CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Joe (Brad Pitt) tries peanut butter for the first time and decides that he really likes it.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The cycle of life on Earth hangs in the balance when Death becomes emotionally involved in this romantic fantasy. William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) is a tremendously wealthy and powerful man who oversees a worldwide multi-media empire. Despite the loss of his wife, whom he dearly loved, William is content with his life, and he's very close to his two daughters, Allison (Marcia Gay Harden) and Susan (Claire Forlaini). One night, as William is fighting a hostile takeover of his company and Allison is planning an elaborate party to celebrate her dad's 65th birthday, William begins displaying the symptoms of a severe heart attack, and he is visited by a mysterious stranger, Joe Black (Brad Pitt). Joe is actually the angel of death, who has taken the form of a man who recently passed on to pay William a call. It seems that William is due to move on to the next world, but (no great surprise) he doesn't want to go. Joe, on the other hand, is curious to know what life is like for mere mortals, so the two men strike a deal -- William will have some time to get his affairs in order, and Joe will wait and see what it's like to be a human being. Joe decides that he likes it very much when he falls in love with Susan, but negotiating the slippery slopes of romance is no easier for Joe than for any ordinary man. Meet Joe Black is an updated version of Alberto Casella's play Death Takes a Holiday, which was adapted for the screen in 1934.

The guy probably just earned himself 20 more years.
I would've gave him an extra 5 for using a different spoon.
And when the time comes that he dies, he will be offered a position in Death's court as the royal keeper of peanut butter
@@GIJesse-xo1vl i would have given it to him on the bread
Y'all better have peanut butter with you all the time. Cause you never know who you are going to meet.
On the contrary, if he believes that skippy is on the top, i wouldve took a year off of him
I like the way the butler uses a clean spoon for joe’s second taste and not dip the spoon he had in his mouth back in the jar
George would stick the spoon back in the jar.
The first thought that hit my mind when he asked for a second taste was whether the butler would double dip...but I knew he was a professional and would do the right thing. ;)
I'm here after COVID.
The first spoon he gave back still had so much on it tho 🥺
A TRUE BUTLER
i think the best part of the scene is that its such an innocent discovery of a new experience. also, through out the whole scene death shows absolute respect and manners to the service staff and never once showing superiority or arrogance. this is a pure character.
well, it makes perfect sense to me - everyone's equal in the eyes of death
Death is a servant too after all
Why should he show any arrogance? First of all he doesn't have a social rank among humans, and secondly.. to him it makes very little difference whether it's a servant or a king - to a bee the queen bee might be important, but from an elephant's perspective it's still just a bee.
Exactly. Death holds nothing against anyone. He has no grudges. He's doing his job and he does it well. He hates no one and probably holds more respect for the people he helps along their journey. In some ways he probably envys them since he is not allowed to go on such journeys himself.
How to escape from death, give it peanut butter
Joana Ferreira unless you have a peanut allergy, which is fairly common
"...for no one can escape me, but I will be sporting. I will not take vengeance now if you can answer my riddle. What does it take to defeat death?" A quote from the Reaper from the comic book, 'Weird War Stories'.
@@edmundnschrag Well, you're giving Death the peanut butter...not yourself. ;)
@@davidcraig9779 "As you are, I was. As I am, you will be." A quote from something older.
Or a puppy!
He is just brilliant in this scene. I love all his facial expressions. So childlike and full of wonder and joy
yeah, pause on 2:22 best facial expression ever made....
Ikr there is something about it that just makes him look so innocent.
this is the best peanut butter comercial ever made by mankind, lol
With death as the special guest.
Crunchy or Smooth? (i like crunchy)
Kate and Leopold’s movie scene is quite good as well.
People miss one important element in this scene. Death shows respect and grace to everyone, rich or poor.
No matter who you are-rich or poor, CEO or servant, living or dead-there's always peanut butter.
Like watching Starman taste his first pie.
The child like wonder, the score, the nuances in the performance, and to top it off the score. This scene and movie is a masterpiece.
Yes it was.Watched it untold times. But the first is always the best.
So adorably awkward
I love that death, one of the most significant of all beings in creation, is depicted as being as being so humble.
Did u guys notice how brad pitt laughs his ass off as he exits the scene
He wasn't laughing. He was stretching his mouth bc it's cementing shut from the peanut butter.
I did not notice it , but sense you brought it up I had to see it ,yeap he did
That is awesome you noticed that lol
@@KatherineZeGreat uh not that. It was a silent scream of joy like when a child first tastes icecream!
Peanut butter high
The butler is so nice and kind 🥺💖
You gotta be really talented to pretend you are mr.death tasting peanut butter (or anything) for the first time!Amazing acting as always Brat.Go and adopt kids now.
I like Carl Sagan so much
Hariharan G How do you feel about Richard Feynman?
Brat?
He kinda gave me a Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka vibe honestly.
2:22 he can't hold it in anymore
The man in the sweater vest is totally down with death's social skills. An adorable scene!
His face when he turns the door in the end 😂🥰💕
Hai darling karolina...
i always wonder if this was on the scene or not
@@VjAdrasaVideos it fits well with the character, because he's a cute weirdo... or Brad doesn't like peanut butter 😂
@@karolinabirkbarreto4419 lol
Holy crap Brad Pitt is gorgeous. It's almost surreal.
Pup lover lets see how you look in 20yrs
He's not a kid anymore but he's still prettier than your mama
@Boston 508617 he does not look like that dude. He looks great for a guy in his early 50s and he has a great physique that he maintains.
@Boston 508617 plus he never had plastic surgery.. So father time did act naturally.
Hes so pretty in this movie
Thomas Newman scores this scene brilliantly. The eerie piano notes at the end of a charming light composition to highlight Deaths naivety but still with a sense of darkness
It has a light tone but also uses bells that are reminiscent of funeral bells.
He's so adorable I'm gonna die.
This is one of my favourite scenes in the whole movie. The butler is great!
Mine too! So well played!
Right? The actor of the butler is really good, too. I love his dynamic with Brad Pitt.
he sooooo cute when he is clueless
That was so cute and innocent
Maddie M but it’s death at the same time 😀
Brad Pitt is impeccable. The way he portrays the innocence of Joe with those childlike mannerisms! Another actor womight have made this look so ridiculous, wheras Brad just nails it and makes it look so easy.
FYI: The actor of the butler is really good, too. I love his dynamic with Brad Pitt.
I'm watching eating peanut butter 😂
I wish I was peanut butter
usagi18 i wished this too 😂😂
No need to BE peanut butter. Make peanut work FOR you.
Why?
Probably be better off being the spoon.
@@hariharang8872 I believe she's saying she wishes she were THAT peanut butter. Y'know, because Brad Pitt is licking it and whatnot.
I tried peanut butter on a spoon right after watching this movie, and I can tell you, I now have a new appreciation of peanut butter.
Proof that peanut butter kicks ass! If Death likes it, anyone can! :D
Unless you’re allergic to it
@@Human_of_the_World Well, can't help you there... :-/
I like this weird balance where Black is not very polite yet does not come off as rude either. It really puts forward the manners - or the lacking of it - of the people he interacts with.
no joke, I was 8 yrs old when this movie came out, it was what inspired me to try peanut butter and why to this very day I am a die hard peanut butter lover
Death was like, "Why my Master never told me this?!"
"Is this a trick question?"
His face at the last second, when he walks away and turns to left. Like the peanut butter really sticks to his palate and tongue... 😂😂😂
2:22-2:23 DID YOU NOTICE THAT FACE EXPRESSION HE MAKES UPON LEAVING lol
What is that?! Good catch!
He is doing a jim carrey expression lol
Death is a child. If death is how we depict we'd all run but a child, no.
The performance by the butler was great. Good acting.
The facial expression, with the lighting of the eyes; like a candle just lit, when he says "Yes." if he wants some.
This movie has a great score. I love the playful, mischievous, tone it takes here.
Composed by Thomas Newman. He has very distinctive style. Love his score from 'Shawshank Redemption" and "American Beauty".
Interesting... I thought his music was just a bit much at times in this film. In this scene I though it was a little bit leading, like it was pushing your emotions rather than letting the acting pull you along.
Meh, maybe I'm thinking too much. Glad you liked it though!
And also a confident amd class man doesnt downgrade other people even when they know they are not. They just show their face and meet in reality without playing games and without downgrading other people.
Real intellegence
He's soooo cute!
It’s like watching a child sneaking into the cabinet for peanut butter😂
When this fine gentleman's day comes they'll have a good laugh together over this.
I loved the way he almost grabbed the second spoon. Pitt's acting ability is off the chart.
My number one favorite scene in this movie. Before the era of RUclips, sometime I would just put the DVD, play it, and went straight to this scene.
HE'S SO BEAUTIFUL *_*
Why was that one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my life?!?😭😭😳😳😍😍
It makes me a little sad that some don't get this seen. Rent/download the movie homies. This is a lazy Sunday afternoon type of movie. See it and enjoy. Hint: Pitts character is DEATH on holiday.
Thanks bro just thought about watching it for the first time. Really appreciated your comment!
I saw this scene for the first time and I got the intimate feeling that Brad Pitt was there to kill him. X)
Should have put Peanut butter in that Big Kahuna burger
0:47 "It's right up there with Jiff and Skippy!!" Hehe!!
* JIF. One F.
@@seikibrian8641 One F*
@@jutau What the heck?!? The J and F keys aren't even close to each other. How'd that happen?
@@seikibrian8641 well technically there is also one J, so you were not wrong
I live in Italy we have only one peanut butter 😅
In the end of the movie, when he asks the waiter if he has any peanut butter, wanted just one last go of it lol. Priceless movie
Brad's so cute at this age and movie. Be still my ❤
Brad Pitt's acting is actually very good in this movie.
Why am I smiling from ear to ear. 😊
Check out Brad’s face at 2:23 when he turns left. What’s up with that? Lol
He's like an adult sized toddler. Anyone noticed that lady in the background never stops smiling at him?
Charm: How rarely seen in ‘popularist’ screen writing. Inspirational writing, treatmenting & acting: the little choke; the second, clean spoon - everybody seen was in on the act. I think Brecht would have enjoyed.
THIS IS THE CUTEST SCENE FOR ME! HE ACTS SO WELL!
Nigga wanted seconds when he didnt even finish the first xD
He is just too cute. :D
PEEAAAANUUUUUUUUUT BUTTEEEEEEEEEEEERRR!
He would have loved Honey Peanut Butter which is even better!
He’s such a child here the innocents in his face and voice
My favorite scene. I don't know why but I cry every time that I watch it. At first I smile and then cry. 😂😭😂😭
Well at least the butler gets to see more grandkids get older, thanks to peanut butter
LOL, the very last shot when he's turning to walk away he's got the biggest mouth open smile like a toddler who just discovered a sweet taste.
Peanut butter is goddamn amazing.
Please watch your mouth.
"Its right up there with jif and skippy"
British humor
i really loved this scene n brad expression are killer and how a movie about death could be so beautiful love u brad 👍👍👍👍😘😘😘
This is the cutest
Would be very comforting to know, when your time is up, that Brad Pitt would guide you thru it.
He should have showed him what peanut butter can do with jelly.
2:23
Look how happy the death is😂😂😂
Never ever thought I'd say ' death is really funny' 🤣
So he's as old as the universe and knows everything about everyone but doesn't know what peanut butter is?
My heart melting in this scene, Brilliant Joe Black so cute.
Ive been thinking about this movie a while and i think i know why brads such a heartthrob. Its his suit. If i had a good suit like that my luck might change
All through the rest of the movie he's eating pb. That would be funny if they made a clip where it showed all the parts he's eating peanut butter and the last scene where he asks for the whole container.
I think this is my favorite scene from that movie, along with the “death and taxes” scene with Drew. Death treats everyone equally.
"Peanut butter man now, eh sir?"
What an Underrated film! Brad Pitt's acting is Excellent!!👍
I started eating peanut butter because of this damn movie!! Now I have it on home made bread (toasted) with honey every morning!! Can't believe it's been 20 yrs!
What a beautiful memory.
Even after 20 years, I don't think I can get rid of this scene....F king cute! 😍
I love this film
Love this movie!!!!
Death being portrayed as a kid is awesome
Dude this was and is still my favourite part of the movie I do love peanut butter and love the looks on his face and you can see great acting
i love the way on how he always live in the present moment
this is exactly how i talk when i’m high
You're so gorgeous i love you piper Rose.....
Imagine having to wash a spoon that somebody used to have one scoop of peanut butter
What's funny is peanut butter from a spoon is the number one thing people choke and aspirate on.
2:22 the gag reflex of Mr. Pitt. Probably thought they'd cut it. 🤣 Whatta joker,..and always was.
I definitely had this exact conversation with my parents after coming home from my friend's house in high school
😅 best is the face he makes when he turns down the hall
The face he makes leaving is the penut butter on the bridge of his mouth
Indeed. Many people think he's smiling, but he isn't. It's this kinda overwhelming sensation, when you eat a lot of peanut butter. :-)
This is my favorite movie. Brad Pitt was so very handsome at that time. Playing Death ....trying peanut butter for the first time...classic.
He offered him more when the first spoon was still practically full of peanut butter.
2:21 did he break character here? LMAOO it looks like he started dying laughing
Putting a dirty spoon back into the jar should’ve been reason for Joe to end him.
How to escape death 😂
Looking at Death in the eye then offering some peanut butter.
1:52 I can feel how from now on these two men were at the very edge of just bursting out laughging. They must have tried filming this scene so many times :D
Love it!
