Yep! Happened to me randomly as well. Did nothing different and was really worried my charger or battery was dead, which is at minimum, $40 for a charger from RadCity. Glad it was a super cheap fix like the fuse!
@rafaelbenjumea5463 100% agree. I just got a new ebike, and this one will never be washed, just wiped. I see people leaving their ebikes in the rain uncovered and covered with snow. My bike lives inside with me, planning on at 5 years out of this one.
After toiling over the idea of a $600 replacement battery I Ferndale checked RUclips... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO AND SAVING ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!!!
Omg! I bought fuse for $5 and took me half hour to fix it. The difficult part was pulling the fuse out. I used tweezer to pull out the fuse. Thank you so much for this video.
You can check continuity while the fuse is in. There are two open spots on top to place tour probes. Same thing on cars. You don't have to pull twenty fuses to check them all.
Hi great video! I have a 2016 Radcity and the battery stopped charging similar to this video. I took off the cover of my battery- and lo and behold the 5amp circuit is inside the plastic case. To get into the cover remove the 6 small philips head screws in the case, cut or remove the clear tape on the seam at each end (if applicable- mine was factory sealed), and cut the barcode along the seam (barcode is a sticker from the manufacturer in my case)- the thing pops right open. The 5 amp circuit was blown. Replace. It was that easy. Rad power bikes has been out of replacements for this battery for some time- just fix it yourself! Just saved hundreds...
Beautiful. I have a 2017 RadCity and trying to trouble shoot the same thing. Thanks for the tip. I just replaced the 30a fuse and didn't change the problem. I'll try your technique.
Great video! I was really bummed I couldn't get my battery to charge. Found your video and followed your instructions! Worked perfectly! Charging my battery now!
I have a 2018 RadCity. FWIW, the owner's manual says to use exactly that connecting sequence when charging the battery. Really good to know about the fuses, too. I had no idea the fuses existed, and have yet to find any mention of them in the manual - even in the trouble shooting section, but will still keep an eye out. Might be time to check out the Rad community. Thanks!
Thank you for this. Worked like a charm. Use the tiniest flathead you have to get the fuse cover off. Anything too big chews it up. I used one from a phone repair kit.
Knowledge is expensive. Just got done destroying a perfectly good power controller looking for some kind of fuse. Bought a new one for $129, installed it, no joy. Finally I pressed the test button on the battery, saw the red fault light. Looked on the back, I see "Fuse" twice, but I didn't realize they were rubber plugs, so I started disassembling the battery. Finally looked up this RUclips vid. Ghaaaaaaaa! After all that wasted time and money, all I needed was to pry out a couple plugs, then replace a blown 40 amp fuse, for about a dollar. Ghaaaaaaa! Great video. Wish I'd seen it a couple months ago. BTW, you can pry the plugs out with a mini Swedish Army blade.
When I went to start it the today it was dark back in my garage and I accidently stuck my key into the charging port and got a big spark, thank you for this video because all it did was fry the 5A fuse and I was able to replace it and it is now charging again. Saved me from having to buy a new battery as well.
Great to know. I checked, but both fuses are fine. That would have been an easy fix. Mine still won't take a charge. I found the problem. A cable in front of the handlebars that goes to the display came unplugged. Now all is well.
*Love the **Latest.Bike** it's getting warmer here in Minnesota. So I can't go to fast with it yet but once it does I will use it more often and save on gas to work.*
I just had to reply. This is gold! Just had the same problem. Pulled the 5 amp fuse out and it was finished. Will definitely buy some fuses. Thanks so much for this video!
Take your fuse out and re-insert it if you have been over some rough terrain it is possible that it loosened up a little bit worked for me. Definitely replace if it looks like it has blown mine looked fine.
Thank you. I was looking for an explanation of what the symbols on the battery key hole ment when I found your video. This looks like something that could save me some frustration in the future. I think I should carry extra fuses in my tool kit.
Thanks for this. I stupidly put the key against the open battery charger port (got mixed up on which side it was on) and saw a spark. After that it wouldn't charge, so after watching your video I'm going to check this!
Anyone having trouble getting fuse rubber plugs out just take a pin make a small hole and use a very small screw to tap the plug - pulls out easy. The plugs fit tight to keep moisture out. The method I used keeps the plugs intact and fitting tight.
Thanks for this, albeit we have the 2022 RAD City 5 plus e-bike, which is a part integrated battery, and by looking at it, it doesn't have the same placement for it's fuses. Our issue is RAD sent us a brand new battery, and it shows ZERO volts, and will not charge, so I thought perhaps it might be a fuse issue? Not sure if it will charge from zero volts, but being new I'm hoping it can be revived!
My neighbors 2016 Rad Mini, is still using the original battery. It still charges up to 80%. He got 1900 miles out of the original tires. Im not sure why the fat tire folders didnt have any problems. Great bikes.
Hi there! Thanks for this video. I wonder if you have any advice for me to get a complete charge on my 2018 Rad City Power Bike. The battery had very little charge though it was plugged in overnight. When I rode the bike, it only showed one dot on the battery continuum scale. I charged it overnight again and now it shows 2 dots. Today, I plugged it in again and the charger shows a green light and the red light at once. I would appreciate any trouble shooting advice you have.

Well I just had an issue with my 2018 radcity ST. It just does not seem to want to power on. I did find those fuses on my own and checked them. Both fine. I've charged the battery on the bike no problem, but I wouldn't charge it with it in the "on" position. I turn the battery off with the key first, then charge.
I would suggest NOT doing that if you can avoid it. The fuse is there to prevent power surges that could damage your battery or even start fires when charging. If you are in a situation where you NEED to charge your battery to get home and all you have is a 10 amp fuse, then you might be ok temporarily, but you run the risk of ruining your battery and/or at worst case scenario, starting an electrical fire. Personally, I wouldn't risk it and just wait to find a proper 5amp fuse. Using a 10amp fuse, and a power surge happens, you are allowing double the power that the 5amp fuse is trying to prevent, into the battery.

This has just happened to my husband currently trying to wrestle the fuse cover off, jammed in there no space for anything to get down the side! What did you use?
You can visually see a break in the fuse if you pull it out and look on the side as well. The multimeter is there to make sure it's real as sometimes the break in the fuse is really hard to see.
@@MichioMakes Yeah.. Thanks for the reply. Upon further inspection I noticed 2 spots that were strangely smooth on the bottom and side of the charger. It looks like a capacitor inside heated up and exploded, melting the plastic. Of course this happens 13 months later, and the warranty is only for 12 months, so I'll have to buy a new one. Unfortunately that won't happen until 7 days from now, where I'll be stuck biking up hills to and from work every day on a 75 lb. bike. 😓 I'm pretty sure this is because I always leave the charger plugged in, and the capacitor is not designed to hold that kind of charge for extended periods of time. Also apparently it's less stressful to the charger/battery if you plug in the charger first to the battery, and then plug it into the wall.

Plug it into the bike first, then the wall.
When disconnecting, unplug it from the wall first, then the bike.
If I order a rad runner plus battery will it come with a key and charger??
I'd contact Rad Power Bikes directly.
Thanks for the video saved me a lot of time fooling around I’m sure...
You're welcome!
Nailed it! Thanks so much for posting this!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for posting!
Thank you for posting this video.
thanks so much man, i thought that was gonna cost me!
That turned out to be my problem, thank you so much!
This has just happened to my husband currently trying to wrestle the fuse cover off, jammed in there no space for anything to get down the side! What did you use?
Use a very small flat head screwdriver. Be very careful not to damage the cover or you will compromise the water resistant of your battery.
how can you tell which fuse is the problem without a special probe tool?
You can visually see a break in the fuse if you pull it out and look on the side as well. The multimeter is there to make sure it's real as sometimes the break in the fuse is really hard to see.
@@MichioMakes Thank you!
Extremely helpful!
this is just the video I needed! you're really a lifer saver, thanks!
I'm so glad!
Thanks! This solved our issue!
I can't get them covers off, they are set really deep on the battery, I have only charged it once, trust me that I am very pissed
Thanks Man - thats what I was looking for - I had the same problem - very helpful
Did you get a surge in power to blow the fuse?
Nope! Just plugged it like I usually do. Nothing different than what I've done for weeks.
@@MichioMakes thanks for the video. Will keep some fuses on hand now.
What happens when the bike charger lights go out? I just got home and plugged in my battery and noticed the charger lights were off...
You sure the plug is in on both sides of the power brick? If the lights are off on the charger, your charger might be broken. Sorry man.
Unfortunately that won't happen until 7 days from now, where I'll be stuck biking up hills to and from work every day on a 75 lb. bike. 😓
I'm pretty sure this is because I always leave the charger plugged in, and the capacitor is not designed to hold that kind of charge for extended periods of time. Also apparently it's less stressful to the charger/battery if you plug in the charger first to the battery, and then plug it into the wall.
thanks you help me out in a big way thanks man👍
Absolutely amazingly helpful video...
