That was really satisfying to watch 😅 the fcx 10 is having an easier time since it's just floating over being bone stock and the trx4 being heavily modded.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍 Yeah the TRX4 is much heavier than the FCX10, so it does tend to sink in the mud more. My TRX4 is my go to mud truck, so the FCX10 did well to keep up so easily. 👍
Yeah my TRX4 is very loud, it's the drive train making all the noise. The FCX10 is nice and new so lovely and quiet still. The FCX18's are quite loud in 1st due to the gearing, much quieter in 2nd generally. 👍
Just a tip on mudrunning... Try not to let the tyres slip too much. Try to match your wheel speed with forward momentum and you will find a sweet spot. Slowly rolling will make mud tyres self clean and it will get you farther and faster than spinning the grip away. Nice video, I'm looking at a Trx4 F150 Hightrail at the moment👍
Great video. My son has had the trx4 and is about to get another. I want to get something for trails and some crawling. So trying to figure out a good rig. Such a difficult task. Traxxas is goodish in my opinion, depends on the rig I suppose we have seen good and bad. I love my Arrma but they don’t do trail/ crawlers unfortunately. So looking for a right direction.
Thanks very much 👍 You can't go wrong with a TRX4 imo, great rigs. Depends what you're looking for really and how capable you want it to be. My favourite rigs right now in order are... 1. TRX4 Defender 2. FMS FJ40 3. RC4WD 1982 Toyota Pickup 4. FMS FCX10 Chevy K5 Got lots of reviews on my channel in my Reviews playlist if you need some help deciding. 👍
Hiya, Met you today at Southern Scale Trail, you made my son Joshua's day by giving him a try on the FCX10 ! Just wanted to say Thanks once again. See you in September !
No problem at all, glad he enjoyed using it and it made his day. Was great chatting to you all and enjoyed our run in the woods. Hope you enjoyed running my TRX4 Defender too. See you in September. 👍😎
🤣 Think you might be right. Looks like the front right is! Changed them now anyway for something else! That's what happens when you work on your rig late at night! 🤣🤦
I needed to see this video as I always build my Trx-4 into heavyweights.. maybe with my new Trx-6 AMG g63 I will go piece by piece starting with all metal servo and mount/Chassis brace and brass link mounts.
Yeah weight isn't your friend in the mud. My TRX4 is a compromise as I use it everywhere. My TRX6 definitely struggles way more in the mud due to its extra weight. 👍
@@DoURC thank you. I thought about it all day and decided I don't really go mudding so I am going heavy weight with the Trx-6💪😁 . -Metal axles, brass portals/link mounts, Stainless steel 5mm links all around along with custom suspension mods, 120mm shocks and 2.2 wheels/tires the truck will be a far more capable machine for where I drive here in WNC.
What an awesomely muddy mess! Good comparison, the TRX4 is a heavier truck overall it seems. It's going to sink deeper. I'm quite impressed by both of these models. Cheers!
I see you have the traxxas winch. Looking to put a winch on my redcat gen7 do you recommend one? I've tired a cheap winch and a servo winch both went out on me.
I really like the Traxxas winch. It's got plenty of power and can take a beating. I power it off the receiver instead of the ESC and I found it functions better. Got a full review of it in my Reviews playlist. 👍
I've been hooked on your channel ever since I found it. I'm big into rc tanks as I have three with all the metal bells and whistles 1/16 scale tanks. I'll take them off road and into water but never mud like that, they'll just sink lol. So I've been wanting a mud running rig like the ones in this video. I've never had one so it would be my first one and first experience since I only recently got into RCs. My question if you have the time to answer is, what would be a good first time rig ( preferably around a 1/10 scale) for someone like me and what did you do as far as water proofing them (if you did that at all). Also you got another subscriber from the good ole state of Texas lol.
Thanks very much and hello from the UK. 👍😁 Mudding is great fun, but it does tend to break stuff. If you're going to be hard on it, it's worth paying a bit more money for a decent rig imo, or you'll be forever fixing it. You really can't go wrong with a Traxxas TRX4 in my opinion. They're tough as nails and there's loads of upgrades. Really you want to keep it light so it doesn't sink. Upgrading to a sealed brushless motor is definitely recommend, as mudding kills brushed motors. The TRX4 is waterproof out the box, so you shouldn't have any issues at all. The main things to bear in mind with mudding is it destroys your bearings fast. Cleaning it well afterwards and drying it is very important imo. I have a how I clean my RC's video on my channel, I'd recommend watching that. Also if you want to see more mud, check out my playlists, I've done loads and love it. 👍😁 Hope that helps, any more questions just ask on a new comment so I don't miss it. 👍😎
@DoURC Thanks so much, I appreciate you answering in detail to my question. I think I'm going to go that route. It looks like so much fun and I think these Lil mud rigs will look good next to my rc tanks.
@@DoURC I was looking up the TRX4 like you suggested and many different models came up. Would you perhaps have a specific starting model? Sorry for bugging you with questions as I'm a novice too this.
@keith91z28 No problem. There's 4 different versions, the TRX4, TRX4 Sport and TRX4 High Trails. The Sport is cheaper and would make a great first rig. The High Trail would give you more ground clearance for mud runs. They're all basically the same chassis just with different features. I would just decide if you want the High Trail or not then choose the body style you like. I went for the TRX4 Defender as I love a Defender. 👍😁 Hope that helps. 👍
Sure looks like the FCX10 is having an easier go of it than the TRX4. Just using my own eyes here. I think I'll buy the FCX over the TRX because of this video. Thanks... And the price point makes it an even easier choice.
Yeah, the TRX4 is much heavier mind, so sinks into the mud more. But then again the TRX4 is massively upgraded vs the FCX10. I do think the FCX10 is excellent value for money and a brilliant rig straight out the box. The FCX10 did better crawling at a recent event I did too, on the rocks and trail. 👍
Nice work mate them boys did great in the mud the defender is heavier so it made sense why it was bogging down more than the fcx10 if your removed all the scale accessories and left it clear it definitely would of done a better job in the real mucky stuff might wanna consider that to match them up better i loved this tho awesome job mate !!
@@DoURC that's alway the best part the fun part hehe nice work regardless mate that was definitely a fun watch and also with your son bet he had a blast hehe 🤟
Great video man! I love what you've done with your TRX4, looks amazing. However, considering you could get at least 3 FCX10s with the money you've spent on that TRX4 I think I would definitely prefer the FCX10. For a $400 RTR that comes with all those features and performs so so well, it's just mind blowing. Also, what's your maintenance routine after that session? Specially with the FCX10 tires that are glued and have foams.
Thanks very much 👍 Yeah the FCX10 is great. I took it to an event recently and let a 10 year old lad use it all afternoon, as his rig broke. It took a beating but took it like a champ, no breakages at all. It was rock crawling, big rolls down inclines etc, bashing over rocks, took it all. Was a good test I thought! 🤣👍 I generally mud run so much when it's muddy season that I just clean them and dry them, then maintenance in dry months, which will be a full tear down with new bearings and marine grease. Normally when I upgrade tyres I run non vented so no issues with foams. Wasn't really bothered about the stock FCX10 tyres tbh, as they'll get changed anyway. 👍 I've got a video on my channel on how I clean my RC's 👍

TRX4 seems quite loud for a brushless. The FCX10 is quieter than I expected. My FCX18 is so loud.

@@DoURC We've all done it at least once! Thx for great vid!
I do like the sound of FCX10 makes. Compared to the whiny TRX4, it is more muffled and clearly less noisy. For a few moments, sounds like a real car.
That's just my TRX4 really as it's well used. A newer TRX4 sounds much nicer.
The FCX10 is nice and quiet though. 👍
?? Have you ever heared a real car??
That FCX is mega impressive for a bone stock rig compared to a fully kitted out TRX.....what do you think?
Yeah I really like it. Excellent value for money, tough and very capable out the box. Check out my most recent video of it on my channel. 👍
the fcx10 has brushed motor with open vents, does water entering in not kill the motor?
It will sooner or later, but not straight away. Stock motor is still going strong for me. 👍
I have both of them :)
I modified a bit the TRX4, with loads of brass. Not the Fcx, yet. I wanna see and check :)
Thx for the great idea !!!
Cool, they're both great rigs. 👍
Is the TRX4 heavier? Could be a reason why the stock FCX10 was at least equal in the mud…
Nahhh is just better
Yeah TRX4 is quite a bit heavier. It's got brass portals etc, wheel weights so yeah, sinks more in the mud. 👍
🤣
Wow! Really impressed with the FCX10. I wasn't expecting it to do so well, but it looked great against the trx4.
