      Fuck the Ballon D'or, its a marketing stunt and a shitshow anyway.
      Modric wins it and people lose their minds, and the hate they give him is "Papa Perez bought the award" even after his unparalleled contributions in the world cup as well as RM winning the champions league.
      The bastard panel counts the goals a striker scored and that's a good enough stat for them to dish that award.(the only stat it seems they look at tbh)
      But a defender that hasnt been dribbled past for an entire season, and has won the champions league, and scored a handful of goals too, and still thats not good enough to get him the award. Its nothing short of a marketing stunt and a crowd pleasing stunt!
      There's a myriad of players, amazing amazing players with a stellar year/s who didn't get that award. But the world goes on, the fun of the game ultimately lies in watching these other amazing and deserving guys play, not in that award necessarily

One of the most underrated players of his era and his generation. Selected as the best foreign player in La Liga 1974-1999 (Before Messi/Ronaldo era), Michael Laudrup was a maestro in the midfield. I knew who Laudrup was but never got a chance to see him play on TV as I live in the UK. Football365 did an article on him recently and having watched a 1:h 20min video on RUclips I think fuck Maradona, fuck whoever else in the late 80's - 90's. Laudrup was an absolute fucking genius. Some of his through balls I've watched I couldn't even see coming having re-watched the video four or five times and don't even start me on his no look passes which were sublime. And I've not even mentioned his dribbling skills or goals. All I can say is the Spanish football watching public were truely lucky to have been able to watch his magic and genius. How he never won the European or World footballer of the year is a travesty and as Guardiola said, "It proves they [those award] aren't worth very much". High praise indeed. Laurdup.....we salute you, Sir!

    • @carlossimancas9867
      @carlossimancas9867 7 лет назад

      Indeed, we were very lucky in Spain to watch the wonderful Laudrup for seven years, five in Barcelona and two for Real Madrid. He is one of the 25 best players in the history of the Liga, that´s a fact.
      But, please, don`t exagerate comparing him with Maradona. Diego was able to do the same things than Michael and, besides, Diego was the brain of the teams in which he played. Maradona was an agressor (dribbling & passing), like Laudrup, and a general too. And Diego was able to score more goals every season than Laudrup. This was the weak point of the danish, who scored few goals every season, and this was severely criticized by his coach Johan Cruyff in more than one ocassion.
      If you want to compare Laudrup with some players, do it with those who did similar things than the danish: agression, dribbling and passing: Luis Figo, Ryan Giggs and Ronaldinho, for instance, who were superb as well in that area.
      The Word Footballer Award didn´t exist when Michael was at his best. And he did not win the Ballon d'Or in 1992, (Laudrup and Van Basten were the best players at the time) because in those years all the awards were given to Calcio players, as if the other leagues didn´t exist. That´s why he was voted 8th that year (!!!)....and Guardiola said than awards like that prove nothing

      @@FOA100X Well, I am very strict in rating players in football in general. Although I know that it's an unfair comparison between midfielders because even between them you have different types of players. A regista, a trequarista, box to box midfielder, an anchor etc.
      So I have prepared my rankings based on the following points:
      1) Their prime
      2) Their overall contribution to the team and to the game in general.
      3) Their versatility and the level of their team vs their opponents
      4) Their achievements
      So they are as follows:
      1) Diego Maradona
      2)Zico
      3) Michael Laudrup
      4) Michel Platini and Gunter Netzer
      5)Lothar Matthaus
      6) Alfredo De Stefano
      7) Neils Liedholm and Rivelino (tie)
      8) Paolo Falcao and gerson(tie)
      9)Luis Suarez Miramontes and Sir Bobby Charlton
      10)Zinedine Zidane and Giovanni Rivera
      11)Xavi Hernandez
      12) Ronaldinho Gaucho and Stanley Matthews
      13) Roberto Baggio and Raymond Kopa
      14) Andres Iniesta and John Neeskens
      15) Rivaldo( He's not exactly your regular midfielder but he also played as an attacking midfielder). You can put him below though.
      16) Ruud Gullit
      17) Frank Rijkaard
      18) Clarence Seedorf
      19) Claude Makelele
      20) Luka Modric

    If there was another phrase for "the beautiful game" it would be *"Laudrup."* Maybe the only player who wanted to turn football into art and why both Platini and Cruyff said his only flaw was that he was not selfish enough. But he made that up in spades by giving us some of the most magical moments that football has ever.
    BTW, I was born in the same Hospital that he was. Small world.

    Laudrup is an underrated player because he never got the popularity in media. But his teammates contemporaries and even many of the mordern players consider him one of the greatest of all time. It's a shame that most of our generation don't even know his name because he was a Danish, a small country. Think, if Maradona or Messi would have born in Denmark then what???

    • @carlossimancas9867
      @carlossimancas9867 7 лет назад +2

      Underrated for who??????? For british media? For british fans? In Spain all the fans remember him perfectly, and we all know what a wonderful player he was, no matter if he was danish, polish or brazilian. One of the good things of internet, youtube and this global world is that some football fans are begining to discover that the Premiership is not the centre of the Universe.
      Laudrup has been one of the 25 best players in the history of spanish liga. No question about that

    • @anshk7399
      @anshk7399 5 лет назад

      Carlos Simancas those were the days when footballers who were star players just for big clubs never really got that much popular. As, compared to today, there was pretty much no viewership of league football in foreign countries for the most part and the only competition whole world actually watched was World Cup. So, players who didnt play for big nations rarely ever got more than little famous and that too only in the countries they played in. And it is quite evident also. No one remembers Maradona or Pele for their club football careers but their careers with their national team. Even, Cruyff is remembered more for his national career(being from a great football playing nation) . And only few players from small nations got some limelight because of their leading qualities where Laudrup clearly lacked. As great as player as he was, he had no presence on field or in general, just a simple general guy. And only guys I remember from small and not so competitive country who got extreme popularity was Gearge Best, who arguably was one of the best talents ever, perhaps wasted anyway.

    @und34dcow: WOW! I had no idea! Especially the first kit he ever bought!?...Thank you for the info! I had my suspisions seeing Iniesta's ''La Croqueta'' footballing move being very similar to Laudrups back in the day. That is so cool that he idolozed Laudrup.....and what a player Iniesta has become. Awesome.
    Iniesta achieved a World Cup, though you are right - Laudrup's poetry on the pitch and vision is still a marvel to see.

    Looking at the comments. Finally, Michael is getting the accolade's from the general global football audiences, thanks to brilliant youtube content creators like llaauuddrruupp, he should have gotten during the 1990s. The mass football media hyped Romario, Baggio, Ronaldo, Zidane, back then because, they played for big football nations that made dents in FIFA's world cup's money machine, which Laudrup couldn't do, coming from a small nation like Denmark.
    But he was a technically, more all round complete player than those players & in the word's of his manager at Barcelona & a great skilled, all time great player himself, Johan Cruyff. He said. " Michael plays like a dream". Couldn't say it better myself.

      Yes you're right but he played some fantastic football at the world cup in mexico in 1986 when denmark met Uruguay and beat them 6-1 you'll never forget moments like that. look at his goal to 3-1 pure genius and the world cup in 1998 in france when denmark met nigeria beating them 4-1 michaels pass to ebbe sand when he scored unforgettable

    • @ToTheNines87368
      @ToTheNines87368 Год назад

      I hate to disagree, but I have to. They both have beyond great passing and vision range. De Bruyne is a better athlete, most modern footballers are, but Michael was a magician with graceful through balls and elegant lob passes. If you watch the crossing they are looping as was the style back then. De Bruyne is more of a surgeon, all his passes are hit with speed and precision, pin point and laser focused. His crosses are swerving and fast and when he runs with the ball it’s fast and determined, not that fancy elegance and trickery of Michael Laudrup.
      Laudrup is more Iniesta, or you could say he’s very influenced by Laudrup. I also think there are a few parallels with Zinedine Zidane. All though was more aggressive and physical.

    @alexhansen1 Totti is the only passer I would put anywhere near Laudrup. People talk of Zidane yet in his entire international career he only created one assist for their all time highest goal scorer despite playing almost all his career with him and that was from a set piece!! If Laudrup played today he would be very famous. He is unlucky that like Romário, Savicevic, Bebeto, Matthaus and Preud'homme, he played his best years before it was easy to watch foreign leagues.
