    Simply the best review of any cymbal. This guy does'nt show off, he just plays a really sweet groove and lets you hear the cymbals in context. I love his playing. Thank you so much.

    "I friggin' love 'em". That's all I needed to hear. That and how good this guy is. If a drummer this good says they're good, they're good enough for me.

    The thing that Rob Brown does here that I appreciate is letting you hear the cymbals in a full band context. Any gear you have will never sound the way it does in isolation the way it will with a band. Most reviews I see are of just the drums and cymbals by themselves, and people are quick to judge these cymbals because of their price and the fact they only usually hear them by themselves. This is the best sounding review of these cymbals because Mr. Brown plays them along to an actual song and uses real-world application. With everyone playing together, these cymbals sound so similar to the 2002 series that most wouldn'tbat an eye. Thank you very much for this review, more drummers/drum shops on the internet need to showcase products this way.

    Dude, that beat (and "cool vibe" song) has me in my practice room! GREAT feel my man...As far as the PST 7 cymbals, I use Signature and 2002"s on 2 separate kits. Love them both. But these really sound fantastic in this video and I'm most likely going to buy a pack due solely to your incredible sounding example here. Paiste owes you commission....

    Love my PST7s. Got the 16" 18" and 19" crashes and 20" Ride. All medium, because the thin ones are a little too flimsy for me, while the heavy ones are just too noisy for most situations I play in.
    I just never saw the point in shedding like 500 bucks for one cymbal, when I can replace almost my entire setup for the same money. That's to say if they ever break, been playing them for 5 years now and they still hold up fantastically.

    I'm 63. Played 2002s since I was 18. Oh, I had my dalliances with Zildjians and Sabians, but never got the sound I was looking for. Saw this video a few years ago, and had a look at the 7s. Was looking for something with the same sound, but sightly less volume (with the same playing style) Superb! Bought a medium set and retired the 2002s. I've added the splash, and swapped out the 16" for a 19" when it was introduced. Thinking of buying a set of light hats now, as the cable remote I have is a bit finicky with the weight of the mediums. Anyone know off-hand the comparative weights? Also seriously tempted with the 20"light ride as a crash (although the medium crashes beautifully). As Rob says, don't be put off by the target market. Close your eyes and listen. These are some of the best cymbals I've ever played regardless of price. Everything else is just price/label snobbery!

      Update: Have now added the 20" light ride as a crash/ride, the 19" medium crash and happened on a set of 14" light hats for pennies (like new!) They remind me so much of the 70's black label 2002 hats...keeping everything else as well, though!

    just raided my christmas fund and bought the , the light ride and the medium and light 18" crash's after watching your video, i have been playing the medium hi hats for a while and love them, better than the light and heavy which i bought a year or so ago, in fact i like them more than the signature dark crisp hat's that iv'e had for a few years, the rides and crash's i have not used at a gig yet but will be doing tomorrow night so we will see how they perform, i have also the medium ride which i got second hand and i'll try that tomorrow night as well in place of my lovely 505 medium ride which iv'e had for years, i normally use signature 12 splash 14-16-17 fast crash's and a 18 full crash and sometimes an 18" 505 crash but it's always nice to have a change now and again, thank's for your very informative video, you should be on a commission from paiste. keep music live. !!!

    Ive always been a Zildjian A guy. But I started off by hearing a PST X 16 Swiss crash and I favored the sound over any Zildjian china boy I ever owned. So I bought the 16 and 14. I ended up using the 14 as a trash stack and its awesome. I was carrying cymbals back and forth to two different drum sets for awhile. My home kit was lacking on the cymbal side so to save money I bought a set of PST7 universal and I do love them. For the price they are absolutely great! I don't love them more than my A's but I can say that in this price range they destroy their competitors. If I ever buy another more expensive set I will probably go with one of the higher end Paiste series. They make some nice stuff. Thanks for all of your work and videos to help the drum playing community Mr. Beatdown Brown!

      +Mark Doran Yea, man. I mean, the 2002s are some of the best sounding cymbals on the planet. But I think these plates will make you pretty happy as a good set of jobbing cymbals. My only advice, like I mentioned in the video, is that if you're thinking of getting a 16", move up to the heavy one. The medium is a little light in the projection department.

    Went the whole gamut of cymbals over the years. From Turks/Agops/Bosphorus to Zildjian keropes and Sabian HH. Played a Paiste 602 3 years ago, never looked back. Now have a set of Masters Dark with some 602.
    Nobody, IMO, does the magic of B8 cymbals like Paiste does. And the PST7 series has to be the most underrated cymbal in the market place. Another Paiste sleeper is the new 900 series. I have tried the 22" 900 Ride in a jazz context. Beautiful!

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  6 лет назад +1

      +PapaG Cortellino I’ve said for a long time now that any cymbal you play will sound great...until you compare it to a Paiste. Your ears just reset and all you seem to notice from that cymbal you thought was hot is what’s missing. The highest end cymbals from other companies just sound harsh and brittle to me now. It’s like going back to 720p after watching a video in 4K. Paiste’s will ruin you for other cymbals, man.

    • @papagcortellino5283
      @papagcortellino5283 6 лет назад

      Rob, totally agree. I love flats. Have owned Agop Flat, Bos Master flat and even a Byzance Club flat. Tho all good in their own right, once I tried Paiste, there was nothing else. They all seemed so semi-pro, where Paiste really shines, IMO. I have since acquired a 602 flat, a Sig flat, a Sound Formula Flat and a 2002 flat (rare, and a keeper). Also have a 20 Masters Dark and 22 Crisp. Only wish Paiste offered a Masters flat. I'd be on it.
      Thanks for all you do.

    This is a fantastic review of the Paiste PST 7's. I'm new to drumming - got an old (and I mean OLD!) drum given to me by a friend. The cymbals are really cruddy sounding (lots of discoloration/corrosion) - yeah, I need to get some cymbals! I've done plenty of research, and I've decided that when I get paid again, I'm gettin' some Paiste PST 7's! BTW, I love the track you were playing to - flippin' awesome!! No one but Paiste has got it right with B8. Zildjian and Sabian, this is how B8 is done. I bought a set of PST7's specifically for practice, but they're better than being just a practice set and sound great live. I use them a lot live now and the new 19'' crash Paiste have brought out in this range sounds great as well. More than worth the money and well worth getting a set

    I stumbled upon this video awhile back, after I already purchased a used medium weight pack of these PST7's. I'm still a beginner but after messing around and getting a better ear for cymbals and sound, I had to have that 20" light ride. Found a good deal on a used one. It really does make for a very nice crash. I've been searching to find a used 16" heavy crash but no luck. Like he mentions in the video, the 16" medium crash is definitely the weakest sounding of the pack. I found that used heavy crash today and ordered. 460 bucks all in, not including what I'll get when I sell the medium 16". Can't go wrong there!

I've got to say, I think Paiste has wiped out the competition with this line. Nothing about these sounds beginner or intermediate to me, honestly. I have owned some different Sound Formulas, 2002's and Alphas. I would gladly practice / record / gig with the PST 7 line. And thanks again for making an awesome demonstration of these. Keep up the great work with your videos!

    What's your opinion of Meinl classic custom cymbals in brilliant finish, if may ask? Excellent playing, btw.

      Yeah buddy. Now I gotta watch your vid on those heads. And does Yamaha make those wood hoops? I would assume so since Anton Fig's kit w wood hoops on David Letterman has always been Yamaha.

    Are these good for worship or should I buy something else? Also I'm looking for something that sounds good and works in church for under 200 dollars.

    Paiste just introduced a 17" and 19" in their medium PST 7 crashes!!! Now they need to make some 15" hats, even some sound edge, 22", and 24" ride! I'm playing a set of PST 7's.....the whole medium boxed set, plus a 16" and 18" thin crashes. And they actually even out and sound better over time. I've recorded some bar gigs, and the cymbals sound just like 2002's on the recording.....can't tell them apart. And looking at them.....you can't really tell them from 2002's, unless you look at the top "PST 7" logo. You can't go wrong with Paiste, and I think Meinl is heading that direction also. I've heard some awesome things about UFIP too, but you can't hardly find them anywhere.

      +Randy Woolum Im pretty excited about that 19", man. Definitely grabbing one. I got my eye on a couple of them new 2002 Big Beat dishes too. Gorgeous looking cymbals.

      ***** I ended up purchasing an entirely new setup for gigs and put my other kit in our rehearsal room which includes all my PST 7's. My gigging kit has a set of the original 2002's.....just got them. 15" S.E. Hi-Hats, 16,17,18, and 19 crashes, 22 ride, and 10 splash.....all brand new. Nothing thin or heavy, everything is the standard 2002's. And I'm definitely noticing a difference between the PST 7's and original 2002's.....while not a difference of awesome vs. junk. The PST 7's are fabulous, but I notice the 2002's sustain longer, crispier tone, and cut a little better. But the PST 7's are by far the best 'intermediate' level cymbals there are...I did gig with them for quite a while and was never disappointed.

      @Rick Delair My original post is 3 years old now, but about 2 years ago I purchased an entire lineup of 2002's. 16,17,18,19,20 crashes, 22 Ride, 15 SE Hi-Hats, 20 China, and 10 Splash, although I'm not using all of them every gig, but I've never been disappointed. I was sad to say goodbye to the money because they were all brand new and extremely expensive lol, but for my classic rock band, they're perfect. I've had Zildjian, and Sabian, and I'd never say they were junk because they're not, I just like paiste better. I've kept my PST 7 set on my rehearsal kit, and they're still great!

    Hey Rob, can you do a review of the PST 4 Universal set? They sound so good that I would choose them over many high end cymbals...even if they were all offered for free! I'm wondering if there is something that I'm not getting.
