I really enjoyed your ride. I've been out in the North Milwaukee area riding but today we got a snow dump. So you're right you have to ride on beautiful days like that. And I also really enjoy your urban photography and stories of once thriving areas. Happy relaxing Holidays from WI.
Hey Tim! I really enjoyed the tour of your locale in this video. I think it’s a sign of us getting older when we come to a location and say “I remember when this was a…”. You have also inspired me to give the Festive 500 a try this year. Thank you for being you!
We become our parents - what can we do?! Its even worse when I call stuff by a name it hasn't used in years. (arenas and stadiums being prime examples). Good luck with the Festive 500! Cheers!
Loved the video, watched it twice. Once before I fell asleep last night and again this morning while I pedal the indoor trainer. Feeling nostalgic of things past. Time doesn’t stand still except in photos. Edmond looks a little disgruntled, still a keeper!
Merry Christmas Tim....thoughts, comments, and stuff after watching the ride through Cuyahoga Falls/Akron....yes, i remember both Children's Palace/Toys R Us so i'm showing my 66 years on the good ole' Mother Earth. Rode 31.23 miles yesterday on the towpath. I love the graffiti paint work that is done by the Mustill Store and the Boston store-it adds some pizazz to the trail. Pretty ambitious for the Holiday 500; need help from Mother Nature. i haven't rode thru Kenmore-you've given me an idea for spring/summer. I like the facelift on Lock 3-can't wait for the Pizza Festival and other concerts. Saw Lady Lyre twice down there. Fond memories of Akron in the 80's was an iconic old bank on Main st. that was converted into a small concert venue. Saw the Action, Hammer Damage, and others there. Great times/great memories. Can't wait to see the Edmund designs-hopefully a T-shirt? My bike shop is Blimp City down in the valley. And i still remember having Easter dinner with my mom at the Cathedral of Tomorrow. I did research the Sealskin Lobster gloves and i am leaning towards grabbing a pair. And i will be hiking and biking much over the Holidays....the weather looks dry, cold but doable. So i will be out there....Have a great Holiday Season with Edmund
You get to see a lot more things on rides this time of year with all the leaves off the trees. Bike trails are mostly empty. Sunny days in winter can be great!
Tim good luck on completing the Festive 500. I hope that the weather holds up for you. I wanted to try to see if I could do the same challenge. Did a 60 miler on Saturday and struggled last ten miles, and have decided to hang up riding for the rest of the year. Super depressing we have had super warm weather and no wind this week in Galveston Tx. I managed to ink out 6,967 miles this year. I'm contemplating finishing the rest of the week off the bike and doing your challenge. See how I feel next week. Just wanted to to let you know how much I love watching your videos. I was an avid Netflix watcher at night before bed, but now I watch your videos and have considered dropping my Netflix subscription LOL. You're the best bro keep cranking them out. Merry Christmas Tim be safe out there!!!!!
Growing up North of you, we went to the Chlidren's Palace by Randall Park Mall. I have a vivid memory of meeting Superhost, Barnaby, Big Chuck & Lil' John, and The Ghoul for some event there.
A good day for a ride! Enjoyed what you said about how you started more with photography, that’s how I started on the channel, but it so happens I’m really into bike riding as well. A perfect blend for me! Best to Edmund, I’ll keep an eye out for the merch!🐈⬛🎉
I love that there are people that were here for photography but were into bikes so they stuck around! Its a select few as the chanel was so small then. Cheers!
I love all of your rides and commentary, especially when working from home it makes me feel like on on the ride with you! So thanks for that! Ps have you seen nick carver's large format photography channel, he's done a projects on buildings that were formerly taco bells. Also his videos are really engaging and great to watch. Mostly urban large format stuff
Hell yeah man nice long ride in. Finally got my bike all back together hoping for a ride this weekend to and from work at least 26 mile round trip. I've done it a few times but then decided to go flat bar single speed on my Ozark trail g1 "gravel" bike. That was a mistake spent double going back to stock 2x but I did get some sweet Kona drop bars and a shimono 105 front derailleur for it. Hope your winter isn't to bad bud and wish y'all a merry Christmas 🎄 from here Oklahoma 🤙✌️
Ohio’s transformation over 45 years has been good and bad. Ohioians oddness sometimes angers, sometimes amuses me. During winter, the limited opportunity to ride my bike leaves me feeling somewhat on edge, as biking is what usually helps me relax. Plus the lack of care and concern for one another these days makes me concerned for cyclist and kids. Everything seems so fast and so careless. I agree with your thoughts about this time of year and the lighting. I like your framing and compositions in your photos. The faint shadows pop more with the winter light in an outdoor setting. Winter always bring more attention to the subject in the photo because of the browns, greys, and blues that fill the back ground. Thanks for sharing your ride and thoughts. Take care.
I fully laughed out loud and scared my dog at the Geese comment 😂. Also we don’t want them either! That’s cool that SIT strings are near you too! You’re 2 for 2 on awesome guitar brands in the area, who’s next?
My upstairs tenant(friend) just brought me home some SIT swag. He fronts "the world's greatest Christmas Band" Missile Toe. Speaking of Christmas music - Chris Butler who put together the Waitresses - and wrote arguably the best indy Christmas song, 'Christmas Wrapping' is an Akron guy. Super-cool dude and friendly.
Cat people are the coolest.😎 I like your local flavor rides. Not every ride has to be epic. Please let us know your opinion on the Ailerons. I'm a big fan of Velocty rims but have not used the Ailerons yet.
Thanks! I dig them but did have a corrosion issue with one of the shiny ones which they did warranty for me with one that has a better coating. I have also dinged them up riding the really rough stuff - rocky New England terrain - I was definitely under-biking though. All in all I still like them as they are light for alloy wheels and look the coolest. They just need to be used as intended - they aren't mountain biking wheels....
Butler County Ohio has 22 circular intersections and a 65% reduction in accidents because of our circular intersections! SW Ohio has a HUGE amount of bicycle trails and HUGE mileage of same! Circular intersections are a HUGE safety increase for cyclists!!!!!!
We have to take advantage of it when we get it! The snow is completely unpredictable these days. We get a lot of grey, rainy days now with global warming...sometimes the pattern shifts though and we get that Canadian air and lake effect snow and we can be buried for a month... It can snow anytime from late October through early April - but it can also be 70!🤷🏻♂️
Curious about your choice of tires for your Raleigh, which you seem to use mostly for road riding. Why did you decide on the knobby Rene Herse tires and do you like them on paved roads?
They feel super fast on the road - but when I do go off I have extra traction. I just don't feel like I lose that much on supple tires like this compared to slicks.
Thanks Tim , and The Onyx one . Why don't you use a bike stand to work on your bikes ? So , that's where the "Kings of Vapor " live ? And , every town has a "Sketchy" store it seems , eh? You can buy a candy bar , or a suitcase nuke , to go ! NQA
I'll use a work stand depending on what I'm doing. In this case though you want to put quick release wheels in the drop outs when the bike is on the ground to make sure it is in all the way and straight. Also - I was trying to get out the door with a quick wipe down while also filming - so my camera is on a little stool I can move around at a good height instead of taking the time to get the bike in the stand and then mess around with a tripod... I guess I don't ever put my bike in the stand to just lube chains though either - those tables happen to be the right size to lean on and I can still spin the pedals. Its really weird with this sketchy store as it isn't at all in a sketchy part of town....but everyone in there is certainly sketchy!
Children’s Palace and Rolling Acres…I think that pic featured my parents station wagon lol. I have been intrigued by the area between Akron to Kenmore/Barberton having grown up in Copley. Thanks Tim

Oh wow! That is some seriously northeast Ohio stuff there! Loved all those dudes - especially Barnaby when I was little.
You never fail Tim. Always a great video. By the way I'm a fan of quick release myself and long live the triple. 🐈⬛
Yup!
Crazy how acclimated your body gets to the cold. Mine has not. My fingers freeze, and the wind is always a pain regardless. 😂
The wind will never cease to be a pain!
I got out and rode today. I'm in Delaware, about three hours South of you. Lots of wind. And a little colder. Enjoyed every minute.

I will definitely have to check that out!

30 bikes later, I also prefer quick releases, even disc hubs. Also, cup and cone bearings are superior.
Yes - I love being able to service cup and cone.
Love that cat.

Love the Velocity Alerons.
Definitely the best looking wheels!

💯
Tim have you ever given a tour of the bike shop that you frequent?
I have interviewed the owner in the shop: ruclips.net/video/-KwK1ieSIpc/видео.htmlsi=j3befL3F06PD4GCx

After watching Terry B being interviewed on his bike in Japan. I need to chill out. 😌
No nappy North... its fat tire season,,, -29 in Our area and the single track bush trails are a go... fat fat fat... North of Montana line Don 😂
Nice!
Hoo boy I remember loving Children's Palace as a kid. I'm in Nebraska, so maybe it's a Midwest thing?
Looks like it was bought an sold a number of time but at its peak it was owned by an MA company.
I fully laughed out loud and scared my dog at the Geese comment 😂. Also we don’t want them either!

We had Children’s Palace in St. Louis Mo. I see Akron has a trash problem like the rest of the U.S. Enjoying your videos
Yup - people dump stuff in the post-industrial areas all the time.
Thanks - cheers!
My November/December always seems to turn into a fitness and riding dead zone. Thanks for a little inspiration today.
The last two years for me - work and bad weather!
Cheers!
Your aren’t lying, that Sunoco is a “unique” place to say the least. Used to stop there on my rides as well. 😂 Great video!
"Unique" is the perfect word.🤠
Cheers!

Nice - we are getting more and more of them here. We’ve ridden the Little Miami a few times.

@TimFitzwater 70 would be nice up there! The good thing here in Florida is that the weather is 60-70s at this time of year 😁 summers are just too hot.
Yeah - I always loved visiting my Orlando-area cousins in late winter!
I’ll be curious for your thoughts on the lobsters. I thought they limited my riding on the hoods. And that gas station is super sketchy.
What kind of helmet is that? looks like it would be good at deflecting bug from flying in
Its a Kali

@you meet some interesting folks in this places. Deposed leaders , goths …
Children’s Palace and Rolling Acres…I think that pic featured my parents station wagon lol. I have been intrigued by the area between Akron to Kenmore/Barberton having grown up in Copley. Thanks Tim
@@TimFitzwater…said the sketchy guy filling his bike bag with beer!
I'm curious, what kind of helmet do you have in this video? I like it's design.

9:30 UNACCEPTABLE TRAFFIC lmao
🏎️
I remember children’s palace!
🏰
Never heard of Children’s Palace.
I looked them up and the company that bought them and expanded it was from CT!
What chain lube for wet winters?
I like Tri-Flo
I see no disadvantage to QR if you're using rim brakes as God intended.
I don't think its that hard to put this gravel bike's disc wheel in the dropouts straight either though. 🤷🏻♂️
