In the real world, the way people use their compact SUVs is resolutely road-based. Most such motorists would probably think 'green laning' was keeping at an economical 65mph on the slow lane of a motorway. Honda, more than any other car maker, is a company that lives in the real world, designing its products to suit. Cars like this one, the improved third generation CR-V, continue a design approach based on bettering rivals where it counts.
An easy way to irritate Honda's PR machine has always been to call this car a '4x4', even though all three of its generations, the 1997 MK1, the 2002 MK2 and this 2006 MK3, have all been all-wheel driven. The brand doesn't even like the term 'SUV', though it can hardly avoid that when listing this car's direct rivals as Land Rover's Freelander and Toyota's RAV4. Both were substantially improved following the original introduction of the third generation version of this Honda, so by 2010, this CR-V had to up its game too with a mild facelift and a fresh diesel engine that could be ordered with the auto gearbox that so many buyers wanted. Here's how to track down a decent used example.

I have a 2.2 diesel with a manual gearbox,it has done a 165 thousand miles ,regularly does 40 plus mpg and 50 on the motorway, really enjoy driving it 😊
i am thinking of getting one this year, would you say you could get over 500 miles per full tank
Did you encounter DPF problems?
I’ve had mine now for 11 years, and it’s been absolutely brilliant.. 88k on the clock and no major faults, and very few minor ones. Used and abused (work car) every day and it’s reliability really has Ben second to none.
I have 2,2 cdti. The most reliable car i ever had
Had mine 6 years now and love it.. the end 😊
A very thorough appraisal. Thanks. The CRV is absolutely brilliant as a reliable and multi-purpose vehicle. If I ever change, I'll have another one.
keep mentioning little or no intention of going off road - but they are very decent in snow, mud trails, muddy fields etc.. much better than the Mk4 crv
I had a 2011 ex diesel automatic, it had 115,000 miles on it when I sold it and still looked and drove like new. The only issue I had with it was a leaking power steering pipe. Fabulous car.
"I bought my Honda CR-V 3 restyling 2.2 I-DTEC at a car show in Brussels in 2011. The car is now 13 years old, and aside from minor issues, it has never once broken down or let me down. I always changed the oil every roughly 10,000 km, and other important maintenance was handled at an official Honda garage. The biggest problem occurred after 7-8 years of use: a pipe in the EGR exhaust system cracked at a joint, and exhaust fumes started leaking into the cabin, which I initially didn't notice and it gave me headaches. Replacing this pipe at a Honda garage cost around 400 euros. Besides that, there were issues with the parking sensors; after 8 years, the rear parking sensors failed, and replacing them at the dealership was very expensive, costing about 500 euros. However, I replaced them myself and they have been working ever since. Other than that, there are no major defects, just minor ones. The car is very reliable; it won’t break down in the middle of the road or stop, the rest are just minor issues."
Moreover, my car was manufactured at a factory in England, which is a pity they closed it
Excellent review.
I have a 2010 petrol in silver with the aero pack to give it a bit of individuality, love it and they're rock solid 👍
is 214,000 kilometers too many, some say you can get over 400,000 ks in them
Does it burn a lot of oil ?
My grandma left me a CRv with half a million km on just oil changes and plugs. She was very outgoing untill the local magistrate put a stop to it, she was 95 and the court was full. I drove it another 100 000km wit grandma until her ticker expired and the car came to me.
Cars are very personal sometimes. Take care of it.
Does it burn a lot of oil ?
You are good. Very good in cars sale-ship
These don't die, mine 2.4 has 670 000km and it's been supercharged since 240 000km..will drive it till engine dies or wheels falls apart
Serious? I was thinking of buying one off a guy I know but it has 340,000km on it,that was putting me off getting it!
How does one open the front sunroof of the 2009 CR-V.. Is there any way of doing it. I am only able to open the back sunroof and not the front one.
Watching reviews on circs. This review is so above every other as is this channel. I cant understand why you don’t attract the views 55000 views 400 like lazy B’s
Great car
It's around $5000-6000 now in Malaysia
Damn gud value
landrover freelander or Honda crv ? HONDA without hesitation.
Unless it is Freelander 2 i6 3,2. Then your only worry would be that is slightly higher on fuel...
how to get the all white bumpers and side plastics instead of the black ugly plastics?
I wanna know to 😂 didnt find it yet.. pls let me know if u know where to buy
Anyone buying a Gen 3 onwards petrol CRV, should be aware that the electric power steering system is unreliable, and that a Honda garage will charge around £3,000 just to replace the steering rack.
does this affect the diesel ? I am thinking of getting one . thanks
2007 2.4 L ❤
I've got a 2010 crv 2.0 ivtech... never gelled with it - mpg is usually 26, only ever seen low 30's on a long run, the interior is full of horrible scratchy plastic and on mine the ride is extremely crashy and unpleasant over rougher Road surfaces
@Starkey Morgan he bought it in 2020
Horribly scratchy plastic is tough and hard wearing.
I completely agree. And if your CRV goes wrong, the cost of genuine Honda parts is extortionate, eg a new EPS steering rack fitted is almost £3,000!
What is the point of reposting a video made 13 years ago?
For people who are considering buying one
@@petepython01exactly and it was very helpful!
Rotten underneath tho
Yep! This is the problem. I'm a huge fan of Japanese cars and their engines can be bombproof but after 10 years they become rot boxes.
@@johntate5050 I have to agree especially in countries who have winter snows. But not in tropical countries like in south east Asia.
Costs less than £100 to get it sealed.
@@MuhammadAli-hr1bj where can you get £100 sealed? I have been quoted £800
