I remember back in like 2000 I was working for a tour bus company doing their in house service invoicing and billing...there was one day when a truck dropped off a set of four new portable column lifts that could pick up a motorcoach, that was a FUN day! The mechanic and I spent the better part of the day reading the manual and whatnot...then culminating with the successful lifting of a Prevost H3-45 highway coach (45 foot long bus with a tag axle). Felt odd seeing it in the air but damn that made the mechanic's life so much easier...I got to set the system up quite often for him....the fact that I could roll them TO the coach and lift it was groundbreaking!
My truck was a used bush whacker truck in northern ontario. Since I've owned it my uncle told me to use the Power Service summer and winter additives every fill up. Figured he knows what he's talking about since his big rigs all use it and he never has fuel problems. Very nice tear down as always😎
Yeah that resting in the fuel tank and delaminating has been a well-known problem for Ford, The newer tanks have been updated It still doesn't completely stop it
Have a 17' F550 as well. Replaced the fuel pressure/temp sensor. It helped a good bit with the erratic fuel pressure. Crazy ting is the low fuel pressure alarm doesn't come on all the time. It seems to take a while for it to come on. Of course I am going to the next step of replacing the fuel pump conditioner. It is starting to get noisy now. The last 2 times that replaced the fuel filters there was little to no rust or any debris in the bottom. Did see water of course both times. Just seems to be intermittent issue. Do see fuel pressure being maintained over 63-65 PSI all the time. Even when I get the low pressure warning on the dash. Just am picking your brain on potential issues that I might be missing. Greatly appreciate the help. Truck is starting to be a lucifer. UHHHH!!! LOL
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yeah exactly what I was thinking as well. Just weird how it maintains that and still has the low fuel pressure warning come up. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod That is the other thing I was considering as a cause. I know the pump is starting to make some noise and that could be the leading factor of volume issue. Even though pressure is good. That is the bear in the room with the pump showing signs of potential issues. Can have pressure. But, volume of the pump can be dying with the pump. Like you mentioned. I wanted to spit ball off you and see what I might not being seeing. I am going to install a new pump for now and then see if this makes it calm down and go away. Appreciate your time of commenting back. Sometimes asking for a second opinion helps to keep from chasing down a rabbit hole!! LOLOl
Well, So far the replacement of the lift pump has kept the low fuel pressure codes away. I might have other potential issues with the regen system. Had to let the customer have the truck back for working it. Just seems to be slow to do a regen until it gets up to 50-60% filter full before it wants to start doing a regen. Other then that it runs good again. Hoping the regen system works itself out. Otherwise it will be back for more fun. The manual regen process always completed itself with no issues and temps and values looked good thru the manual regen. Thanks again for the responses back. Do appreciate the help. On to the next one!!! LOL
Another high quality repair Mr. ARod sir! Sorry I didn't watch this baby sooner...... Been a busy last few days mane! OH! I like the new super fresh tunes in the background, also wore my new PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod shift the other day. Looked on point fosho!
Lovin’ the “Ford baby-making music” in the background. Great vid. Hey, what fuel additives should I use on my ‘14 F-250? I’ve never added anything to the fuel before... something for summer and winter or one-stop-shop additive?
I have an 01 550 with 7tree and the tanks in the cab chassis had issues with delamination. I see Ford still hasn't figured it out...I put a prepump filter in to catch anything if the tank goes south.
Another great video, I always top the tank off every night to prevent condensation and watching this video , looks like I'm doing the right thing , I rarely see water in the filters when I change them too , have a great weekend
My 04. 550 had the coating come off inside the tank. Replaced it with a plastic tank. The fuel filler . I have had several of them rust through. And the caps don’t seal that good
Hey Arod ! How are you bro ? I’ve worked on lots of 7.3 and 6.0 but not much 6.7. I have a customer with a 6.7 setting up p0087 . Owner always use genuine parts and gets maintenance on point . What’s your fist approach to this code ? Thanks
When I worked in New Mexico I had a little bucket truck similar to that. I think it was a 16 F550 as well. I loved that truck most bad ass little bucket truck ever. Good stuff as always Arod. Hasn't Ford has issues with steel fuel tanks even since the 7.3 days? They do know aluminum exists right?
First time I saw a lift system like this was on Jay Leno’s Garage. Are the new tanks coated or plastic now? I’ve always added Howe’s to the fuel. Curious what the frame filter looked like from the rust.
Very video ARod. Is adding Fords additive once a month a good thing or should I do more often. Does the code PO170 fuel trim bank 1 play any part like what u show in this video. Hope I'm not being a pain in the ass this superduty is my baby next to my wife but don't tell her that. Thanks ARod
WOW. That lift is the cat's ass. There is no way my dealership would ever invest in a lift like that for our shop. I see Ford is still using metal after axle tanks after all these years, despite the fact that they've been a known problem. I know there are aftermarket plastic aftermarket tanks for these trucks albeit at an astronomical price, but probably well worth the investment to avoid a repeat failure. BTW, that style of fuel conditioning module is exclusive to 2016 model years only with the metal bracket that needs to be loosened to service the primary fuel filter. 2011 to 2015 model years are all the same. And the 2017 and newer? Well you know they went with the in-tank pump and filter. I'm pretty sure that OEM metal is not cheap either if I recall correctly.
does the 450 pickup have a metal tank? Same thing on my 2015. Frame-mounted pump screaming. Replaced last week to the day. Today low fuel warning. Truck died. P008A code. Had it towed home. Started right up after. Cleared code. Nothing wrong on test drive after clearing codes. The new pump is not making any screaming noises. ???Any particular PIDs to watch on Forscan?
i was expecting to see the foil seals from fuel treatment bottle in the tank. Another thing on the second gen with the flat filter at the tank. Had one come in with the same code as well as p0087. Another shop threw everything at it except the fcm housing. Pump would sound like a failed pump or restricted filters. Something with the check valve. FYI
Hey ARod, is there newer style bowls for the fuel filter? I have a 2016 F-250 and ordered a new one and it is shorter than the original and that little bracket the supports it on the bottom no longer touches it and was told it is the new style Ford went to but on your video the brand new pumps have the larger bowls. I have the Banks I dash and I’m trying to monitor fuel pressures and a bunch of other data but can’t seem to find factory specs online. Just changed the fuel filters and it took a long time for the air to bleed out. Changed bottom then the top and bled the system by turning the key probably 20+times. I let it idol for 20 minutes then drove it for 10 miles. S

I too use the Power Service stuff in all my diesel engines. Never a problem in over 15 years.
I’ve always used a air hammer and a flat bit to remove the senders. That’s the perks of working at a dealership.
