    It’s such a shame that trucking is nothing like it used to be to be. Drivers use to be like brothers, always willing to help each other. Had respect for themselves and others. Very few are like that now a days. Thanks for what you do. God Bless you.

    Dad passed away a couple months ago. He was of the OLD SCHOOL breed. Jerry "BEAR" Kinnin Sr.
    I miss him every day.
    I'm trying to train up the new guys
    To Dad's and mine standards.

    Thanks for the tales Dave. Some Millennials don’t want to believe the tales of what drivers used to get away with-or at least try to get away with. I guess I might feel the same way had I not seen it with my own eyes and done some of it myself. More than a few times we would see the eyes of the scale attendant at the receiver pop open in surprise when we stopped on their scale. We would run fast and run hard all day and night, and then sleep when we got to where we were going. As Bob Spooner said, “You can’t get away with that today.” The days of truly running outlaw are nothing more than a distant memory, but I am grateful to have seen it.

    Very nice story about a trucking legend. In my 48 years hauling for a chocolate company I knew a few myself. Some of the finest people you could ever know. I personally knew Gene Smith El Turbo who ran a 1949 Peterbilt for 50 years in California. He's been gone a while and his truck is in the Keystone Truck Museum in Virginia.

    I had the pleasure of meeting him back in the early days of running from Wisconsin to California. It was people like him that made me what I am today , I don’t truck a lot but I still run Wisconsin to Washington with my old Pete. I learned a lot from people like him. I would watch how they did it. He was one of the legends!

    Old truckers NEVER die Dave! They just get their Peter bilt! I know, it's an old one!
    Didn't 359s have some sort of air or electric solenoid so that the driver could open the hood with just 1 hand?

    It was the old-timers that first got me interested in the a truck driver and later as a owner operator, looking back I sure miss a lot of the guy's who helped me out when I first got started, the good advice they gave me, and even showed me how to work on my truck and fix things myself, back before deregulation, inflation, cheaper fuel, before cell phones, computers, when guy's still used CB's and spoke ENGLISH, before the EPA, and save the earth environmentalists collectively lost there minds and targeted the trucking industry and manufacturers, engine makers,driver's etc.etc we used to be a proud industry, consisting of hard working men who just wanted to make a living and support their families...

    • @jks3849
      @jks3849 13 дней назад

      Did you know that environmental laws etc are being used to impose a socialist agenda.
      Environmentalists not only worship nature, but also the political power of any and all governments worldwide which they want to use to control those who do not share their beliefs

    Wow. Running overweight, over length, running scales and speeding. Now we wonder why the FMCSA tightened its grip with E-Logs and stricter regs. All because many truckers are honest or maybe not.

    All the old school truckers in South Africa have unfortunately disappeared. 😢 Today's steering wheel holders are an absolute joke. Ex minibus taxi drivers, "driving" big trucks 🙄🙄
    Let's rather say: steering big trucks to the next big crash...
