    Sheath retention problem of this knife can be easily fixed, there are two higher points inside the sheath, into which the tear drop shaped "holes" on the both sides of the handle lock, that locking tension can be made stronger by heating that point, preferably on the back side of the sheath carefully with a lighter and pushing it just slighty in and waiting for the plastic to harden again. Retention is excellent after this.

    First video of yours I have come across and have to say your honesty and practical mind set is refreshing on youtube. Just got done watching another video where it was quite clear the person didn't understand and know what they were doing but they were going to attempt to baton,featherstick,whatever with their knife because that's what "you're supposed to do" in a knife review. I myself grow tired of people who feel the need to baton their knives every chance they get, whether it be a fixed blade, a pocket knife, or a fillet knife. That is what axes/saws are for people. Thanks for the video, and your kydex and leather sheath for this knife has perked my ears.

    I too make leather sheaths but I love this new model Mora sheath. All it needs is to hit it for a few moments with a heat gun, press it tighter and cool it off. The retention becomes phenomenal.

    I am a huge Mora fan and love your videos! The new Robust is amazing. I know you don't like the plastic sheaths (probably because you make such beautiful replacements!) but I've never had a problem with them, but then I'm not often hung upside down and shaken when out in the woods... ;) But I did notice that the sheath on the Robust I just got fit a little looser than I care for, you're right about that. Generally have to give them a good yank to get them out of the sheath which is also not preferable...but what a great blade! Wish more companies would take notice of what Mora does for the price and follow suite. Thanks for the great vid and turning others on to a wonderful knife! I'll be looking into your sheath shortly...need it! :)

    I wear 2XL size gloves and this knife has my favorite handle of any knife I own, including 300 dollar knives. Excellent handle. Wish they had a model with a Mora Companion stainless blade in it but with the Pro S/Robust Pro handle.

  • @AlexA-vd7li
    @AlexA-vd7li 6 лет назад

    Stock sheath optimized for using it as a work knife (as it's a part of the utility working knife series), so you can easily draw it out without help of another hand. And this is why it has a mount to attach another knife, to have needed set of instruments with you.
    So the sheath isn't bad, it's very good but for the tasks it was designed for.

    Wow, those sheaths are a work of art man! I know the stock ones are inadequate but if you're on a budget a little remoulding with a heat gun will sort it out in no time. Still, no substitute for craftsmanship of this level. Well done!

    Im glad to see that Robusts handle could get some batonning. I did this to a Mora 511 that was stuck into an knotty beech and the rat tai tang broke after 1 hit in the handle. I know that was my fault, 511 isnt for handle batonning and hard knotty wood. Ill buy an Robust after what i saw here. Good job!!

I usually just exit a video when people are just talking about the knife (from inside their house at the kitchen table) watching a good field testing video like this is what we want to see. Thanks for doing this. And btw those sheaths are amazing, definitely a lot of pride in your work. I will definitely be looking into getting a sheath from you. Great Video, I just recieved the Mora Companion Heavy Duty in Military Green for 18 dollars. As for the sheath, its plastic of course and fit okay when I got it, but using a bit of heat and a spring clamp, I tightened up the sheath so the knife stays put. Leather sheaths are nice but spending 65 dollars for a 18 dollar knife, is a bit out of my price range. But your sheaths are nice.

    I agree that getting a brand new dull knife sucks and even worse on a custom knife. Mora knives are nice and sharp plus easy to sharpen though got so many not sure I could justify another. The handle does look easy to bend kydex for.

    The Mora robust like many Mora knifes are made for carpenters, so they shouldn't be too hard to get out of the sheath.

    The knife performed exactly as I expected it to. My biggest question for this knife was how is the handle? You sure answered that!
    How do you think it compares to the Black as far as the handle goes? The Black and the regular Companion are my hands down favorite knives for handle comfort. The old Robust wasn't bad but it wasn't my favorite.

    Very good review. Amazing how such an inexpensive knife has that much pride of ownership. I have a Mora Companion and love it. I am not a good knife sharpener but I can sharpen my Mora scary sharp with no problem on my Japanese wet stone. I have thought about upgrading to a Buscraft Black. Not so sure now after seeing the handle on this one. It may be a better handle than the Bushcraft Black. Any thoughts on how the two compare? I may just get both. Kind regards.

      ***** Just picked up a Mora Bushcraft knife at a local dealer called Omaha Knife. As expected from Mora is was incredibly sharp right out of the package. I did some processing on a fat wood stick and I was very impressed with the comfort and control. The sharp 90 spine made a prolific amount of fine shavings from the fatwood. The sheath is better than my Mora Companion. However a leather sheath may be in order when I can afford it. As soon as I grabbed the knife and did a curl on the fat wood I understood why so many like to use the Bushcraft Black.

    hey bud. usually i like long vids, but if u do a 25mins (!) vid, u should also find 15secs talking about the size. like at least handle length, blade length, blade thickness, weight. u might also wanna put the data in the description.

    Do you do axe sheaths? I have a wetterling and I want to invest in a more durable sheath.

    • @grierwolfe
      @grierwolfe  9 лет назад +1

      AZMudcats5 Yes sir I do. Problem is I would require the axe to insure proper fit.

    Your sheaths quality always make the knives look bad. Good on you. I want to thank you for subbing my channel some time ago. Really nice gesture. Cleo and I are going to make a carbon steel folding knife vid this weekend. I encourage you to check it out.
