Kanji on the outside: "He's not a guy?"
Kanji on the inside: "I'M NOT GAY, WOOOOOO!"
Everyone else: ...We're still gonna assume you are anyway.
Kanji: Aw man.
Satan Maizono 😂😂😂
oml your profile pic tho
Rambler lol 😂😂😂
I thought the director confirmed Kanji is Bi.
Naoto is a detective, both her parent's were killed, and she was raised by an elderly man
Naoto is female Batman
So batgirl
That's Barbara Gordon.
Very happy bat man (bro bat man is super sad and depresive you can have a asshole live but you still happyer than bat man )
she is batwoman
joker from persona: (・-・;)
Naoto: Don't worry I won't let her bother me
*Literally 2 minutes later*
Naoto: KHDLHXHLLYDDLDS YOU AREN'T ME
Jim Phoenix in every dungeon the victim always have a low iq
Can you imagine Kanji crying in his bed for what Naoto's shadow told
her
I don't think she ever said that. She only said "That's not true" but didn't finish the boss fight ritual.
@@rageleague188 and with that, the shadow needed some time to get into her nerves, at some point that KANJI! The most stupid in the group, have time to think how he can hold Naoto to say the magical boss words, but have even more time to think how she will live worried if he do so, meanwhile the others are like
Shadow: *mean thing*
Anyone: YOU ARE NOT ME!
Fun fact: naoto was planned to be a guy who was mistaken a lot for being a girl but was changed to a girl but the fact that people mistook her for the opposite gender still remained
Cesar Vera, that’s why I like her character design, she looks cool in boys clothing, and she looks cute when she wears female clothing
Thanks, I didn't know that. It makes the beginning of the confrontation really interesting then: like the 1st draft was for the revelation to be: "Naoto has a childish view of what it means to work in/alongside law enforcement and the motivations of the people who do," and then the final draft was: "Most of that is still true, which is within Naoto's ability to control, but it's compounded by the 'just-barely-unspoken' sexism in law enforcement generally and Japan in particular, which is outside of Naoto's control." It's hard to say which is ultimately more apropos to the story's central theme of "How People View Themselves is Influence by How Their Society Views Them, Even When They Factually Know Better," as the Male Naoto could have turned into a brutal takedown of the shota stories that make up the bulk of Pop Japanese Fiction. On the other hand, Female Naoto addresses the more subtle nuances of sexism that have no easy resolutions. Laws and oversight don't necessarily correct people's preconceived biases, especially when they're reinforced by such thorough idolization of certain archetypes. Naoto's shadow even tells her that none of her personal heroes, at least within her desired profession, are women.
it was the reverse with Teddie.
Stop talking about me
Naoto Shirogane lmao
4:52 it’s confirmed Naoto isn’t a guy or a girl she’s buzz lightyear
so it's a guy then
unless buzz lightyear is an attack helicopter or something
Thomas Strohl yes he is.
he is an attack helicopter
he is a toy
TheLazyAlien “ *she’s* buzz light year “
Y O U A R E A T O Y ! ! !
Lol, I always kinda giggle when I see how extremely small Naoto's initial persona is.
zelpyzelp like a tiny insect
@@KTam853 thats actually the design theme it has a moth or butterfly theme to it
Ikr but it would be even funnier if her persona was huge
@@estheriooo Dancing All Night got you covered.
But the weapon is long and thick.
Naoto's shadow is unique from other shadows in the way that it is almost entirely reasonable. Besides the fact that the shadow is brutally confrontational, they speak as equals.
"There's no avoiding first principles. Admit that you're a child, and admit that there's nothing you can do about it."
...thats not unreasonable. Naoto is 15. The shadow very pointedly tells her what she needs to change, and is fair about it.
"They made you cry, didnt they? Yet here you are, mimicking those same men. What exactly are you trying to justify?"
She's right. Mimicking the jerks that marginalised her wont give her what she wants: Acceptance.
The body-modification idea and taunting her because of her own childish tendencies to justify isolation are a bit extreme, but otherwise, even Naoto's most negative aspect is looking for solutions, as opposed to solely validation like the other shadows.
+Gibus Edgeless Shirogane's shadow was always my favourite. All members of the investigation team have multiple, deeply rooted problems, but only shadow Shirogane truly displayed this in my opinion, cleverly behaving less like one and more like two to capture more of Shirogane. It switches between who she perceives herself to be to who she desires to be, helping to capture exactly who she is and how she feels. The secret base themed area also helps a great deal, not only capturing the whole "You're only a child," thing but also in a way symbolising how secretive she is about this whole thing, and that's brilliant in my opinion. I'm sure the others did a good job too, but this is the best I've seen so far.
you can also tie it to the fact she specializes in both light and darkness(with a touch of almighty and stat buffing)
This sounds incrediblystupid to ask, but does body modification mean sex change?
Nich White Yes. It’s not explicitly stated as such, but “body modification surgery” to “cross the barrier between sexes” makes it pretty damn obvious.
Shadow Naoto is the most intelligent Shadow, what with the ACTUAL STRATEGY!!
every time teddie says Bearsona I automatically think: “🅱️ERSONA”

I also like how this scene sort of confirms that to an extent, somebody doesn't have to specifically say "You're not me" in order for a Shadow to take it's true form. Chie calls out to try to prevent Naoto from saying that, but even then she already believes it fully and that's enough for Naoto's Shadow to fully take form.
Same goes for Mitsuo
The childish gestures are no mere affectation, they're the TROOTH!

man, out of all the shadows, naoto's has to be my favorite. the way she speaks, and the fact that everything about the situation was well-written enough, not appearing as half-assed or overly cutesy and squishy. i like that a lot
also at 12:31 for some reason, it was chie moving her hand as if she was talking when it was yukiko who actually talked
it's epic
I liked how up until 4:08 Naoto was trying to keep up her facade of being a male by continuing to deepen her voice until she was pushed too far by her shadow self she just throws it all to the wind.
Adachi: "I got the most brains in the whole police department!"
OH NO WE'RE SCREWED!!!
Adachi is damn good at hiding that he's evil
But it's true,do you know the guy?
@@RitsuSakuma69 The best thing is is that the entire conversation was concrete evidence that he DID have the most brains in the whole police department. I'm pretty sure he wasn't even drunk, he was just running his mouth in order to keep Narukami captivated and stay under Dojima's radar.
Nanako
"What does "got brains" mean?
I died when I saw
*It means he's not an athlete*
Shadow:I am a Shadow the true self
Yu:Guys Should we stop them
Random person:Your not me
Yu:Welp shit
Interesting that Naoto apparently had no trouble at all putting up with her Shadow when alone, but the moment other people enter the room to witness this scene, Shadow Naoto suddenly goes hard mode on her.
It probably realised “There are others in here? If they interfere I cannot commence the operation. No more fooling about: I must resort to the cold hard truth.”
I feel like that's because Naoto herself is probably quite aware of her shadow, probably a good long while before this encounter. Therefore, she's probably quite used to it and knows how to at the very least get it to shut up. But when a bunch of people that are strangers to you, are suddenly exposed to that side of you, it would freak anyone out.
@@bluebird1914 agreed. She's self-aware at most of her problems, she's just not ready for others to see that part of her
It actually kinda confuses me that she still dies if you miss the deadline but shsushshs
because shadow naoto reading some strobg energy on the investigation team

Kanji - He's not a guy?
Yosuke - SO KANJI'S DUNGEON DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Ren Yuzu it has to do with him liking cute things
@@Eduardo-mz6cr and of the fact that his hobbies are really feminine, which partly made him question his sexuality too.
His dungeon exists because he thinks no one accept him because of what people think of him or what he does, he just want to be accepted for who he is.
Um...Kanji’s isn’t exactly about homosexuality, but rather, expectations on men and definition of masculinity.
Kanji: looks at Yosuke then slaps him in the back of the neck
....
Naoto didnt say "YOU ARE NOT ME"
But Shadow Naoto doesn't like Kanji. XD
+Thomas Strohl But shadows need to hear the host say "YOU ARE NOT ME" to gain the power to transform and become individual.
+-discontinued-
Not those words specifically, note what Kanji said to his Shadow 'There's no way in hell that you're me!'. it's not the words, just the action of denying the Shadow.
HOLY SHIT
Yeah the shadow said YOU ARE ME or something like that
and then naoto said THATS NOT TRUE
That's basically the same as YOURE NOT ME XD
18:32 man adachi is such a nice man. He really cares for yu and his family. I hope he doesn’t get hurt at the end
This didn't age well lol, too bad nanakos the killer
actually, he's on air in p4 arena again, before that, dojima still visited him in prison many times, he is not in a bad relationship with dojima family including yu, he was just the true culprit and he had to be caught
@@Cholincy I thought yumi was the killer
it was so sad when Nanako killed him 😢
Yu and the Dojima's probably the only people Adachi actually cares about, even if he'd try to deny it if pressed.
I love the fact Kanji was the one trying to help Naoto progress the most. Not saying the others didn't want it but he certainly knew that it would only get better if she just dealt with the shadow on her own. And then at the end, as he said just kick the shadow's ass.

I'm honestly surprised that the crew didn't figure out initially that Naoto was a woman. That was what I thought when I first saw her.

ShadowStar1997 the voice gave it away but in the animation it’s kinda not obvious

If you completed the game, u know that comment it means a lot.
I love how out of everyone in the room, Kanji is the most level-headed in the situation, especially out of personal experience.
when I saw the first scene of this boss, the fact that Naoto is lonely and wants company and yet rejects giving company to her shadow and even talks badly of her shadow(ie herself) just fucked with my heart so bad. I wasn't expecting the childish sounding shadow either so that doubled down on my heart strings.
Everyone With Their Shadow : NOOOOOOOOOOO
Naoto with her shadow : Let's Talk For A While
I mean, we could evade the bossfight if the crew could have some tea and cookies for a formal talk.
@@franconunez925 In an ideal world yeah, but these are all people who have a lot of issues with themselves. Also, if your deepest issues were just revealed in front of a group of strangers, would you not be uncomfortable and deny it? Sure with Yukiko for instance, Chie was there, but even then, having a secret that you didn't want to tell someone just suddenly being told to that person would cause anyone to react like that.
At 18:28 Adachi puts strange emphasis on "if you were mixed up in it"--I don't know if that was a conscious decisions by JYB, but looking back on it now it sounds a little suspicious in a delicious way.
It's a way to foreshadow his status as the killer. They gave him subtle dialogues
She’s the culprit and he’s onto her
I love how her voice gets higher through the dialogue!
Shadow Naoto is Persona’s definition of a smart video game boss, not only when it comes to knowledgeability (since the real deal has her fair share of smarts), but also when it comes to adapting to the player’s fighting style.
M.I.P. Men in Persona. Cause...their costume.

to me, it's like Kingsman: Izanami's Awakening
I love the small detail that all the character portraits on the status bar on the right side of the screen are looking upwards in Persona 4, but look downwards in Persona 3.
Oh, that's good
4:31 The most badass line from a shadow before transforming into a boss
I still love that unlike in past dungeons where the victim is begging their shadow to stop by the time you get to them, naoto is just like "ah, took you long enough"
4:09 Naoto's true voice coming through.
That damn cry, I mean shit, even her shadow makes me want to protect her, best girl confirmed
"Are you sick of yourselves too?"
I'd rather not go through any procedures if you're the one conducting it.
I like Naoto's story here.
I like how the group was like "nooo don't say you're not me" when Naoto literally started the convo with "You wear the same face as me... It's as if you're implying we're implying we're one and the same. But the difference between me and you is..." like it's so funny that the fight didn't start right then and there
I love the way Naoto says "Iiiiii am a shadowwww."
The shadow sounds like the mom from my life as a teenage robot
The Magic Blade XJ9 with that weird but funny accent
The Magic Blade Fuck, I miss that show.
4:30 - Kanji may have a crush on you, but never insult a man who can punch his own Shadow 😂
Here comes the men in black
Just as Kanji represents ambiguous sexuality/bisexuality, Naoto represents ambiguous gender. The thing about both of them is that it doesn’t matter what box you put them in or label them, they are what they are. Does Kanji’s sexuality change whether Naoto is male or female? No...because she’s ambiguous. It just means Kanji likes people who look and act like Naoto does lol which is both male and female at the same time. It’s very complex...and very compelling
In truth, Kanji just wanted some acceptance from others, while Naoto was a case study on self-acceptance.
While I agree with Kanji's sexuality being ambiguous, you do realize that Naoto's whole deal wasn't that she wants to be a man, or identifies as one. But rather, that she pretends to be one because that's the only way she is able to succeed in her workplace. Therefore, making Naoto an actual man would change her entire arc.
@@bluebird1914 Maybe I didn't make that clear, but yes, that's what I was trying to say. Naoto's story arc is about the physical expression of gender, a different discussion from Kanji's, but their stories influence each other. Naoto's arc was not about sexual attraction or inner confusion, but rather about being seen for her keen mind, and, to that end, floats between the binaries of male and female (which makes her ambiguous, because on first glance you would accept her as either male or female). Kanji represented sexual ambiguity (attraction) and Naoto represented ambiguous gender (which is entirely about outer appearance and presentation, not the inner self). TLDR I think we're on the same page :D
lol Chie's persona is a sith
firepokemon2014 you should see her ultimate persona, she looks like Chie's original persona but has a black and white colour scheme
Red Kyber crystals are conduits for the Dark Side...
Well she did accept her true self, even the dark side (;
Naoto Shirogane is not just my Favourite Persona Character, but also one of my favourite Video Game characters.
I was waiting for this confrontation. I wanted to see how a highly intelligent person talks to their shadow. It's great the shadow is just as intelligent as Naoto herself. I thought that Naoto wouldn't immediately fall for emotional manipulation, and she doesn't at first. But the shadow, having equal intellect, knows how to build a case, how to build an argument and use that to tear down Naoto's logic so that she can get to the heart of the matter and get Naoto to reject her.
This game hits the hardest topics with it's main theme, and even though I never played the game, the anime gave me a good idea of the things this game talks about

SOUND THE HORN
Easily one of the better fights in the game simply because she doesn’t take forever to defeat.
The anime had a better voice. Here its debatable whether Naoto is male or not. In the anime she has a deeper voice making a bit more believable that she is a guy.

after all these years do people really still see naoto as trans? it's clearly an allegory of the misoginy in asia and wanting to be heard to the point that you reject that self entirely... if you're trans yourself then I'd get it if you see it that way, but...
I came to the comments just to see this, it really makes no sense why people think of it as a trans allegory just because of the fact that she DOES see herself as a girl, just wishes she had the will and whim to do what a man could at the time. There was no other reason she wanted to be a man.
@@phgumerr646 It's because the shadow, as the manifestation of the repressed self, is meant to reflect hidden truths and values.
How could one NOT intuit that a being which tries to change your sex, albeit in a barbaric and horridly ill-represented way, is implying such a thing?
It literally say "body alteration procedure" to "cross the barriers of sex."
It's not a GOOD trans allegory, in fact it'd be pretty bloody transphobic, but I'm not sure how one could fail to see it.
@TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS yeah that's understandable honestly thanks
Naoto is not trans for the simple fact that she accepts herself as she was born.
On the other hand, this seems to be an allegory for equal rights since she wanted to be respected and treated like men.
