Just tech the throw*
Quick explanation for those of you that don't play Persona/don't know about Naoto's Fate mechanic.
Naoto's opponent starts with 13 Fates at the beginning of the match, certain moves remove 1 or more Fate on hit.
Any move used in a combo after the first will only remove 1 Fate except for shotgun. Shotgun always removes 6 Fate.
Removes 1: 2C, 6D, 5th Shot, B Shots during Raid, Throw+Followup
Removes 2: 2[C], 6CD, 6B+D
Removes 3: Last shot if only 1 bullet remains in your chamber, 5B+D
Removes 4: Traps
Removes 6: Anti-S SP Pistol β, Anti-S SP Pistol SB
Once your opponent is at 0 Fate they can be instant killed by Hama or Mudo.
Hama/Mudo will not instant kill if combo'd into in the same combo that dropped their Fate to 0. This is why S.Naoto stops her combo and does Hama as oki.
Anti-S SP Pistol SB (The SMG + shotgun super) inflicts Silence and Fear, meaning you can't tech throws or use your Persona, which means no Bursting or using your DP if your character needs their Persona to DP.
She gets a lot of options off of Hama oki. A few examples are empty jump 2A, jump delayed airdash j.A, j.A grab whiff 2A. She can also do empty jump throw into Hama/Mudo.
You can spend 50 meter to Guard Cancel Roll the Hama oki. I'm not sure if she has an answer to this tbh

shadow characters sucked on release because they traded burst and awakeninv for unlimited meter for a few seconds, and you'd only ever see them for touch of death combos like this or shadow chie setups
then 2.0 dropped and they were given a proper burst as well so they were just better. not to mention shadow frenzy is unburstable. so basically they turned the glass cannon characters into fortified cannons
like before 2.0 you might as well just play elizabeth if you want a touch of death on the entire cast but also want to keep burst + awakening

@@jammychoo She isn't, only Shadow Chie and Yu can be considered broken since not only did they have ToDs, but they also kept the best aspects of the originals(Chie keeping her insane damage, Yu keeping his..well being a stupidly well rounded character).
Every other Shadow was niche(Shadow Yosuke having a reset combo that looked really good but wasnt really worth it, Shadow Naoto being able to instakil..even though Elizabeth could do it on everyone)
Now in 2.0 tohugh(which didnt come overseas sadly), they were just about better.

Basically, Naoto has a mechanic that allows you to insta-kill by marking them with one super, then using the other super to do the instakill.
Shadow versions has a mode that gives them basically ‘infinite’ super moves.
Basically, the shadow version allows them to instakill in one combo.

There is also the fact is not officially on PC, messing with the Nesica Port is just too much, and no one at this point wants to mess with a 360 or One, and since we never oficially got 2.0, no one cares at this point.
The best bet is either create an even newer revision or another sequel at this point

meta knight is balanced every other character just sucks so bad that the majority of stages were banned and blame was placed on our balanced meta knight
For what it's worth, that feeling of sudden dread you might feel once you see Shadow Naoto start to use Hama/Mudo is pretty much the exact same dread in actual Persona games when you get targeted by those same skills. So... points to ArkSys for faithfulness? /s

Also, this isn't the version we're getting on Steam, PS4, and Switch. This is 1.1, we're getting 2.50 (which is most likely 2.0 with patches). Shadows are actually good in 2.0 though so lol but they don't carry meter between rounds. So no more round start death.

It always bothered me that the promotional art showed all the playable characters as shadows but they werent in-game. I wanted shadow adachi/Margaret/elizabeth.
Sorry for being super late on this, but not everyone's a Shadow on that cover, actually! Adachi, Marie, and technically Margaret/Elizabeth aren't affected. Sho becomes Minazuki, which isn't a Shadow either. Margaret and Elizabeth look much more smug, but I don't think they're Shadows since they're attendants. Marie is normal but obviously worried about the Shadows around her, meanwhile Adachi is just like

Reversal burst, s.frenzy without getting 100meter but using the burst, insane meter gain and unburstable combos over an S.Frenzy, easy TODs, and a gameplan totally different than regular characters, that's why 2.0 made the Shadows worse. There are regular characters that are still strong (technically equal) without using Shadows like Yu, Yukari, Aigis, Rise, etc.

In 2013, there was Naoto. A fighting game character with what were basically insta-kill moves.
In 2019, there was Hero. A fighting game character with what were basically insta-kill moves.

Hero can kill at 0% yes but Hero still needs to get that chance via RNG.
Shadow Naoto on the other hand...
i know this is old and all, but there are plenty of characters in smash who can kill at 0, and they arent tied to ultra laggy rng down b menu or crits. crits are silly but none of his smash attacks are good anyway, so.

Hero buffing himself up with one of his down b moves and a random crit smash attack can do like... i dont know.. 60-70%, maybe even 80? when at the edge that's already enough to kill.
