Probably I watched this maybe more than 10 times. Still priceless, timeless, and splendid. He is indisputably a great master of the killer pass and visionary architect of deep, long passes. A playmaker whose style became a role model and source of inspiration for the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. They concede this in their auto-biographical tales. Love and respect from New York for one of the best playmakers in soccer history: MICHAEL LAUDRUP.

It would be hard choice between Xavi, Pirlo and Laudrup considering playmakers, all have high IQ, but I give advantage to Laudrup, because not only that he had high IQ on field, but his technical skills were almost like Maradona's skills and I don't care who will laugh now on this.

Michael Laudrup is one of the best players I ever have seen. My favourite, there is no doubt about this. In 2014 I stood with him in the Champions Final, in Lisbon, and I have the privilege to talk 2 minutes with him. I told him that he was more than a football player. He was an artist. He was the Mozart of football. He smiles at me a thank me for my words. I´ll never forget this moment. For me, after Messi and Zidane, Laudrup is the best player ever.

Heintze and Helveg as left and right back, Gravesen as defensive midfielder cleaning up.

Zidane was a bit more technical and all-rounded than Laudrup, and had his best performances on the biggest stages, so he definitely got a lot more attention than Laudrup. Especially in the 2000s when more widespread television broadcasting meant more people could watch the World Cup, Zidane put in absolutely incredible performances for France and his story of coming out of retirement to save France was newspaper bait. Laudrup on the other hand would never get that sort of opportunity with Denmark and actually chose not to join the Danish team when they won the Euros, which would’ve given his name much more legendary status.

One of the best testimony of how good and important Laudrup was to football, is to know that nearly all Spanish midfielders who were born between 1980 and 1990, and who later dominated world football 20-30 years later, cite Laudrup as being their role model.

    • @chinmaypednekar501
      @chinmaypednekar501 2 года назад +2

This! David Silva and Iniesta are the ones who are totally vocal about him being their idol. But even otherwise, the fact that that WC winning Spanish side under Del Bosque had an absolutely stacked midfield, right from attacking mids to defensive mids with playmaking as a crucial aspect of all of these players' skillset can be attributed to the massive influence the Barca Dream Team probably had on that entire generation, and this man Laudrup was the "brain" of that team. And just thinking about how his style of play was visually appealing while extremely effective at the same time, there's no question he was a massive influence on that generation you mentioned.
And just to cement this further, he was honoured as the "Best player in Spain in the last 25 years". You don't get that sort of an accolade especially if you are a foreigner if you've not actually left behind an impact of that sort.

I see that many are saying he was better than Zidane or "Zidane was overrated". In some ways I agree he was better than Zidane. Like his vision was absolutely outstanding. You notice that the best midfielders from these past years have a very similar style to him. Iniesta, Xavi, Modric, etc.. What made Zidane so special though was that not only did he have many of the footballing qualities Laudrup had but he in some was ways he was more of a complete footballer. For instance, Laudrup wasn't known for his heading yet Zidane was amazing at scoring with his head. Does that automatically mean Zidane was better than Laudrup? No. Basically I think we shouldn't say Laudrup was better than Zizou & vice versa. They both had UNIQUE qualities that made them so special for football.

Zidane is a dog, Laudrup is a cat. Who actually doesnt really like the pro enviroment since it is a dog world.
But the Cat is by far the most inventive ,intuitive, creative archetype.
Zidane come from France and Laudrup from Denmark, Yet Laudrup achieved way more than Zidane.
More goals and more passes that lead to goal. Laudrup was the creature so that is the reason he did not made many goals with his head. He was actually quite good at it.
Yeah Zidane achieved some success at world cup, in winning them. Yet Laudrup also got to 3 world cups and did also played remarkably well. The Second World cup he got to did not went well. That team got to old and payed that prize. Not Laudrup faults
Laudrup won the federation cup though. Every club he played on became Champions.
Laudrup did not need to be a Zidane, it was Zidane that copied Laudrup.
His skills was so good he did not need to fight on man to man, he played effectively around them.

A player like this on your team, makes you understand runs you never saw before. You become the third man run even without another player involved, because he plays you into an alternative space no one on the field thought of. In other words, he sees you on a diagonal run not only before you make it, but before its there.

Because of this legend here, I ended up checking players from the past, as well as the current players to see if any other player could completely wreck two, or maybe even three lines of defense in one pass as frequently as Michael did. And I genuinely didn't find a single player with a career full of montage(not even xavi, not even iniesta, not even zidane, none) who had done it. Destroying and nullifying 2 or 3 lines of defense in one through ball (as you mentioned finding that alternative space before a player even makes the run) time and again, only this man had the technique and the unparalleled vision to do it.

One of the scariest aspects of watching all the Laudrup clips is not only the goals he created, but the vast quantity of clear cut chances he made which the striker then fluffed. Not only did his teams win the league every season and have the league top scorer, it was done on just a fraction of what he actually created for the team/striker.

In case you want a proper detailed elaboration of what he exactly means, read about or watch some videos about what johan cruyff and also Michel platini have meant when they said it, that "Laudrup didn't give his best". Of course Laudrup got the job done with whatever he gave on the field and i myself rate Laudrup in high regards from all that ive seen of him. But if players like cruyff and platini say the same exact thing about michael, there has to be something they saw him do in the training grounds where they were alongside him, which he refrained from doing in actual matches. Laudrup has also been called a bit too "unselfish" for his and his team's own good, especially in front of goal, which probably if he would have been selfish enough, would have won them more games if he himself had finished a chance instead of making a pass, or maybe he would have the personal accolades he deserved and hence put him in a place among the greats whose names arent forgotten. One thing in this video that really says alot about Laudup's playing style and reputation at the time, is at
ruclips.net/video/LUMFlhLWzZ0/видео.html There are 3 defender with in 4-10 meters of Laudrup. The cleary try to close down the space
so he can't make his famous in depth passes. So they hesitate in the pressing and Mister keeps his calm. Executeing a fine fine pass to the back space.
A pure example of what kind of a player he was. He was the Majestro of the Ochestra named Barcelona. A playmaker so fluent in hes handleing off the ball for that time.
I would love to see him playing in in football today. He is my childhood hero and he has giving me and so many other danish people so much.

He was focusing on Barcelona, which was also why he was so good at Barcelona. It was total commitment. And when you watched those Barcelona games, you felt a tangible sense of greatness. It was something bigger than football. It was about more than just winning games. They were striving for something beyond football.

Michael Laudrup will always be my favorit player - today only Messi come close to his greatnes. Both are humble and don't need to flash them self - see my new car...see my new dog...see my new hair etc. - and the dump press and the dump people just buy it and forget all about what is important - maybe because they don't recogniced the true beauty of football - it takes one to know one.

To me, he is THE BEST MIDFIELDER EVER BORN!
I don't care about "big names", PR-players, "primadonnas"...
HE HAD EVERYTHING the one who is THE BEST must have; dribblings of all sorts_ in place, running with the ball at any speed, fantastic passing, shots on goal as well, fantastic free kicks, dictating the course and tempo of the game, imagination and reading of the game, ... he was underrated, but not true football lovers take it into account, BECAUSE WE RECOGNIZE THE TRUE VALUE, THE BIGGEST CLASS OF THE PLAYER and his name is Michael Laudrup - THE GREATEST!!!
