I was listening to my local radio station in Valdese, NC this morning 1/6/23 and the hosts Apollo and Liberty were talking and Apollo was telling a story about going to pick his mom up in South Carolina to bring her to his house and she was telling him she wanted to go to the Goodwill stores that they come upon heading back to North Carolina because she has been obsessed with watching The Crazy Lamp Lady and she just knows she is going to find a rare treasure! That made me smile because I love to watch you as well. I thought you would love to hear that you are reaching us here in North and South Carolina! You are really fun to watch! The green candled that was lit you can just cut the wick down and put a tea light in it, so it only burns to the tin holder. I f found one I liked years ago at a thrift store and tried that, and it worked. Candle remained pretty and didn't burn down. Will be pretty w/your beautiful new cupboards. i have learned alot about what could be of value from you. I learned that if they are restocking to stick around because you might find someting. just last week . I was waiting for them to restock and saw a blue star bowl that caught my eye as soon as they put it out. It was going for 6.99 I looked it up and found a signature on it. It is a faberage blue star bowl,signed which goes for 200.00-375.00. I was so excited!!!!

Crazy story: I went to the Goodwill bins this afternoon and spotted a nice quality basket and asked the woman that was sitting beside it if it was hers. She stated that it was, but that she was still deciding on it and that if she changed her mind on it, she'd come and find me. About 30 minutes later, she came up to me and said that she was going to buy it for a friend, but that friend never got back with them to confirm whether they wanted it or not and she had to go. She said, "It's the Longaberger picnic basket and it's worth about $100." And it had the plastic lining! And then I get on here to relax after an exhausting and exciting bins trip to see you finding the same basket and saying the same thing. Talk about serendipity! 🥰

Nice score on the baskets! If you haven’t thrown the liners out yet, a clear or colored duct tape around the rim would work. I like the liners in the larger baskets to keep some of the dirt out.

That gorgeous green candle, you can lightly scrape inside the crater evenly, cut away the wick. Place one of those mini votives or electric ones inside the crater.
I recently had the same experience where I was looking something up & another shopper was making a bee line to the item. I quickly put it in my cart & then continued to look it up. It ended up being $200-$300 comforter for $13.
I believe the basket you missed out on was actually an umbrella basket. I have several Longaberger baskets and pottery pieces. I have visited the Longaberger Homestead several years ago before everything was bought out. Good old days.
I've been collecting Longaberger baskets since the late '80's & find them to be wonderfully useful even after 30 years. Probably don't have much resale value but for your own use you can't go wrong. Easy to clean too as you can just spray them down & let them air dry. Have fun finding uses for them.
Picnic baskets are great for storing toys and all kinds of things. I used to keep all my aquarium supplies in one and displayed it under a table next to the fish. Everything at hand and out of sight.
Hi Jocelyn! I still can't get over the fact that you can find some remarkable finds at Goodwill! Your Goodwills are so much better than the ones here in Northern Indiana! The ones I have went to here are like going to a dirty garage sale your afraid to get out of your car. I have never seen any good glass here EVER! I love the color green also. But I also like brown dishes. They seem cozy and comforting to me and brown matches colors from each season so I can still mix & match. Love those candles. Neat story about the initials on the baskets.

Jealous you saw the plastic grass drying thingie. I know it’s meant for baby bottle things, but I thought 2 would be great for drying out my art pottery mugs and bowls pieces after washing.
You can always have a CHRISTMAS IN JULY sale. A lot of people like to switch up their decorations early on. And I love those baskets. Very kitchy, lol love ya girl!!
I have 3 Longaberger market baskets that I use at estate sales to carry my finds. They are super strong and no matter how heavy I stuff them, they don’t crack and the handle doesn’t bow. You got 2 excellent finds for the baby toys!

You can add a small votive in that candle to still have a flame but not miss shape the decorative candle itself.
Those candles are great. I would call the one candle burnt orange-- at least that is how it comes thru in the camera to me. Look great together. Summer flowers

My mom worked for Longaberger too! I used to go with her to the basket bee every year in ohio. She didn’t weave them but was a branch advisor for years.

I held my breath when you looked at the plates with the floral roses. It is Scio Pottery Company from Scio, Ohio. It is the Hazel pattern made from the 30's to early 50's. Vintage, and not worth much, but this is the dinnerware my Mother started housekeeping with. I have started collecting it as I find it. I was hoping you would buy it and I could add it to my collection. I have been searching for those salad plates, teacups and saucers, the berry and oatmeal bowls. Collecting for my memories as I always loved their design.

Jocelyn, I was always taught that even if only using candles for display, you must light the wick briefly and then blow it out. Raw wick display is bad luck. I don't know why. Just something else for me to research. 🤔

Beware y’all, twice at GW I had people try to take from the items that I had purchased as I was being rung up for other items. The second time, the nice sales lady, spotted that the item was missing-the lady who was being checked out next to me put it in her bag.
The second time, a lady commented on the nice music box that I had in my basket. She followed me and talked to me and was very nice. But then when I checked out and had my items waiting to be wrapped, she took it. I asked for it back and she gave it back.
Mostly, this is not a problem, but I am more watchful over my items now.

I do the same thing, if there is something I want to look up or I may want but not sure yet I always put the items in my cart until I can either look them up(I don’t resell just curious) or make a decision to keep them or not.

Good choices on the LB baskets! The plastic pieces are protectors. Cloth are liners. I started out as a customer and then went into selling. It breaks my hear to see them sell so low now. I have them all over my home and many in storage because I have no place to display them since I downsized.
The factory and town were so fun to visit. I went twice a year at least as did many others. I made my own basket with the help of a weaver . Seeing the process from start to finish was an experience.
If you want a toy that Hank can't tear apart, get him one of those knotted ropes. My dog loved playing with hers and it was the only toy she had that she couldn't destroy.

Jocelyn, beautiful baskets!! Longaberger baskets were each made for a very specific purpose - fascinating to research. I have a tall square from the 70’s that was made to hold foil, Saran Wrap, waxed paper and parchment paper. As beautiful as new kitchens are there is still something lovely about stepping into my pantry to retrieve my extra roll of foil, etc. I also gave a party large enough that I received the bushel basket as a hostess gift which is now on it’s second generation of toys and is in pristine condition and worth several hundred dollars. Appreciate the Longaberger!😊

My mom had some very large carved candles like that from Germany in the 1970's. You got some great baskets. Always check the labels. I've been fooled before. Our IL Goodwill has Christmas items year round, I paid big bucks for a large basket like that about 30 years ago. I keep my family room blankets in it.
For our dog 🐶 we found a really nice metal low box for his toys so he could pick them out easily with his mouth BUT then we did not have to worry about him chewing on it as it was metal and it still went with the house decor

Those red and green embossed candles look like ones I had in the 1970s. Avocado green was the popular color so I had lots of things that color.
I remember my mother having those candles in the 1970s, too!! I think hers were a bit smaller & she had a 3rd candle in the ever popular harvest gold color!! Those colors bring back some strong childhood memories!
