    What are your sketchbook goals?

    • @liesbethartlife
      @liesbethartlife Год назад +2

      Using it in a scrapbook form, adding papers, loose sketches I made on the bus, tickets, hospital bands, or things that reminds me of the reason I made that piece. It’s more a surreal expressive sketchbook, and not like a sketchbook for practice or ideas for bigger pieces alone. That’s why I stopt sharing all my sketching and art on Instagram as it’s became more personal

    • @liesbethartlife
      @liesbethartlife Год назад +1

      Another goal is to buy and rebuy the sketchbook I like and trying not to get in the temptation to try some other brand, format, paper etc which I will end up hating and not filling or just stopt sketching. I’m now in love with an a4 size Aurora sketchbook and I already have bought 2 others for when this one is full.

      To actually finish one. I'm almost 43, have been using sketchbooks since I could walk and have never completed one. I own over a hundred different sketchbooks and partially use them all but give up and move on too soon.

    HOT TIP! for those who get stressed with ugly pages in a sketchbook and get crippled by the idea of having to have *the perfect sketchbook*. Don't have a sketchbook! I only use single sheets, and i keep working in progress, finished, and uglies in three seperate dividers. At the end of the year I put all my finished sketches into a binder with all my other drawings that made the cut. Then I have my perfect sketchbook :)) The uglies just get kept in a seperate place, physically away from my pretty binder. But, you could totally throw out your ugly pages and start with a clean slate the next year if that makes you feel better.

      That’s so incredibly smart oml?? Not only does it solve the problem I commented, but so many other challenges that I face when it comes to traditional art as well :0 I’m definitely doing that!!

      I do something similar, like I would draw on a seperate piece of paper and if I like it, I'll glue it into my sketchbook. It also gives a bit of that scrapbook vibe which I enjoy too.

    Another Tip for Perfectionists [like myself]
    Draw with pen!! Not pens that you can friction erase, but just any pen gel or ballpoint, etc. It’s more of a commitment and kinda forces you to be confident in what you put down on the page! I’ve also found I do some of my best sketches are in pen rather than pencil! It also allows me to be looser!

    I never expected one of my comments to appear in a video 🤯 But yeah, ruining your supplies can be a bad thing. Pens are usually not expensive, but where I live art stores are few and far between, and none of them are big. I struggle to find my favorites supplies sometimes.
    I have flattened quite a lot of pen nibs. Its not a good feeling knowing you screwed a supply you cant readily get again.

    I really love seeing all the different ways sketchbooks can be filled out! Going back to older pages and "filling" empty areas as a warmup is an excellent way to make progress - no one likes to sit on a page for too long, haha.

    Having bad pages at the start is so discouraging. I've been thinking of starting from the last page so I wouldn't need to see the bad pages. 🤔

    Super pumped for this video because I recently created my own sketch book. So my goals are 1. To make it look like the rainbow ( i'm inspired by your colourful sketchbook tours and Doodle Traffic), 2. Explore different mediums, 3. Practice backgrounds, 4. Try out collages, 5. Create detailed spreads(once again inspired by you and @Jess Karp), 5. Improve anatomy, 6. Try my best to be consistent and 7. JUST HAVE FUN, it's my little art gallery afterall❤

    You genuinely have inspired me so much, the way you can sketch with seemingly ease, the way you don’t care if a page is messy, and I love it. I’ve stared using markers more and coloured pencils, I just ordered a set of erasable pencil crayons and totally stopped using pencils. About to go dig out my water colours

    For me I always get two notebooks. One is a dry media sketchbook I use for practicing new techniques or old ones that I don't care about finishing or being messy. Then my mixed media sketchbook I take to do those techniques that I've practiced to do finished pieces. Took a lot of pressure off me to be perfect or fill it all the way

  • @pt.bonesy

    My solution was to make my own. I take scraps of recycled paper, construction paper, or cheap mixed media paper and sew em into little pamphlets I call “crapbooks”. I like having sketchbooks and paper bundled into a nice compact thing but premade one’s always feel like I gotta keep ‘em perfect, so that’s what I do now. If I make a good looking drawing in them or do a technique that works, I just cut it out and glue it in my pre-made sketchbook. Another problem I have is that I love sketching on toned paper a lot but I can’t get my hands on any mixed media ones except strathmore which are pricey in my area.
    I’ve also made a few “serious” sketchbooks and found myself feeling more at ease, but it’s also tough for me to get paper in the right size cause I like square books :/

    for people who are tempted to rip out their "ugly" or "ruined" pages - try painting over them instead! that way you can still use the page, it doesn't ruin the structural integrity of your sketchbook, and it adds some excitement to whatever you end up turning that page into! bonus points if you use a fun colour!

    I spend too much time in my daily sketchbook pages 😭 Too prone to perfectionism in my studies. I really need to set a timer and quit treating every study like it needs to perfectly replicate what I see!
    Also what are those juicy crayons you used on top of your markers?? :O I was impressed how opaque they are.

    Hey, don't know how relevant this is gonna be on a 6 month old vid when the internets collective attention span is about 37 seconds, but, as some one rediscovering there passion for drawing at 30 I found something out about myself that may help others. I realized I had aphantasia, about a year ago now (the inability to visualize images in the minds eye). This, for one, is part of the reason I gave up in the first place years ago, because I didn't understand that I had to learn differently than others. But, two, it's a big factor in my hesitation to use colored pencil and paint in my work, I can't picture how the colors will look until there on the page, and that used to frustrate me to no end. Now I understand, for me atleast, it's about experimenting with the cheap stuff and in small amounts, making color plates on the the side of the page first, things like that. Don't give up, just because you need to take a different approach doesn't mean it's not for you.

    I wanna make drawing fun again. Ever since I got into animation school I feel like my love for drawing has been getting smaller. I hate everything I do, I feel like I'm never doing anything for myself & when I finally do get time to do something for myself I don't wanna do it 'cause I either don't know what to do or I'm so tired of drawing for others & so unmotivated about the work that didn't go well. It's been so frustrating, I've been crying about it like a baby but I feel stuck & idk what to do :(

  • @qiyiyi29
    @qiyiyi29 Год назад +3

    I like your video! they are so well designed and I love the colors. it is very fun to see you use different mediums, I fear to try.
    One of my problem is, if I'd draw a page like the one you did in this video, I would plan what I want to draw and measure the size of each area, in the end there won't be enough time on the day and the next day I just lost the interest of finish the page.... that happened many times. I spent so much time on planning but wasted in the end, I even went on photoshop to layout all the images before I started my sketchbook.🥲
    I want to draw freely and just start to draw without planning.
    I'm working on this, I bought an A6 size of sketchbook to draw, the page is small enough for me to fit 1-3 things in it. and I don't force myself to complete one page per day, just do it whenever I want, and not showing it to anybody, that helps!😄

    I want to use mixed media sketchbooks so I can use the art supplies I have, but I have a bunch of older sketchbooks with lighter weight paper and I hate when the paper get wrinkled, besides those, I have a bunch of pictures I've saved that I want to use for studies but have never actually used. I'd like to get through those pics to help fill up my sketchbooks.

    well i havent seen anyone talking about thing that i have but srs im getting so tired of this
    my problem is i always used to redraw stuff from pictures or other arts when i was younger and today i try to change shit and making it somehow more cooler but first of all thats lame and second thats getting boring. then ill think wtf sis just dont use a ref so you cant copy it and then the blankest mind comes. not a single thought in this brain. just. nothing. and ill prolly end up with basic 3/4 flying head and call it a day. i dont know what should i do with this since my brain is always rather empty and art is making it more visible and humiliating
