@@EV-olution Great! one thing i was wondering about was apartment or condo owners who might not be able to charge at home, any tips for them who want to own an EV? I was thinking of keeping an e-scooter in the trunk, also looking forward to how the Quebec winters will affect the range. Thanks!
@@rickdeckard9810 The question about apartments or condos is a big one. There are many solutions to this and the first would be to discuss with the owner if you can have a charger installed. Since you can always remove the charger in case you move, it is the best solution. If you can't have one installed then you need to consider how many kilometers you drive to and from work every day. If only 30 or 40km, then you would only need to charge once per week. You could use a level 3 charger when you are in a hurry, or let the car charge over night at an L2 charger nearby. As for winter, time will tell since I got mine on May 6th.
Hi! Thanx for your video's. Maybe you have had this question before.. but i am trying to figure out if i can get the UVO or Kia connect on my E-niro of 2019. i think i got one of the earlier models that did not have it by default, and now i am searching for a way to get it on there. i'd like to hear from you!

Merci! Lots of things coming including a video of the 500 electric car caravan that crossed the new Samuel-de-Champlain bridge in Montréal, for its inauguration, at 5am yesterday, June 24th.
I am in Canada and my Niro EV came with 5 years of Kia Connect services. I sold the car at the 3 year mark when I got my EV6, which also comes with long term Kia Connect services. I don't know what the monthly cost will be, but I can say that with the speed of the app (or lack thereof) I would be hard pressed to pay for the service even though I use it on a daily basis. It would have to be dirt cheap for me to consider paying for it because of the slow response time it has.
Nice video, thanks. One Q... I would normally set my car to charge from 00h30 to 04h00 every day as its much cheaper with my electricity provider... but sometimes I want to do a top up manually, spontaneously, so can I just plug it in and then go to the app and tell it to charge and over-ride the timer settings this one time? I had this on my Nissan Leaf and it's a single button next to the steering wheel which makes it very easy to activate, no need to mess about with starting the car and going into menus or changing the daily timer for "spontaneous top ups". Any insight on that one?
Thank you very much, this is a pretty old video so I am glad it is still of use 😎 You can force the car to start charging in the app, in the Charge menu. It was fixed in the EV6 where there is a physical override button beside the charge port.
The VESS (pedestrian warning sound) is actually pretty cool and not very loud. It sounds a bit like the Light Cycles from the Tron movie. I like it. Be patient, this is a great car and worth waiting for.

Well this very great Video is a game changer assuming UVO is on all Niro ev aka e-niro installed. Strangest thing that Kia does not advertise this feature at all. So many people including me would not consider buying this car because of this feature missing. One question: Can you activate the climate control via app without having the car plugged to power. Allegedly not even scheduled climate control on the car is possible without having the car plugged to power? Followup question is it possible to precondition the batteries (heating/cooling) in any way before start driving? Again great Videos totally worth subscribing. Keep them coming!
Thanks for the compliments. I am still learning how to make these so it's nice to know they are appreciated. As for your questions: - You can activate climate remotely even if not plugged in. So when you bought the car, you weren't told about the UVO feature, it was just there? Did you find out at delivery time or later? I've ordered a car for delivery in September, and the salesman has explicitly told me there is no app support (northern Europe).
I knew that the Niro EV came with UVO, but there was a question as to if it would be functional in Canada. Before delivery I found out it was available, but it was not active in my car because the IMEI and SIM were not in the Kia Canada UVO servers since my car had just arrived in Canada. Once I contacted Kia it worked. The service is region specific so call Kia in your country to find out. My Kia dealer was not sure.
The e-Niro in Europe (at least the 2019 model) can connect with "Kia connected services" which offers similar functionality but at a charge (there is a subscription fee). Maybe the 2020 model will have UVO, the 2019 e-Soul has it.
It was directed to Erik Övelius as he said his car was gonna be delivered in september. I also live in northen europe and it is still not confirmed if the newer E-Niro/Niro EV will have this feature or not.
Do you know if earlier versions of the Niro EV can be software upgraded to have the UVO function? I followed the instructions in the video in my e-Niro but there was no UVO menu. It is European and late 2018 model.
The problem is not a question of earlier or later versions, but more of a fact that your country has to have the Kia UVO servers that support the functionality and that requires your VIN to be in the Kia servers for it to work. If UVO is not offered in your country then I don't think there is anything that can be done. If you want 100% confirmation then I would suggest calling Kia in your country to find out if UVO is offered. Sorry I can't help more than that.
I enjoy your videos. It is good information without a lot of unnecessary time killing. And you remind me so much of my first college roommate. He was a little nerdy, he went into the newspaper industry, now online newspaper. Good guy. I think I have finally decided between this car and the Tesla Model 3. I'm going to lease this car for three years and then see what's on the market then. My question is, is the UVO service free with ownership? Or does it cost $10 a month like Tesla? I'm really looking forward to my RED Niro EV.
In Canada the Niro EV comes with 5 years of full UVO Intelligence included. In the US I think it is 3 years, but don't quote me on that 🙂 The Niro is an excellent choice and I was like you, deciding between the Model 3 and Niro EV, but I wanted a hatchback, a softer ride, a higher seating position, and a solid servicing network incase the car needed service. There is also the fact that Kia has incredible fit and finish of their cars, far superior to Tesla. To me Tesla wins on technology, sex appeal and performance, but the Kia wins on overall product ownership experience.
The UVO intelligence connectivity is included in Canada for the first 5 years of ownership. I am not sure what the monthly cost will be after and I am not sure how many years are included in the US.
@@EV-olution Thank you for the quick response. Digging a little deeper on the the Kia USA Web Site. I'm looking at getting a used 2019 kia niro ev. How do you know that the previous owner is no longer connected to the car and have the ability to track/mess with the car?
If I were you I would contact Kia in your country and ask them to make sure that there are no connected accounts. Your choice of the 2019 is excellent, you will save some money and get a fantastic car.
Have you found that your "UVO experience" has changed much in the time since you made this video? I'm curious how hard KIA are working to improve UVO over time. There is no technical reason for commands to take so long to execute if the phone and car are on a high speed LTE network, and the interface shown here leaves a little bit to be desired :) Tesla owners are spoiled with their app, and unfortunately for their competitors, that is the benchmark we all compare against! Of course KIA's effort is impressive in absolute terms, but I hope they add to it. Curious that your app was published by KIA Canada - I would have expected a single global effort. We ordered our e-Niro after a test drive on Friday! Prompted by your video channel - thanks again. Now for the agonising month-long wait!
Hi Chris, thanks for the question. UVO has improved quite a bit since making the video. The new version of the app, in car nav update, and I am guessing servers, have made the overall reaction to sending commands faster. Instead of taking up to 30 seconds to activate the AC or heat, now it is about 10 seconds overall (app displays command accepted), but the actual command is received by the car in about 7 seconds. This makes me happy as you are correct, Telsa is the benchmark and their functionality is awesome. Congratulations on your purchase! I am glad I could infect another person with the "e-Niro virus" 😉🙂
Hi. Kia VINs are very hard to get information from. The only thing I know is that it was built in 2019, but I don't have the exact month and day. I can tell you that my car arrived at my dealer in mid-april 2019 and considering that it arrived in BC, it would take a few days to arrive by train (cross country to Québec), I can guess that it was built in February or March 2019 since it takes about 1 month to arrive by ship from Korea.
Thanks for the video, i'm actually thinking to buy an E-Niro, i'm thinking to let go my diesel car and use an Electric, first of all for enviorment, second is for money, the charger around me cost like nothing, so what do you think about the idea of having an electric car, does it save you some money or like it is almost the same as fossil cars? Thanks in advance for your videos.
I am glad my videos can help and thank you for watching 😎. Buying an electric car has been proven to cost far less over the time you own the vehicle, so yes, an EV will save you money (and the environment) when compared to an equivalent ICE car. Of course if you car has no monthly payment then you can't exactly make the cost comparison, but unlike and ICE car an EV has no real maintenance to be done and the cost to power it is very low compared to fuel. The important thing for EV maintenance is to have the brakes serviced once per year to ensure they stay in good condition since EVs don't really use the brakes that much; they use regeneration to slow down. Other things that cost money on an EV are wear items, but those are the same on all cars: tires and wipers. As for my thoughts on owning an electric car... I have wanted one since 2012 and when the Niro EV was coming out in 2019 I knew it was the one that fit my needs so I bought it without ever driving it and I never even saw one until mine arrived at my dealership. I loved it so much that I started my RUclips channel 1 month after getting my Niro 😎. I hope this answers your questions and thanks again.
@@EV-olution Thanks for your kindness and fast answer, 1 thing I'm wondering on as well, on 22kw charger, I heated that Niro takes on 11kw, is that right, even if it is empty I mean around it, and then the ccs charger support to 50kw If I'm not mistaken? 😊
In Europe the e-Niro can charge on an L2 (home) charger at up to 11kW with 3-phase electricity. Then when using a DC Fast Charger (DCFC) it can charge at speeds up to 77kW as long as the DCFC puts out the power required. So on a 150kW DCFC, and depending on the level of charge of the battery, temperature, etc, you will see up to 77kW.
I agree that the Kia UVO Intelligence is very slow. I was expecting it to be faster and at first was a but frustrated, but I have simply adjusted my timing for use. In other words, if I want to start the climate control to warm up/cool down the car, I start it a few minutes earlier. I gave up on using the unlock/lock door feature since it is so slow, but I do like the schedules and car status information. Essentially it is a nice trick, but I would not pay for it.
Thanks again for the ‘’infotaining’’ videos👍🏻(👍🏻)The uvo system is often (very) unavailable on my wife’s niro. We get ‘’server’’ unavailable a lot and can’t use it. Does anybody else has this experience or it’s a case of poltergeist/bad karma (car,ma??) If anyone knows a fix or how to get Kia to respond to this we would be very interested. Thanks!
Thank you very much! The server unavailable is a known issue and unfortunately there isn't anything you can do on your side of things. The problem is server side and also the reason the app response time is so slow.
The biggest hurdle in the battle is that UVO is a free service at this time and people are willing to allow for some issues. When it becomes a paid service then the story will change.
The service might be sort of ‘’free’’ but it’s part of the not so free vehicle, i wrote to Kia and only received a case number that i can’t update , their phone number appears and i’m ‘’invited’’ to call when i try to update it. The UVO was one of the elements that helped my wife decide on the niro.......@@EV-olution
Sorry for the delay in replying, the comments list gets pretty long sometimes and I can miss some. Do you have an online account with Kia, so that when you login you can see your ticket and reply to it? I am just taking a wild guess here because I have not seen what you are describing.
Kia has had this for quite some time, it's just that there were no videos about UVO for the EV since the EV was a new 2019 model. That and there are features that apply only to EVs.
UVO does not always work. UVO in the USA runs on Verizon wireless. Since Verizon has no service where I live, UVO doesn’t work. Kia customer service told me I should have known that Verizon provides their service. My Chevy, Dodge, Honda and Ford all work great, but not this POS UVO service.
EV-olution I completely agree. We do love the car and have found ways to make it work for us. The real trick for the EV is finding free level 3 chargers and level 2 chargers (not all level 2 chargers are the same.). There is a level 2 near me that is free at 2.5 and a free level 3 at 75.
Hi, what production date your EV has and do you have pre heating Battery management system? Thx
@@EV-olution Thanks again Andre for your awesome answers and information, all the good luck with the channel! Subscribed for sure! ☺
@@fsarakbi thank you very much, it means a lot 😎
Does the app work in the US for 2019 models?
If you go into the touchscreen of your car and see UVO then you should be able to use the feature.
I am frustrated with Microsoft's UVO incredibly slow response time to do most things and even then, it frequently fails.
Good morning! This is not acceptable, Kia is aware but is taking no actions?? Users should unite...@@EV-olution
Much better than Renault
So, something that VW, Audi, Mercedes, BMW already have since least 2014 ... still much to catch up for Kia.
Kia has had this for quite some time, it's just that there were no videos about UVO for the EV since the EV was a new 2019 model. That and there are features that apply only to EVs.
Yeah, Kia only seem to be way ahead of all of those companies in silly little things.....like a far superior battery range, how silly.
That is ridiculous! If I were in your shoes I would be in touch with consumer protection. That makes no sense at all.
EV-olution
I completely agree. We do love the car and have found ways to make it work for us.
The real trick for the EV is finding free level 3 chargers and level 2 chargers (not all level 2 chargers are the same.). There is a level 2 near me that is free at 2.5 and a free level 3 at 75.
Hey, keep up your videos. I watched them before purchasing the Niro EV.
@@runman1271 Thank you very much. I need to make another video soon, it has been since Feb 7th and I am overdue. Life comes first though. Stay tuned, I will will make something soon. I have to, I bought a new camera for my channel 😉
