  • A review of a new waterproof poncho from Lidl
    Price - €12.99 (Ireland)
I spotted this recently and just had to give it try.
Doubles as an emergency/backup tarp for makeshift shelters.
Also useful as a water collection method.
I should note (at the time of making this video) I'm in no way sponsored by, or affiliated with LIdl.
    Thanks for watching.

Was at RIAT air show last weekend and took my trusty Lidls poncho...the things bullet proof! People were getting trashed by the rain storms that came in, but not me...oh nooooo😎

Definitely a light weight item for emergency use that can be easily carried. As you stated, many different uses. Better than nothing at all and budget friendly. Thank you for the review!

Great to find another Irish outdoorsman. Subscribed.
Does a grand job. I went up Mweelrea in pissing rain in it. Yeah you're right, rain trousers still needed. I am a convert of ponchos though for Ireland. Thing is, you can sweat even in goretex with pit-zips so a cheap poncho has that advantage of letting air in. Covers your rucksack too. Wind is your enemy though, so more buttons down the side would be good. My father had a canvass one that would fasten down the side and he said you could take off like a kite in the wind. Will keep the poncho experiment up. The most expensive ones I see online are 100 quid. Most expensive jackets are multiples of that. (I'm not suggesting completely replacing one for the other).
Sorry for a long comment. But I'll leave you with what my friend said about the lidl poncho: "it was made by Vietnamese thalidomide children inside an oven for 2 grains of rice an hour".
Quick note for anyone who was arsed reading my shite: there are some things to invest in, and some things that a lidl job does grand for.

Yes absolutely correct about the wind and the poncho, not exactly a match made in heaven I would agree.
I think the ideal combo is a half decent coat and an inexpensive poncho, that depends on having a pack of some kind to carry it in of course.
This poncho served me very well on one particular occasion, unloading my kayak from the car roof rack, was absolutely teaming down, but I stayed dry and more sweat free!
No need to apologize about a long comment, I enjoy reading them.
Thanks for joining, thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment my friend 🌲🇮🇪🌲

Handy I got one , for 10€ it’s for nothing. I’ll use it as a footprint for my Helm 2 . Great review

Thanks dude. Ye for the price ya can't really go wrong at all. Lightweight and packs down pretty small too. Lidl really does have some surprisingly good camping gear from time to time. 🌲😊🌲

Ponchos are what I use better than a waterproof jacket that you sweat in loads

I bought two a couple of years ago and have slept under one a few times, sleeping bag in a lightweight bivvy bag. I’ve added more poppers to the side, and I have a collapsible long aluminium pole which forms a hoop. To stop rain coming through the hood, I just tighten up the drawstrings, twist the hood up, fold it in two and tie it up.
This video is the first time I tried it on the moors where I live, and before I added more poppers.

      Good info about the hood.
Definitely an item worthy of picking up a second of for sure, keeps water out very effectively, impossible to go wrong for the price!
      Thanks for watching my friend.
Also that's a good video of it in action!
