I use the same towel hooks I have in my kitchen as a fabulous zipper jig.
The adhesive on the back of the hooks is quite strong so can be put on the wall or edge of a table without moving.

If you don’t have a zipper jig or want something a little nicer than a fork permanently in your sewing room, try using this little treasure!
It’s a self adhesive towel hook. You can mount it on your wall or onto a table. The adhesive is quite strong so does not move when installing your zip slider.
Made of stainless steel, it looks much nicer than using a fork!
Insert the bridge of the zipper slider into the slot with the back facing you.
With wrong side of tape facing you, insert by threading the zipper tapes on an angle into the slider openings and pull through.
    It’s that easy!
This will be extremely helpful if you make a lot of bags, pouches or cushion covers that require use of zipper tape.

Thanks for sharing Linda!! 🙏 I have used these hooks for years as towel holders and when I finally got tired of using pliers for my zippers and found there was actually a proper tool for the installation, as usual I tried to figure out a cheaper easier way for everyone to get their hands on one.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I really appreciate it.

I always knew you could use a fork instead of proper jig but I didn't like the thought of a fork in my sewing space. (it's just me) I just knew I could find something more attractive!

A very nice video, thank you! I have ordered up a fourpack of them wee clippy doodles.
And now for some constructive criticism, coming from a fellow RUclipsr (sounds like a potato pronoun...)
Your videos can be far less distracting and far more engaging (up to 27% better than real life) if you would simply turn the phone SIDEWAYS! Human eyes don't work right for videos from vertical phones and the mushy images that get put to the sides of the vertical video as filler are very distracting.
Thanks again for a great tip, it's better than the fork!

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  3 года назад +2

Thanks Souperdoo for ordering and the constructive criticism. I totally agree about the vertical video. I did it on purpose because it was made as a RUclips “short” and it has to be made vertically to be seen on mobile “shorts” shelf otherwise the top and bottom is lost. Not sure if RUclips is actually showcasing on the shelf....
Thanks for watching though. I appreciate it. I had a quick look at your website. I know nothing about motorcycles but I liked your “crankiness” that I picked up😊.
      Here’s a channel you might enjoy? ruclips.net/user/HYDRAULICONLINEGOLDCOAST
ps- really push in the zip slider to hold in place when inserted the tape sides.

@@NotchesSewing Oy, I can understand the 'optimize for mobile' thing! Another RUclips innovation...
Thanks for the link; it's just the sort of site I love to look at! I can spend hours doing that.
I'm still into motorcycles, but I think that I may begin to do more videos and articles related to sewing and my Juki 1541.
Take care, be well and be happy.

@@NotchesSewing Not sure when I might do some more videos; I got really pissed off at YT when they got rid of annotations in favor of "cards". Annotations were useful, cards are useless to me. I'm still protesting, though I took the signs off of my lawn...
I sew motorcycle gear and camping gear. I do it only for myself and my friends, not as a business. I have two motorcycles, so I plenty of opportunities for making luggage, internal bags, repair equipment, yadda yadda. I have three sets of riding gear that need maintenance, too. I also bicycle and make some stuff for cycling.
Practically everything I do has at least one zipper and most things are piped. Generally, I use Cordura, 500D to 1000D and some ballistic stuff. I have some vintage PFAFF domestic machines for doing really light stuff like ripstop.
I recently got an old Juki overlock (MO-816) and am learning to use that thing. My first project was a set of covers for the overlock and for the 1541, made out of ripstop. Second project was a set of luggage bags made almost entirely on the overlock, using 500D cordura.
