When we decided stop making machine tools (because they could be made cheaper overseas), we decided not to be a world power. Year by year, that decision roots in deeper and deeper. Everything else follows from it.

Question: Do you think that the truckers that allow the load brokers to force them to accept loads at or below cost will actually drive these truckers out of the market?

No lie, rates have been dragging in the cellar for months. Last week and a half it’s been upticking ever so slightly. Leased on with Baylor Trucking which was positioned in a great spot with 51% of the operation one-way freight, 42% expedited, and 7% reefer for the online boom (Walmart, ups and ups healthcare, Amazon plus some legacy customers). Unfortunately, Line Haul rates have shrunk this past year, but, with Werner buying out BAYLOR, been able to pickup Werner freight which, surprisingly has had better line haul rates, since UPS, Walmart, and Amazon slashed rates by over half. Hopefully, with the infrastructure boom supposedly kicking off this summer, we can get some relief.

It's stacked up off the coast of Panama. Ships can't get through due to the drought. They are asking shippers to ship less so they can float the ships through the locks.

Although I no longer go out to Los Angeles and move containers back to Phoenix, my information on the lack of loads coming into the ports of LA and Long Beach, is that due to the contract negotiations between the Longshoremans Union and the shipping companies, that freight is being rerouted through the Panama Canal and up to Houston, Miami, Savannah Georgia, and elsewhere. The Korean mafia has operations in both Houston and Savannah. I get this information from guys that drive our 53 foot vans. The Korean mafia warehouses various motorized products such as minibikes, small motorcycles, chainsaws, snow blowers, dune buggy‘s, etc. our guys in the 53 foot van transport this equipment coast to coast. Our yard and Phoenix even has a sizable warehouse full of this equipment. Unfortunately, since last September, more than 3/4 of my paychecks have been for less than $1000 gross per week. My pay is $25 an hour, so at 40 hours a week, that would be $1000. I can’t live like this any longer. I’ll be switching probably to fuel for Circle K, Pilot Flying J, or some other fuel company. No matter what knucklehead wants to go electric and no matter how hard it is pushed, gasoline will be flowing for at least the next 15 years. With any luck, I’ll be near death by then!

You forgot about over capacity. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry got a CDL and entered the market looking to make a quick buck when the narrative was all about a “driver shortage.” There never was a shortage. Also, now that nearly every new truck off the line has an automated transmission, it lowers the bar of entry. Now any dipshit that can hold a steering wheel yet doesn’t possess the coordination or mental capacity to double clutch or synchronize a transmission can “drive” a rig. Just push a button or turn a knob and mash the accelerator.

Oh that's funny all of a sudden when the shippers want to save money they have all the time in the world to wait for their shipment of goods!
I could have sworn they made the trucking industry, "just in time", cut wages and forced hours of service onto their drivers because they were more preoccupied with 'safety'? 🤔

Can you really blame load brokers for maximizing their profits? I mean it’s supply and demand. If, or really when, the market shifts and there are more loads to be moved than trucks available would a driver not try to get as much as he can to haul? Of course he or she will.

63,000 truck loads taken off the roads means less trucks on the road. Less trucks that 4wheelers has to deal with. 4wheelers can get to where they are going much easier!!!
