Hey y’all, I’m George Shleppeck (probably spelled his name wrong) and here is a Zildjibian 6’ AAX Custom Paper Thick Kinda medium crash smash splash trash bash cymbal. *ting* “Okay thanks for watching, you can buy this exact cymbal at MyCymbal.com
haha, totally, I was just telling my friend the other day how it drives me nuts when you have guys tapping on bells in demo vids of hi hats, crashes etc... playing it every which way except the way you would actually play it, haha.
i cannot stress enough how much I love watching your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious, your knowledge is vast and your humor is off the charts! Awesome !!
I've owned 4 pst7s including a 20" light ride and have hit some at stores...imo the gem of the line is the 19" thin crash. The one I have goes in my "I'll never get rid of this cymbal" category. For 140 beans shipped new it cant beat.
I'm with you Rob, I'd add the 18" thin to that category as well. I use the pst7 18 and 19 thin crashes with my pst7 20 ride, 2002 SE hats, 2002 17 thin, and a pstx 18 thin. Love the pst7 as a supplement to my 2002.
I can't believe you don't get free equipment from Paiste! Have you discussed this with them? You're giving them free advertising--AND you're a fabulous drummer!!!! They'd be lucky to sponsor your channel!
There are two times over the years I asked Paiste about anything 'endorser-wise'. The first was in 1999 when a producer/studio owner my band at the time was working with was very impressed with my 602s and 2002s. I told him he should call Paiste and get a deal, that I thought they'd jump at the chance to have a relatively big Chicago studio have Paistes as the 'house cymbals'.. At the time his studio had a lot of high profile bands going thru, and he also had/has his name on a lot of bigger name recordings as engineer and producer; he was perfect for a deal for Paiste (as all the bands that came thru would see/hear his Paistes and hopefully be as impressed as he was with mine and go out & buy them). He laughed off the notion and sarcastically said that I should do it for him. So I went to the studio phone, called Paiste (800 number-on a Saturday night), left a message that said: "My name is so-and-so and I have a well known studio in Chicago and I have a band in and the drummer has all these great Paiste cymbals and they sound great, and could I have a deal. I'm high profile in the recording world", etc.. Sort of like the Risky Business's Miles calling the hooker "Hi, I'm Joel Goodsen and I'd like a good time in my home tonight" kind of thing.. Paiste called him back two days later and gave him a deal-the type where he'd get great great prices on the stuff. The other time was just a few years ago: I called them and told them about a Zep tribute band I was playing with and if they could give them (the band/band king) a deal on the 38" Symphonic gong (they had a few different drummers and most of the drum gear was the band-king's) as the gongs are so pricey-but the Paiste name is emblazoned right there for everyone to see... They turned it down as "everyone knows Bonham played Paiste". Which of course is true... All the other calls I made were to give them my unsolicited opinion on cymbals. I'm sure I drove them crazy!
Hey, it was worth the try! When I was a commercial photographer in NYC I always called up companies and asked for deals. Polaroid have me free film in exchange for using one of my images on their Type 52 film (4x5). Another interesting deal I made--a drummer named Tony Verdarosa gave Vic Firth one of my copyrighted images to use for their ads in Modern Drummer mag without adding my permission. Obviously, an artist/company has to pay for the rights to use a photographers work in advertising. I called Vic Firth--they were SO nice! I let them have the image in exchange for a box of jazz sticks! Ha! :) Anyway, I think you should get ALL of your equipment for free... Your videos are fun, informative, and just...well, I learn something from all of them and I can't even physically play anymore! :) Thanks for sharing the stories, Terry! Bhakti
You sir, are a maniac. Great videos. My first "real" crash years ago was an 18" 404 - It is still one of the greatest sounding crashes I've heard. I thought I'd lucked out w a super cymbal, but sounds like Paiste just understands how to get the most out of those cheaper alloys.
Got my dream cymbals today! I've got a 16" thin crash, an 18" thin crash, 14" heavy hats and a 20" heavy ride. Those work perfectly for rock and metal!
I know this is old but I hope you're doing well! After the hundreds of drum and cymbal videos I've watch ranging from a kid playing in the corner of his bedroom to the big time fancy production studios and retailers you are by far my favorite person to watch on the topic. You're very knowledgeable with a sense of humor that I can dig. You just convinced me to return my Planet Z's and get an open box set of PST 7's for a little more. My ears keep drawing me to the 7's after countless videos even though I'm not a drummer yet but I want my first set to be inspiring to play as well as encourage my wife to play like shes been wanting to. Thank YOU!
That "ring" out of the 2002s was one of the first sound characteristics coming to my ears the first time I listened to "Live In Japan" - Deep Purple...Very distinctive, like a "soft circular saw" in the end of each cymbal stroke. It made me love Paiste! Something cutting but still consistent.
This video was instrumental (no pun) in my decision to get PST7s when I recently got back into acoustic drumming. Ok, I was on a bit of a budget (but since I went for 14 med hats, 16 med crash and crucially the 18 thin crash, it still represented a sizeable investment for me), but your comments in this video about how and why the PST7 makes sense gave me confidence in the purchase. I too am a Paiste zealot. Not based on first hand knowledge, so to speak, as I haven't played anything else. Fact is I never would want to. My irrational allegiance is based purely on childhood idols playing Paiste and thus it's always represented the dream to me. I went for the 2002 for my ride, however. The PST7 rides just didn't do it for me when I played them in the shop, whereas the 2002 had the same brightness, but with added warmth. It sounded the real deal. And that's the brilliant thing about my PST7 crashes and hats. They may only be impersonating an expensive cymbal, but by God it's a bloody good impersonation. Dead ringers, one might say. I play them and there's no sense of compromise. Not to my uncritical ears anyway.
Thanks for the great info, I love watching your videos because it's like we're hanging out! I've found the 2002 on Musician's Friend and probably going to get it as well as the 7.
@@bonzoleum I love it. I have compared it to my 19 2002 crash and it's very close. At a fraction of the price! I don't know how Paiste does it but I'm glad they do.
Your videos are great, help me a lot on buying cymbals, and are so hilarious... your sounds, hahahhaa!!... love your videos.... and the "prrrrrrrrrrrrrriinnnnnggggg".... i can´t stop laughing the first time a saw this video...
Just ordered some PST 7's - Medium Hats, 16/18 Thin Crashes, and Light Ride...if they sound anything like this in person, Paiste probably will in fact cannibalize the upper 2002 line like you're saying. They seem like a great option for people without a ton of cash to drop on cymbals. Great videos btw.
I have more comments - This video has inspired me to look a little more deeply into that sustained ring of paiste's. I totally want a 2002 now! Messing around with their sound files on their website your telephone bell comparison is a great example and now I long for that sound!
Hilarious that you mentioned the telephone ringing / 2002 comparison. As a kid, I'd be listening to Zeppelin and at times, think I heard the phone in the other room... due to that frequency bit.
Thanks! I loved your explanation regarding how B8 sounds better from farther away. Spot on. I have been using Paiste for 25 years and I always have said it was because they have more "sound". At concerts, zildjian and sabian almost sound gated, if heard at all, from the crowd. The 2002's, 505's, and now PST 7 are the most noticeable but even the signatures have more glassy qualities than any zildjian or sabian I've ever heard and the craftsmanship is far superior with Paiste. Thanks for the videos!
I think you are right on I need the PAISTE KNOWS B8 T-shirt. People in this country never understood "medium".... it was a heavier crash with ride properties. Now most places dumb it down and say it's a medium crash whatever that is
Funny shit! I hate the tapping too! And thanks for using the Bass drum! Cause that's the real sound to me. It's already to hit it plain, and most do, but you didnt! Thank God! Lets face it, when we are playing, 95 percent of the time I hit a crash, my bass foot automatically clicks in at the same time. To me that is the pure beauty of these brilliant pieces of fucking metal! Lol!
I agree - they are using the same blanks - the basic disc is cut, and they are all the same, then depending upon the hammering and lathing technique - that determines which "type" and category it goes into.
Man I loved this, thanks! I actually "prefer" some of the lower line cymbals sounds too, when at a place like GC or pawn shops I always test out the budget or used B8's XS's ect... & am suprised at how good some of em sound (& of course buy
At last someone who's noticed the telephone ringing sound that 2002s give. Have a listen to the AC/DC album For Those About To Rock. That ringing sound is so evident. Back in the day I genuinely used to think the phone was ringing.
I think that album has the best sounding cymbals I've ever heard. I remember in 1980 when it came out, that immediately caught my attention. It is still one of my go-to albums on why I became a Paiste nut.
I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this presentation! Did the excitement and energy… And totally believe that the PST 7 Is a fantastic line. I’m even wondering if the price will eventually go up on those… Or they will be limited to a very short time span. I’m a professional driver and have been for 30 years and I started with 404 simple package and a 2002 thin ride. The PST7 knocks me out with their short Sustain… Perfect for studio and smaller live situations. Getting some very soon
3:10 - 3:50 "what we're lookin at here I think is a pst5 blank.." at 3:49 "...and this is the pst5, Ugghh had to get that out of my system" the *ughh* sound he makes is priceless I cannot stop watching it, guys a yapping enthusiast on these cymbals
Awesome video bud. But out f the 4 18" crash cymbals you played I preferred PST5 thin crash & the 505 crash. The 2002's are lovely cymbals but to me they have a smokiness to them where the 505 & PST5 have a nice bright zing to them.
The Pst7 cymbals are great, I don't understand why people judges the quality of a cymbals because of the price, follow your ears guys ! I am a proud owner of a Pst7 18" Heavy crash, sounds fantastic and let's not question the price !
I LOVE Paiste, and Im SOOO happy they made these... its like the 2002's of the PST family... I love the fact that Paiste (unlike the bastards at Zildjian and other major brands) makes affordable beginner/bargain cymbals... that actualy sound not just good... but GREAT! .. SO damn good that it makes you almost wonder why anyone would spend all that extra money on a real 2002!!!?? However! I rescently discovered this brand of cymbals... I traded a couple of mics and some other junk for 3 cymbals. ! was a cracked and repaired 1950's Zildjian Avedis 20" Ride.. and 2 of them were a brand Ide never heard of, but they immediately caught my eye because they were HUGE and also the hammering and lathing were obviously very high end work. They were "Dream" cymbals.. One is a Dream 24" Bliss small belled Ride..(it has a couple of chunks cut out where it had cracked, but still sounds amazing) and the other was a Dream Vintage Bliss 22" Crash/Ride.. Its perfectly fine but well played.. AND OMFG... I love Paiste, but I now am all about Dream cymbals.. For the Money They are THE BEST sounding cymbals you can get if you have a lil more money... They are b-20, hand hammered cymbals. I love their company now that ive learned how they work... They make only top of the line products, but they don't charge top of the line prices... for $150 you can buy a big ass crash from them that sounds as good or better then most $350 crashes... CHECK EM OUT!!! www.dreamcymbals.com/
Do you remember the sound formula from pasite that was my first cymbal i very heard and fell in love with that series. Beautiful sound i will never here that sound again. Love ur video. Thank you
That MyCymbal dot com Diss at the beginning was awesome. :) wish me luck with the WAF guys planning on getting a 2002 22" Ride + PST7 10" splash weeks from now...
I am planning to buy Paiste 2002 Medium Hi Hats (black label) at a 33% discount. Can anyone please give their feedback or suggestions about this cymbal. Thank you in advance.
I started on Zildjians, went to 2002 Paiste and 505 Paiste china and now I use Sabians. 2002's are the best sounding line of cymbal I've ever played even the 2002 power ride, but I couldn't keep them from cracking :( so I had to switch. There was one 16inch Zildjian paper thin crash from the 70's my friend gave me that was....AAHHHHH....beautiful...but I cracked it :(.
This guy is AWSOME, HE INCORPORATES humor, knowledge, and useful information, you can tell, he loves what he does, he has so much knowledge that, he can't get it out sometimes, love the reviews bud, he is the ultimate medicine for us drum\ music geeks!!!!!!
Dude, a bit late to the game with the comments on it, but ANYWAY! Your dig at cymbal.com made me bust a gut! I had an 18" PST7 china, and that thing sounded great but split along the'inner edge' or crest or whatever it is called, the "change in direction of the bow" part after 2 months. I was sad. But I do hit like a gorilla. Any issues with durablity with others you noticed? Just subscribed. You have an entertaining personality, and it is fun to watch your videos and how you go off on a tangent. Cracks me up.
That ringing pitch you are talking about is dead on. LOL In singing that sound you are talking about is called the singer's formant, and it resides between 2.8Khz and 3.4Khz. It enables singer to cut through the music. And it does the same thing for cymbals.
😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂 “ it drives me…. Fffffffuckin crazy”😂😂😂😂😂😳❤️❤️❤️❤️. So awesome brother!!!! I’m about to buy another paiste. Can’t really afford the GB right now & im checking on these pst7s. I remembered you’ve critiqued these b4 & wanted a review.
Just bought a PST7 19" Thin crash. Thanks for this comparison. Trying to decide whether to keep it or return it and splurge for either an 18" 2002 or 18" Giant Beat to pair with my 20" GB Multi. The 19" PST7 is interesting in it's own right and I like the 19 size. 🤔
I actually prefer the sound of the pst 7 cymbal. But im not one who likes the long sustain or ring as you refer to it. I think the pst 7s are by far the best bargain value of any cymbals on the market from any company. You can get 14 inch hi-hats, a 16 inch crash, and a 20 inch ride in a set for only 397 dollars and they offer the sets in thin, medium, or heavy, whatever you prefer. Man no one else comes even close to that good of a sound for that low of price. There's a lot of guys that spend that much for just one cymbal but the quality of sound isn't that much better than the pst 7s. Love your videos Terry, they are helpful.
You know I just thought of something...I wonder if the newer PST 5's are lathed on the underside of the cymbal...the older ones didn't appear to have any lathing to speak of underneath. The only reason I wonder is because I've never seen any of the newer PST 5 stuff in the stores near me, and I've never seen any pictures of the underside. Just curious.
I got one recently but it came blended, not too bad but is kinda noticeable to the eye in some weird way, i guess my brain is trained to see perfect rounded cymbals and with this thin crash is obvious that something isn't right, there is a safe correct way to fix it without causing any harm to the cymbal?
Man I'm looking at getting a full set of PST7s just don't know if I should go thin or medium the Heavies are just too heavy ,so I guess I'll go medium I'll probably get the set with the 16 in. Swiss .Anyway Hey to George 🤘✌
frotis lover I think they're overall too heavy for my purposes, but the Reflector lathing employed on them is great for the tone of a cymbal. Check out those hats on the website!
How much drum equipment do you have? My good lord man, I’d be like a kid in a candy store if I ever had the chance to visit. Your humor is contagious and you have great technique and style. Much respect from the drumming community 🥁 Edit: I really dig the PST-5 series especially any thin crashes
I love your videos. I just picked up a vintage 20" Sound Creations Bright Ride cymbal and am curious as to what type and size Paiste crash and hi-hats you would recommend in pairing with it. I am looking for moreSound Creation cymbals ideally, but am open to trying other Paiste's while I take my time to find them as they don't seem to come up too often on eBay. I mainly play classic rock and blues. Thanks for your help!
Jack Crouse I'd say get the 602's or the Masters or the Twenty Custom. Of course you could get anything, but sticking to B20 works if you want to keep your cymbals in the same SC vibe-area!
I have a 1976 2002 18" ride that I rarely use as a ride but I use it all the time as a crash...what is your opinion?to me it sounds amazing!do I hurt the cymbal?
hey bonzo, one last question regarding putting pair of hihats together. whats your take regarding 16” 505 crash... should i use as top (1029)and power crash 400 (1275)bottom or 505 bottom and pst7 thin top (840)? merry xmas btw🎄
Hey Terry!! Great video!! I have a question. What do you think is better the PST 5 Universal set or the Rock set?? Looking to get one of those. Thanks.
The MyCymbal Rant was one of the funniest/truest statements I have ever heard. Huge fan from Australia, Keep it up man.
"You go to watch the sample, the guy is like... THAT DRIVES ME FUCKIN CRAZY."
same thing with the chinas ... go hit the damn thing already! gosh!
8:05 "And that is my opinion, but it's also true..." Probably one of Bonzoleum's best line, you're hilarious man!
That line was awesome! (only caught on the channel now, so excuse lateness)
haha, totally, I was just telling my friend the other day how it drives me nuts when you have guys tapping on bells in demo vids of hi hats, crashes etc... playing it every which way except the way you would actually play it, haha.
Demonic Sweaters true
So true. That drives me crazy too. It's like, just hit the freaking thing. Nobody cares about the bell.
This guy just ripped into MyCymbal.com i love it!
i cannot stress enough how much I love watching your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious, your knowledge is vast and your humor is off the charts! Awesome !!
1:07 OMG I LAUGHED SO HARD, THATS SO TRUE

Terrific, Rob! “They’ll have to pry this cymbal from my cold, dead hands.....”
:D
I'm with you Rob, I'd add the 18" thin to that category as well. I use the pst7 18 and 19 thin crashes with my pst7 20 ride, 2002 SE hats, 2002 17 thin, and a pstx 18 thin. Love the pst7 as a supplement to my 2002.
I've not watched one of Bonzoleum's videos in such a long time and I LOVE the enthusiasm you bring. Another fan from Australia.

Bhakti, thank you sincerely for your kinds words!
bonzoleum the hilarious thing is that Paiste recently gave an endorsement to a 14 year old girl who’s an Instagram drummer.

21:34 - I want that shirt too "Paiste knows B8"

Sold....just picked up an 18" PST 7 crash. Bonzoleum, really enjoy your channel and videos. Thank you!
AWESOME video !!!! I REALLY enjoyed this. And I totally agree with you; the 2002 sounds incredible.
I resonate with the Mycymbal.com stuff about as much as a paiste 80" symphonic gong resonated ... subbed!
Glad I'm not the only one frustrated about Memphis Drum Shop's cymbal demos. 😂
That PST 7 18" thin crash is the sound I've been looking for. I was thinking Zildjian 16" fast crash, but no. This is it.
great video and insight into the Paiste lines-thanks!

Thank you, Diddi!
I always played 2002s but these cymbals sound amazing. The 10 inch splash is great, and I want one.
Watching you in 2023 and you are still the same.
Yes-they're like "2002 SHORT CRASHES", but the bigger bell (than 2002) gives a louder initial crash. Thanks for the comment!
Yes the Zildjian A Series! Is it worth to get the Pst7s over them?
3:10 - 3:50 "what we're lookin at here I think is a pst5 blank.." at 3:49 "...and this is the pst5, Ugghh had to get that out of my system" the *ughh* sound he makes is priceless I cannot stop watching it, guys a yapping enthusiast on these cymbals
thank you for the review. very informative
Great video! Love to see and hear the differences!
Thanks EZ!
Idk why but you come off as the Jay Leno of drums lol. Makes me think of Jay Leno's love for cars. Anyways love man!
Thank you, CG!!!
Awesome video bud. But out f the 4 18" crash cymbals you played I preferred PST5 thin crash & the 505 crash. The 2002's are lovely cymbals but to me they have a smokiness to them where the 505 & PST5 have a nice bright zing to them.
I like your style man, gimme more
The PST series is surprisingly good for the price. I wish they were available when I first started out. It took me months to save up for a 2002.
The Pst7 cymbals are great, I don't understand why people judges the quality of a cymbals because of the price, follow your ears guys ! I am a proud owner of a Pst7 18" Heavy crash, sounds fantastic and let's not question the price !
Comment at 1.30 you nailed it (Y) nice sounding set.PST7
Great and helpful video! I was wondering, should I save for these PST7's or wait some longer for some Zildjian A's? Which would be a better choice?
Bought the pack of these yesterday, im eagerly waiting for them to arrive in the mail haha

Excellent Review, Looking at these Pst7 Heavy or the PST8s Rock :)
Hahaha. Love your comment about mycymbal. Amazing. They really don't do great reviews if you play rock music. Thanks!
Great video Terry!!
I just bought the 16" thin Pst 7 crash it sounds great..Your right Paiste has all cymbal companies beat when it comes to B8 bronze
I told Erik Paiste they should use the slogan PAISTE KNOWS B8.
Do you remember the sound formula from pasite that was my first cymbal i very heard and fell in love with that series. Beautiful sound i will never here that sound again. Love ur video. Thank you
Hahah I agree with you about my cymbal.com
Lol I hate videos like that took , great video !
Love it Terry 🤘🥁🥁❤️
That MyCymbal dot com Diss at the beginning was awesome. :) wish me luck with the WAF guys planning on getting a 2002 22" Ride + PST7 10" splash weeks from now...
I wish you luck! A 22" Paiste 2002 RIDE model is one of my favorites.
I am planning to buy Paiste 2002 Medium Hi Hats (black label) at a 33% discount. Can anyone please give their feedback or suggestions about this cymbal. Thank you in advance.
i agree dude. these poncy reviews where they should hit the fucker hard, but they do this kind of badminton pose before they hit it
I started on Zildjians, went to 2002 Paiste and 505 Paiste china and now I use Sabians.
I really appreciate the kind words, Phil! Thank you!
Art Pereira it’s not the cymbal , it’s your technique .
"drives me fucking crazy"
lmfao hahahah. awsome review man
Yessss! I totally agree about how some of these companies tap and ride on a crash. Hit that shit. Cheers.
THAT WAS A PRETTY SOLID TAKE ON MY CYMBAL DOT COM
That ringing pitch you are talking about is dead on. LOL
In singing that sound you are talking about is called the singer's formant, and it resides between 2.8Khz and 3.4Khz.
Hi Keith! Thank you!
@@bonzoleum thank you, Terry!
PST 7 is a fantastic line of cymbals, paiste is the greatest!
Ahhhh yes there it is. All 3 sound good together
There is a phone ringing in the mix of the "The Ocean", If I'm remembering right, it's in the outro.
Swiss .Anyway Hey to George 🤘✌
thanks for your quick reply. what do you think about the pst8s? more specifically the 12" hats I'm curious about
frotis lover I think they're overall too heavy for my purposes, but the Reflector lathing employed on them is great for the tone of a cymbal. Check out those hats on the website!
How much drum equipment do you have? My good lord man, I’d be like a kid in a candy store if I ever had the chance to visit. Your humor is contagious and you have great technique and style. Much respect from the drumming community 🥁
Edit: I really dig the PST-5 series especially any thin crashes
You Sir, have just earned a subscriber.
Thanks, Bryan! Stay well and keep drumming!
I have a 1976 2002 18" ride that I rarely use as a ride but I use it all the time as a crash...what is your opinion?to me it sounds amazing!do I hurt the cymbal?
hey bonzo,
one last question regarding putting pair of hihats together.
whats your take regarding 16” 505 crash... should i use as top (1029)and power crash 400 (1275)bottom or 505 bottom and pst7 thin top (840)?
merry xmas btw🎄
Hi C! I say you mix and match. Try all the combinations.
Can you do me a favor and play on the pst7 thin crash 18 like a light ride with the medium pst7 hats please?
thanks much
:It's f**king crash cymbal. The first thing you should f**king do is..." Hahahaha LMAO!
Hey Terry!! Great video!! I have a question. What do you think is better the PST 5 Universal set or the Rock set?? Looking to get one of those. Thanks.
+Sandy I'd say the Universal. Thanks Sandy!
+bonzoleum Thanks a lot!!
That '76 2002 is the most amazing thing I've ever heard. It's like, too perfect
Dudes either a cymbal guru or a damn good bull shitter. Very knowledgeable! Either way I just became a fan!
Musician to Musician he's 100% correct
Hilarious! Great video! I'm currently on ebay looking for a mink coat.
