs, I think, are nowadays a bit of an inspiration- especially as many brown Sikh youths appear/act more anti-SIkh (drinking/non-veg/clubbing/etc). brown Sikhs, like me do appreciate thet SIkhs of all colours is the way forward... One family under One ...

Interesting views. Althought I do agree with his idea on being a Sikh is more of a concept and experiencing and living like one is different or Conceptual as he puts it. But this is the thing I wasn't aware of when he mentions that there was discrimination with white's who have converted to Sikhism. I mean if so the case then this is pure hypocrisy. Sikhism is all about diminishing the concept of discrimination based on cast or color. Anybody can join the faith period. There are no restrictions.
