Hey there Driver. Thanks for dropping by to watch our latest upload. Have you ever known any old school truckers, with hot trucks? Any legends that you've ever had the privilegee to know? Love to hear from you.
The comment box doesn't show up. I have to comment here. It sounds almost like he came to end do to age
How old was he when he came to a stop OTR?
It’s such a shame that trucking is nothing like it used to be to be. Drivers use to be like brothers, always willing to help each other. Had respect for themselves and others. Very few are like that now a days. Thanks for what you do. God Bless you.
I'm 80 years old and a old school trucker Sorry to hear about the China Man .Ya gone are the days . It's Sad to see
I consider my self old school and ironically I just purchased a 1986 Freightliner FLC120. My name is Mike also. R.I.P. Mike. I just turned 70 and did 20 years long haul coast to coast. Great article thank you
Dad passed away a couple months ago. He was of the OLD SCHOOL breed. Jerry "BEAR" Kinnin Sr.
I miss him every day.
I'm trying to train up the new guys
To Dad's and mine standards.
.
Thank you for posting this beautiful tribute for Mike. He was a good man & friend to my family. RIP Mike 🕊️
Thanks for the tales Dave. Some Millennials don’t want to believe the tales of what drivers used to get away with-or at least try to get away with. I guess I might feel the same way had I not seen it with my own eyes and done some of it myself. More than a few times we would see the eyes of the scale attendant at the receiver pop open in surprise when we stopped on their scale. We would run fast and run hard all day and night, and then sleep when we got to where we were going. As Bob Spooner said, “You can’t get away with that today.” The days of truly running outlaw are nothing more than a distant memory, but I am grateful to have seen it.
Love the center license plate in the still photo before the video begins “BIG CAR” 👍
Very nice story about a trucking legend. In my 48 years hauling for a chocolate company I knew a few myself. Some of the finest people you could ever know. I personally knew Gene Smith El Turbo who ran a 1949 Peterbilt for 50 years in California. He's been gone a while and his truck is in the Keystone Truck Museum in Virginia.
Sounds like you were blessed to be his friend Dave, my sincerest condolences for the loss of your friend.❤
It’s so sad seeing the ogs passing. My respect! I started driving in 92. Nothing like you guys but I see the changes in the industry. Only wish I was jamming gears in the 70s
We love hearing the old school stories.
Nice story at the end there. RIP China man. I’m curious on how he got the name lol I’m sure there’s a story behind that one too.
My condolences Dave🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you for sharing. Awesome video.
It is sad. My buddies like that are dying off too. Some of those old timers swore by those 2 stroke Detroits.
Respectable outlaw trucker!!!!
Driver I’d love ❤️ to 👂 far more old school driver’s stories as that was real! Deepest Condolences 💐 I love 💕 old school trucks as they’re real rigs! 10-4
Nice story thank u! For sharing! I’ve been driving OTR 2 1/2 years I love to say hello to the older truckers when I fuel or when i am getting loaded or unloaded. Last week I said hello to a trucker that had been driving 61 years! God bless! all truckers!especially the old boys! I love their style.
61 years...that sounds like a career!!! Be safe🙏
R.I.P. Mike i remember the Pegasus truck well I got busted with him going around the Kentucky scales it didn't help with him having straight pipes and Jake on that 8v82 drawing attention haha
I had the pleasure of meeting him back in the early days of running from Wisconsin to California. It was people like him that made me what I am today , I don’t truck a lot but I still run Wisconsin to Washington with my old Pete. I learned a lot from people like him. I would watch how they did it. He was one of the legends!
A tip of the hat to The China Man! Rest easy, brother! Thanks for the story, Dave.
Great video, there aren’t many of the old iconic American Truckers left anymore, today sucks, miss the old days, again, great video
Thanks , Dave
RIP , China Man ....... 🙏
Respect an memories for guys like my dad. Even tried to explain deregulation in 72, I didn't know till later. Many thx.
Im old school and will stick it out a few more years, I do miss trucking as it was 40 years ago.
I pulled that 48' /96"chicken wagon out to the coast after Mike sold it to Edgar.Used to sneak around BC back in the day with one axle tied up on that 10' 6" spread.Better days back then for sure!Never met Mike..wish I did..RIP Chinaman
Legends never die
Rip China.... Casper down in Phoenix has a co seat for you
Sad day for trucking i didn't know him very well
But do remember both them trucks
Lyv to hear your stories! RIP China Man
Old school Trucking was a blast my dad was one and a good passed on friend of mine and I was at the tail end of it.
Someone needs to make a movie about old school truckers
Old truckers NEVER die Dave! They just get their Peter bilt! I know, it's an old one!
Didn't 359s have some sort of air or electric solenoid so that the driver could open the hood with just 1 hand?
I like being an old school truck driver.
Rest in Peace China Man . Dave I never met Mike but would see his Freightliner on 40 a few times and when I said see him " it was his tail lights " . We are fading out a little at a time , I'm 76 & read where old driver friends have did there last DOWN SHIFT. Thanks Dave for your vids & stories.
It was the old-timers that first got me interested in the a truck driver and later as a owner operator, looking back I sure miss a lot of the guy's who helped me out when I first got started, the good advice they gave me, and even showed me how to work on my truck and fix things myself, back before deregulation, inflation, cheaper fuel, before cell phones, computers, when guy's still used CB's and spoke ENGLISH, before the EPA, and save the earth environmentalists collectively lost there minds and targeted the trucking industry and manufacturers, engine makers, driver's etc.etc we used to be a proud industry, consisting of hard working men who just wanted to make a living and support their families...
Did you know that environmental laws etc are being used to impose a socialist agenda.
Environmentalists not only worship nature, but also the political power of any and all governments worldwide which they want to use to control those who do not share their beliefs
I was always dodging the scales in Ohio on I70😊
Awesome story, brother!
I’m 60 now and the industry has definitely changed.
My dad drove from 46-83 and would not be impressed with the drivers on the road today. Many of the guys coming out of the south had confederate flags on their grills. Try that today
Great story! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice story
Great video. Sry for your loss my friend.
He's grabbin gears in a place where all truckers go Valhalla! Skoal!
Unfortunately, the old school drivers are becoming scarce!!! I am so grateful to these guys and their service to this profession that I enjoy!!
Never heard of aluminum trailers back when i was driving
Classy🙏
Dam I hate losing people
Enjoy your stories. Back in the day, we did what we had to do.
We still got my 80 year old boss
How did he get the handle “chinaman”? Condolences my friend.
I quit trucking, because of the New age Trucking. Trucking was a lifestyle in the day. Now Trucking is just a rotten job.
Wow. Running overweight, over length, running scales and speeding. Now we wonder why the FMCSA tightened its grip with E-Logs and stricter regs. All because many truckers are honest or maybe not.
All the old school truckers in South Africa have unfortunately disappeared. 😢 Today's steering wheel holders are an absolute joke. Ex minibus taxi drivers, "driving" big trucks 🙄🙄
Let's rather say: steering big trucks to the next big crash...
