  • Top 4 Gynecological Myths in Fibroids and UFE
    Uterine fibroid embolization or UFE is one of the biggest medical breakthroughs for women suffering with uterine fibroids.
    Dr. Lipman and the Atlanta Fibroid Center has one of the world’s largest experience in this amazing procedure . He was the first to perform UFE in Georgia and has treated over 7,000 women over the past 23 years.
    Despite the very long track record of safety and efficacy of the UFE procedure, most women who are suffering with fibroids and seek help from their Ob/Gyn will not hear about this amazing procedure.
    Therefore, the first myth that you may hear from your doctor is “Your only option to treat your fibroids is surgery (either hysterectomy if you’re not interested in fertility or myomectomy if you are)."
    Why would your doctor not tell you about UFE if they know about this non-surgical option? Quite simply, many Ob/Gyns would rather attempt to treat the patient with surgery as they are trained surgeons.

    Greaaaaaasat Thanx......the possibilities for new fibroids????

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  3 года назад +6

      We see everyone in follow up 3 months after the embolization. If the fibroids are dead as they should be, and if the patient is over 40yrs of age, likely they wouldn't have enough time to grow new fibroids before menopause. Therefore, for most women it will be a "one and done." Even on the rare occasion of needing a second embolization, 2 UFE procedures are way better than one surgery !

    Im searching about this procedure and will go through this procedure no hysterectomy!! Do u recommend ufe by the groin or the radial vein ( near the wrist)?
    Which is less risky?

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  2 года назад

      The groin is much closer and has less risk (not that the radial approach is risky) than the wrist approach.

      No, not likely; particularly if you’re over 40yrs of age.

    I called your clinic last week, after seeing you do post menaposal UFE's. However, I was told I was too old for the this procedure. They said your age cut off was 64? If this is true, can you explain why? Wouldn't a hysterectomy be more risky? Thank you

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  11 месяцев назад

      There is not a specific age cut off. We do treat some post-menopausal patients if they have symptomatic fibroids despite being in menopause.

    I heard from a doctor that the UFE procedure only reduces the size of the fibroids by only 30%. Is that true?

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  2 года назад +3

      No, it's not. The success of the UFE procedure depends on the death of all of the fibroids. It does not depend on the amount the fibroids shrink; although they typically shrink 40-50% by 3 months post-UFE and 60-70% 6months-1yr out. Even if fibroids only shrank 30%, if they are all dead all of the symptoms go away and that is what matters most. You need to discuss your case with an experienced Interventional Radiologist. 1:10 only 60% people became pregnant, may i know that 40% are they not able to get pregnant bec of UFE? or they might have any other reasons?

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  2 месяца назад +1

      Our women are often older which decreases fertility. In addition, a number of them have already had a myomectomy which also significantly decreases their fertility. 60% is a pretty good percentage and comparable to surgery. Learn more at ATLii.com
